What type of nails did he use and what items to secure the top part of the mirror?
Thanks. I have a big 80” x 48” mirror I just hung using the 72” j-mold from HD like you did in the video. I didn’t buy 2 of them and just centered it and drilled straight into 5 studs.
Nice 👍
What screws did you use because the supplied ones don’t seem strong enough
@@willlopez7875 I'm assuming you mean for the J channel, I used 1.5" wood screws into the studs
@@PlatoonGarage yep, sorry didn’t specify. The holes on my J channels aren’t lining up. Had to get wall anchors. Starting again tomorrow, hopefully one goes into a stud at least. Lol
How heavy was that mirror? I am currently trying to mount a single mirror with those dimensions, and it is a beast
You had the Canes playing in the background so I'm definitely liking the video!
I also have 3 3x5 mirrors and had only the small clips you used on top and came to conclusion there has to be a better way and voila found your video. Way to be there for me lol
Glad I could be there for you 😂
Loving this look! Would have truly appreciated such know-how when doing this at our French house. Definitely take this on if & when we take on such a project again.
It really adds the feel of extra space 🙂
Thank you for this video! Was wondering how to do this in the future !👍👍👍
👍
Thanks man, just what I was looking for.
2:45, literally went looking for a video of someone hanging these mirrors because of this issue - so weird!
Definitely a conspiracy between the mirror and J channel manufacturers to anger consumers
Very clean. Great job. I can't wait to start on mine. House being built. 1 more month.
thanks for making this video, it helps me a lot💪
You're welcome
Thx!!! Have same mirror sizes. This helped a lot!!
At the top, when you used the plastic pieces it came with, did you use any drywall anchors? Did you screw them into the studs, or what? Just a screw straight into drywall?
Just a screw straight into drywall. All of the load is being taken by the J channel, this just gives some added stability
Awesome, ty.
Working on setting my garage now.
My vote is install them to be centered with the exercise area, not the walls/soffits themselves. But also, I probably would've installed them long side down in a 2 wide, 3 high configuration (if it's a 9ft+ ceiling like what it appears to be). That way you'd make the most of the space on the wall and get lots of mirror area for when you're using the gym. Of course, that would double the cost of mirrors, but I think it would be worth it in the end.
Great video though! I've been following along the whole series and have enjoyed all of it!
not a bad suggestion. I'll have to see what it looks like when I get the rack delivered and set up. the rack will be going dead center of the mirrors as they are. If it doesn't work - I might pull the mirrors down and reconfigure
Hey Man
I have exactly what U have in this video.
The thing is my walls have steel studs as my gym is in my storage building.
My Question is can I put the 3 mirrors and
J channel up without screwing into the studs???
Will the drywall hold the mirrors and J channel if I just screw into the drywall with the plastic drywall hook screws?????
Thnkx for your help!!!!
These mirrors are pretty heavy. I suppose you could use drywall anchors (and a lot of them) and see if it holds.
Why not just drill into the metal studs and anchor with metal screws?
Awesome video! What is the paint color for the light gray?
Both are Sherwin Williams colors. Dark gray is called web gray. Light gray is called gray screen 👍
nice video, they don't sell these in Canada so I'm planning a drive over the border to grab some of these lol
@@shellderp that's probably what I would do too
Nice video, what J Channel and what did you use at the tops of mirrors to hold it please?
Thanks for watching. No J channel at the top, just the clear mirror clips that came with the mirrors
Very helpful video, thank you! I'm getting ready to convert an old playroom into a gym and so this is great. Do you know what paint color is on the walls? I like it!
Web gray and gray screen both are from Sherwin Williams
Hi, I am looking to install the same set up.
I was curious about the 12” J channel piece you used. Since the studs are 16” apart, did you use anchors for the 12” piece? Would you have done that differently after the install? Thanks
@@jasonslattery4557 installed mirrors are doing perfect over 3 years later
I'm getting ready to install a whole wall of mirrors in my loft, I took the metal frames off of sliding mirror doors and they are giant and weak 😅 this helps a lot. I believe I will have to "stick" my mirrors to some kind of MDF of chipboard to make them less weak?
