The Mercury specific grille and A/C make this a clear winner in the Pinto comparison!

Same situation with the Maverick. The Ford isn't a bad looking car, but the Comet really steps it up. You could even get fake wood grain on the interior. 💪

I owned a 1977 with the same stripes. Which I installed a 302 V8. Ran 11 seconds in the quarter mile.

Both Mercury Bobcat and Ford Pinto are the nemesis to the Chevrolet Vega Monza and Pontiac Astre and Sunbird including Oldsmobile Starfire Firenza and Buick Skyhawk of the GM H bodies RWD sub compact models

Great car! Thank you for pointing out the fallacy of the unsafe claims for these cars!

It's important to spread the word. Better late than never . . . .

Mercury had a few unloved autos over a couple models, topaz, lynx, sable , I recently found and have the small twin version of the baby ltd, the door wedge marquis, I will post a video after all the mechanical is back in order.

Hallelujah! Those Pinto jokes have become as old as the cars themselves. So played out that nobody cares. We old car lovers love 'em for what they are now - old cars. I'm sure someone out there collects Pintos now like most people collected Model T's in the 1940s, 1950s - or whatever decade.

No rust? I don’t agree with that statement.

My wife had a 1974 Mustang 2 with the same German built V-6 2.8L engine, it was a piece of garbage. Everything is metric and they suffered from cam shaft breakage due to a direct gear engagement with the crank shaft. The fix for this was to take the crank shaft gear and install a nylon toothed ring on the iron center. This ring would break without warning and fall in the oil pan as the pan extended about an inch beyond the block. Replacing this part is a major undertaking, you have to remove the alternator, AC compressor, fan and fan shroud and about fifteen front cover bolts in deep wells. Gaskets for the front cover were not available, you had to buy the front cover to get a gasket or attempt to cut one, this thing is so irregular in shape it isn't funny. The water pump exploded at 35,000 miles leaving only the mounting bolts in the block and the timing gear failed at 40, 000 miles falling in the oil pan. We got only 42,000 miles out of the car when I got rid of it. I hope you don't have these same issues, it is a nice looking car though.
