MILO THE MAINE COON GETS HIS FIRST BATH

- So @lifewithmilomute (Instagram name) is almost 3 years old and this evening he had his first ever bath, usually he’s ok grooming himself but recently there have been too many reappearing knots even though he is brushed everyday so we thought we’d give a bath a go as we keep having to chop chunks of fluff out and it’s starting to be noticeable. We took full protection AKA full biker gear on in the bathtub for claw protection, I didn’t manage to film me blow drying him as Shane was tidying up while I was doing it but he was so good letting me dry him! We’ve never considered bathing him before and not sure if we would try again or take him to an actual groomers. Clearly complete amateurs! 🙈

When you bathe a cat it is only appropriate to wear so much protection

this is a perfect use for my moto gear i have no use for anymore. my cat bites and scratches for his life.

Yeah dogs dont normally bite or claw their owners no matter how bad it gets. Cats do not have that layer of domestication ;)

That’s a good man there. Bathing a cat is like going into battle. He went in with protection. I’ve never seen that. I need that outfit for cleaning.

Bathing a cat with matted fur will make the matts worse. They get tighter when wet. You need a matt breaker and lots of patience to give poor kitty a full grooming. Sometimes you may have no choice but to cut them out. Instead of that wire brush, use a metal comb to groom him. It will get through all three layers of fur. You will find that grooming frequently will help to keep Milo matt free. Get em before they get bad.

Hey just to add, we use a metal brush called the furminator (also have a maine coon) and it really does a great job of brushing out the knots
I know this is old but to piggy back on your comment. If a cat does get dirty or I feel like "bathing them" I take a tub of water and a nice rough washcloth, wring out the washcloth really really well, folded into fours and use a corner and my fingers to make the same motions like when they groom themselves. The warm washcloth feels like another kittys tounge and they seem to actually enjoy it.
@@katl1489 Hi. I can see that working on a shorthair cat, but not a longhair. It also would have to depend on just how dirty and what the dirt is. Grease or oil would require a good soaping up (Dawn dishwashing liquid recommended). Toxic substances must also be thoroughly removed. We don't want kitty licking anything toxic off its fur. I do like your idea for some applications.
Don't cut around mats to get them off, cut through them a couple of cuts through a mat will enable you to tease it apart and not leave a big hole in the fur.

Pretty sure that suit is water resistant at least. But the socks gave me a bit of a shock too

Cats also purr when they are uncomfortable, to comfort themselves.

And to warm themselves or sometimes when they're sick. The frequency and pitch changes depending on why they need to purr. It's an amazing ability that can even speed up healing! (They can also purr to calm down their humans XD Apparently certain pitch of purring has a good effect on humans, which makes one wonder who domesticated whom?)

He's such a good kitty!!! Our cat always sounded like we were killing a small child. We were afraid the police would show up and expect a dead body.😲 Your protective gear is much better than leathers. I wasn't expecting a bath in the tub, it made me giggle.😂 I wish all of you well.
Bless his furry little heart. He actually did very well for a first time bath. My hellcat has to be sedated for a bath. The groomers at my vet’s office deserve combat pay.
I've watched several videos of pet groomers bathing cats, and the howls, hisses, claws and biting a plenty. So seeing how relatively relaxed Milo was just proves what a great boy he is!

Shane isn’t a cat person, he’s a Milo person. Having participated in cat-bathing, it’s incredible how calm that scene was!

My goodness, dad's got quite an outfit on along with gloves & all^^ He was prepared for sure. However, Milo behaved well during his bath. Great job gents!! 😊

he is very handsome!..i remember my Maine coons 1st bath!...it was also her last bath!.....my injuries healed, in time, but we made a vow, cat to dad, that she would lick herself from then on, and I would never be so foolish again....

I have heard other MC owners say to leave the head dry. Three years seem like a long time to wait for the first bath. Milo is so patient and trusting. He is well-loved and cared for!

Wow! I can’t believe that he didn’t cry once during that whole time! That’s impressive! Milo did incredibly well, considering that was his first bath and he wasn’t bathed as a kitten!
I used to shower with one of my cats when she was a kitten and she would cry the entire time! But I had to do it, on vets orders, with a special medicated shampoo, as she had a skin condition.

I agree. I had a Ragdolls who could not groom himself well so I took him to the groomers. Worked out very well.
Considering the breed of cat he is they all have longer hair like that

He’s such a calm cat. When my cat is uncomfortable she goes into a full frenzy
your family has to be the most calm, loving, caring household ever. I have never seen a cat have a first bath & just look long suffering! I'm sure Shane would have copped a few claw marks had he not been wearing his bike gear but I feel like they would have been accidents as he made a run for it. Truly a joy to watch, my new favourite channel.

Try looking for a grooming center that grooms cat. There's actually many cats that are very calm and maybe loves bath. I think the trick is to use warm water.

My 4 cats are so used to having a shower twice a year, the 2 long hair go to the groomer as well 2x a year. Milo doesn’t look too bad, he’s well behaved 😻🥰 good boy Milo!❤️

Oh Wow!! I didn’t realize that Milo was a Maine Coon. He looks so much like a Norwegian Forest Cat - mainly the shape of his face & his overall size. He’s so beautiful!! Blessings!!!
I still remember trying to bathe our cat after he fell into Dad's sump oil. Four adults, one cat. Maybe Milo has watched the dogs enough?
Awww, poor Milo. I understood he needed a bath, but he just looked so sad. Wow, he wasn't crying or fighting Dad at all, very well behaved. I had a beautiful black cat I rescued when she was 7-8 weeks old. She was like my daughter, and I was definitely her Daddy. She trusted me, without any doubt. She would let me bathe her at least once a month. She would cry/meow sometimes, but nothing too bad. This video reminded me of taking care of Shasha. Made me cry a little, I miss Shasha so much! Even though she past 27 years ago, I still think of her a lot! That's a great suit Dad was wearing. Good idea!

Milo was an exceptionally cool cat!! We had a Maine Coon mix (The Bear) & I used a brush called The Furminator on him @Life with Malamutes -- there are many different types of this brush so you choose the right one for your cat. They are amazing & will get every single knot out but you need to be careful not to overuse them or you'll break the coat down too much & are so useful for all that delicate work of getting the knots out of their britches & underarms!!
Love the tenacity of these animals and so proud to hail from a county in Ireland where we are referred to Kilkenny cats!