Also, I don't have wood beams, I have metal Instead.. I'm wondering how to go about this 😅 would you have any recommendations? Thanks a lot for that video!
(Sorry, English isn't my first language)
sounds like a very different installation than my mirrors, not sure i have any advice to offer you
Can you tell me what paint colors you used on your walls? I’m looking for a similar color pattern and yours look great.
Web gray and gray screen both are from Sherwin Williams
Would love to see the finished gym whenever you have a chance!

Great video! what screws did you use for the J channels?
I just used regular old wood screws 1.5"
Thanks!!
Very helpful, thanks!
What size screws did you use? The ones that came with my J-Mold seem small and weak.
1.5" wood screws
I bought the j mounts but they don’t come with screws. What size screws did you get to make it work? The screw holes are extremely small. Please help!
And how far off the ground did you start the mirror base
1.5" wood screws will do the job. Measure your ceiling height and do the calculations to get the mirror centered on your wall, or you can mount them higher or lower based on your preference 👍
How many J molds did you use for the 3 mirrors total?
Are these just glass mirrors or do you recommend tempered glass?
I think these are just regular glass
Nice!!! 🙌🏽🔥
Thanks
I like it all except using the clips (ugly), at the top. Does anyone know of a top rail type bracket?
Super helpful video! When you drilled through the smaller holes on the J channel, what size drill bit did you use? And was it a special drill bit?
Just a normal drill bit, I picked a size that was just slightly smaller than the screw I was using
@@PlatoonGarage got it, thanks!
@@SushiLeader 👍
@@PlatoonGaragehow long were your wood screws?
@@seegee_01 1.5"
Thanks for the video! I just purchased the same mirrors - 2 instead of 3 - and the same type of J channel. I followed the exact same process, but there is a slight gap in between the mirrors once I have them sitting in the J channel. The gap is not even; the mirrors are flush at the top and the gap gets larger towards the bottom of the mirrors. Any ideas on the cause?
Hmm, everything straight on the installation?
Maybe the mirror glass was cut crooked and they don't align from top to bottom. Mine fit perfect even now over 6 months later
@@PlatoonGarage maybe remove the J Track and instead level up mirrors using just those plastic clips they sell..you likely will see this a lot less than a gappy installation with a J track..just an idea.
Did you need wall anchors for the screws in the jbar and top mirror clips?
No wall anchors needed. The screws in the j bar go into the stud and the top clips are not load bearing 👍
What color is the darker wall? Looks great
Web gray from Sherwin Williams
Thanks for the video. I think ingot the same J channel from home depot with the center rib at the bottom of the channel. I also purchased 2 of the 3' x 5' mirrors to be placed side by side on the 72' j channel. My question is do the mirrors sit tilted back against the wall or are they flush? Also i see you didnt use any epoxy or glue on the back of the mirror, do they wobble as a result? Thank you
The mirrors sit ever so slightly tilted back against the wall, we're talking like 1/8" so very small amount. No epoxy needed, if I ever take them down there's no need to scrape glue/epoxy off the walls.
If you mount everything correctly (and assuming your wall is straight) there is no wobble at all. 👍
@Mitesh Did this setup work for you? The 72" J channel says it's it can only support 50LBS. 2 3' x 5' mirrors weigh in at 62LBS. All comes from Glacier Bay, you would think they'd make sizes and weights compatible.
Thank you sir!
Nice video. What is holding the top of the mirror? Also assuming the j bracket was purchased separately? Thanks!
J brackets purchased separately yes. The mirrors came with small clear clips to hold the top firmly
Novice here, Does the J mold need to be drilled into studs?
You drill it wherever a stud is behind it so the screw goes into wood
Got it! Thanks!
Is it difficult to line up the holes of the J mold with the studs?
The holes don't need to align perfectly. Just put a new hole in the j mold where a stud is and it will be fine
@@PlatoonGaragewhat tool did you use to put a new hole on the J channel? Can I just drill it through with the screw?
@@tingl8482 correct, just a self tapping screw
Did you go into the studs with the clips at the top of the mirror? Also how many inches from each edge for those clips
clips at the top did not go into the studs. all of the load is being held by the J-channel so the clips at the top are mainly to keep them from falling forward. clips were installed 5" from the edge on each side
@@PlatoonGarage is your 1ft section in middle secured on a stud? How many screws for that section?
