Amazing interview.. Just like to add: Natalie Portman (while at Harvard) was a researcher or contributor to Dershowtiz's book Case for Israel. Dershowitz even thanked her along with other researchers in that book. But look at where Portman and Dershowitz now... One still defends libertarian values and fights for what he believes, but the other has lost her soul in the Hollyweird world. Sad.

  • @davidr4523

Great question by Ben Shapiro to Dershowitz regarding the moral dilemma of defending a known guilty person, especially one of a heinous crime. However Dershowitz comparison to a priest taking a confession of a killer or a doctor treating a killer does not hold up. In both cases you have no option to provide your service otherwise you are negligent and can even be jailed in the case of doctor. However an attorney has full freedom to choose or reject their clients. Also whereas a priest or doctor may spend a few hours on one day with the person they serve, an attorney's service going to trial will take weeks, months and maybe even years.
Also Dershowitz has no control if a freed killer will go on and perform another evil act. The bottom line is that Dershowitz defends his clients out of ego and money. The intrinsic/ethical considerations that everyone deserves fair legal representation is simply a good excuse to hopefully shield you from public scorn.

As a life long Libertarian, I have always regarded myself as a _radical for moderation,_ as in the obviously moderate position, to me, is that you, and you alone, get to make your own decisions concerning your mind, body, and property,... with the soul proviso that you must make restitution for the harm you do to others. That still seems moderate to me.

If you want impeachment to be bi-partisan then put those powers into law in the following process:
    1. Congress must vote 75% or 80% for a national vote
    2. A national vote must occur by which the people must vote 50%+1 and over 50% of the electorate must participate.
    3. Then and only then should it go to the senate who should also vote 75%. If a president is still impeached then definitely you have national consensus.

So according to ancient sages in the Torah, Eve, and Adam, (humanity) ate from the tree of knowing (deciding) good and bad, metaphorical for deciding for yourself, without wisdom, what is good or bad.
This is perfectly displayed by identity politics those who make false accusations.

Dave Rubin and Larry King: Meh. This is boring, and King seems kinda disrespectful and one-sided.
Ben Shapiro and Alan Dershowitz: Holy cow! This is awesome! Dershowitz is amazing! More please!
But seriously, Ben, I really think it'd be amazing if you did an appearance on Dave Rubin's show to debate Larry King.

Also a lawyer, like the two of you. I too have supported the use of enhanced interrogation when attempting to prevent terrorism and mass murder but the information received prior to and during the torture and information generated directly from the torture cannot be used against the person tortured.