@@johnfrick7898two screws in the 1' section. One in a stud and one into drywall. Most of the load is held up by the two outer sections of j channel
Do you have a video of how uninstall the mirror??
Unfortunately no
What did you use at the top to hold the mirror in place?
The mirrors came with small plastic clips and screws
Thanks for the vid, I’m hanging a heavy mirror with no frame and couldn’t figure out what I needed to mount it. Also love your socks
Awesome, glad it was helpful. 😂 Glad you like the socks too!
Been following your build as we're finishing up our basement right now too (unfortunately not myself) and this is another great cost effective idea I'll be copying! Looks like you installed them 2' from the floor and ceiling since you have 9' ceilings? Have you been happy with the placement and size of the mirrors overall now that you have had them in use for a while?
Sorry I missed your comment, I've been really happy with the mirrors. I actually wouldn't change a thing 👍
i'm wondering at that height if you can see all the way to your feet when standing from the wall. if you want to see your form, its better to be able to see all the way from your feet placement on the ground and up. seems like your placement is high. if you are doing ground work, you probably can't even really see yourself. any thoughts there? i know you have an outlet right there but thats the tradeoff. seems like 12" or maybe 18" from the floor may be better to get full view of your body.
What did you use to secure the top.part of the mirror
Top mirror is held in with a small clip and a screw that was included in the package
@@PlatoonGarage did you screw the top part into drywall or studs?
@@mikeworkman1759 tip part is screwed into drywall 👍

@@AndresLler using a Bosch laser level. 👍.

@PlatoonGarage this is great thanks!
@AndresLler you're welcome
How is the top of the mirror being held in place
The mirrors came with plastic clips to hold the top secure to the wall
How did you mount the j channel that holds the bottom of the mirror?
Thanks
Wood screws
Are they not more dangerous without a glue backing that would act to hold sections/fragments of the mirror in the event you hit and crack them while working out in a gym?????
I guess dangerous is relative, there is pretty much zero chance of me hitting the mirror the way things are situated in my gym.
If breaking the mirror in your gym worries you, then maybe gluing them to the wall would make you more comfortable. I'm good this way
Which mirrors are these? Where can I find them?
@@carmenainsworth771 description has info
Can you put a list of everything you need!
really straight forward, get the mirrors - the box contains the clips and screws to mount the top. then get a "J" channel at the link in the description. Use some #8 1.5" wood screws to hold the J channel to the wall and that's it. You'll need a screwdriver and if you're fancy a laser level to mark out where the J channel goes. good luck
@@PlatoonGarage were anchors needed for top clips?
@@mightysyng8302 yes, the plastic clips to secure the top were included in the box, but they can go anywhere and don't need to be in a stud
What is that laser device you are using? to measure? I need that!
It's a laser level, made by Bosch 👍
is this in your basement in Colorado?
Virginia
Favorite “hang a mirrow video”! Did you put screws into every hole of the J mold or just screw when the hole coincided with the studs?
Thanks!
Only where the studs were👍
@@PlatoonGarage Thank you!
You only use the clips came with mirrors to secure top edges?? No mirror glue at all? If so, are they secured enough? Thank you for your help. I'm getting ready to get some mirrors installed in my home gym and got a quote from professional company for rough 3800 bucks for 127inch wall and 157 inch wall at 72 inch tall. What u used on the top to hold the mirror ?
The mirrors came with small plastic clips and screws. I used those
What are you mounting the top with..
Plastic mirror clips that came with the mirrors
What is the distance between your studs? 16” or 24”
16"
How high did you set the mirrors?
22.5" from the flooring
Do you remember what you used to cut the J-mold? I'm trying to do the same set up and need to cut a 1 foot length, but I'm concerned I won't get a straight/flush cut with my existing tools.
Yep I used a hack saw with a fine tooth metal blade, perfect cut. 👍
So you figured mastic was not necessary?
Correct, for my installation I did not use adhesive
What are those top mounts that you used called?
