    I'm glad that Bloomburrow came with 9 packs instead of 8 for the simple reason that it makes drafting between three players accessible for a cheaper price. The land count is troubling and more tokens would also make it a much more viable draft experience at home.

    As someone that strongly advocates for buying singles, like most others, I very much enjoy cracking packs. So I use bundles as a happy middle ground. I get to have my joy of cracking a handful of packs with every release without committing to the full price of a booster box. My LGS actually buys the D20s and boxes for $5 of in-store credit (which he usually lets me bump to $5.99 and just grab an additional booster pack)

    • @Shade7x
      @Shade7x 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Discontinuing the set boosters kind of killed the pack appeal for me. Since I'm not drafting, I only bought occasional packs just for that random fun factor of getting unexpected cards to add to my collection; maybe ones I wouldn't necessary choose for myself.
      It's hard to go back to draft - sorry, I mean "play" boosters now.

    • @jojobetzler3732
      @jojobetzler3732 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Shade7x That´s the whole point why play booster exist and why they "saved" draft. The people who like drafting, drafted at prerelease and didn´t buy draft boxes. people who like to crack packs bought just set boosters. enthusiasts and rich kids beyond the pack crackers bought collector booster boxes. but nobody bought the draft boxes until the got to firesale. Same was true with most of the precons so WotC put one high value, most of the time never reprinted card to the decks (starting with the LCC decks) lowered the printruns and no lgs is sitting on the precons anymore. The only f*ed people are these who really like to buy and play precons out of the box, because they have to move fast or pay markups.

    Bundles have been my favorite sealed product ever since I got into Magic, about ~2 years ago. While yes, buying a box "saves" you money per pack, spending 40 quid is not the same as spending 100+. This tends to be the only product I buy for each set /that I like/, on top of any pre-release kits or draft pulls, and I fill in the blanks with singles that I need for decks.
    Edit: That being said, Prof, I would love it if you kept making "Is it Worth it to Buy" videos for Bundles!!

I agree though that it could (and should) have more, such as the booklet with all the cards and additional lands. Coming from the Pokémon TCG, their equivalent to the bundle is the Elite Trainer Box, which comes with 9 packs, 45 energy cards, 7 dice, a pack of 60 themed sleeves, and a booklet with information about the set and setlist.

I’ve been trying to buy fewer booster boxes because I’ve noticed my partner and I don’t really USE a lot of the cards we get from boxes, but I do like the bundles to get SOME cards from a set. This was a good logical breakdown of the pros and cons of that. Thank you, Prof!

      The professor's also got a couple videos on two player draft formats, like the one on Winston Draft, that I highly recommend checking out if you're looking for a way to play those cards you're opening together a bit more. It's really fun to just toss 6 packs, or even 9 full packs from a bundle shuffled into a pile and winston draft them with a partner you both enjoy playing together with. Gives you the chance to experience playing with and making decisions about more of the cards you bought. Works well for both bundles or even full booster boxes. As a Magic hobbyist, these days I skip some sets, but it's really nice to have found some ways to experience a fair bit of the depth of a set even if I can't make it out to a prerelease and/or a bunch of drafts.

    In this instance at least, the 30 lands includes no repeats and gives you full sets of each of the full art basic lands through all 4 seasons, which I find very cool. When I learned that, it pushed me over into getting it because my spouse and I just really love a lot of basic land art in general and easily acquiring 1 of each of them so conveniently seemed like a good value.

    • @MatthewOstergren
      @MatthewOstergren 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Also, here in Japan there isn't a different between loose pack price and box price. Based on booster pricing here, getting a bundle means you are spending when you would spend to get 10 packs, to only get 9 packs, and instead of the missing pack get the nice full set of 30 basics, the storage box and the art that's part of it, the promo, and the very cool die. The die is maybe especially valuable to me and my spouse because we like to use them as counters in games, and playing with those dice reminds us of sets were really loved, and the times around when we opened the bundle and played stuff like Winston draft out of it together.

    I love having the box to store my set in. I like how they all fit together neatly. I bought my bundle on impulse while I was traveling and it was annoying that the card cup was gone because I needed to go through the airport with the cards so I had to use the empty pack wrappers to stuff the box with to secure the cards I got.

    Peace Offering is such a good deck. I played it for the first time and by turn 3 I had 5 lands and 2 mana artifacts.
    I then got a class enchantment that summoned 8/8 tokens every time I picked a land on my draw phase (40% chance or more with scry), a creature that lets you draw if your opponent casts two spells a turn, tons of drawing cards, a creature whose power and toughness is equal to the number of cards in my hands and a creature that poisoned the opponent if they sacrificed non-creature tokens.
    At the end of the game I was also five cards away from drawing a card with an instant win condition but I ended up just overrunning my opponent with 8/8 tokens and other creatures because I had such a card and mana. advantage.
    I can’t imagine how good this bunny hug deck is in a 4 player game.

    I'm a very casual player, and liked the vibes of this set, so it was the first time since last year's Ixalan that I've purchased a product. Was really surprised and disappointed to discover no more set boosters (mustve missed the memo!) as they were always my go to. The new play boosters were underwhelming, but the flavour and design of the set was lovely. Now that the products are less fun for me as a casual player/collector, I'll be less likely to take a chance on sets that don't appeal to me as much. This was a great video + comments section; it's interesting to hear what other people think of the set.

    I currently buy a bundle for each main set and the occasional precon, but apart from that it's all singles, so the bundles remain a nice way to get that pack-cracking fix for less than the price of a box, plus I love collecting the dice and do use the boxes for all my storage.
    I am very happy to see the inclusion of the full-art lands from OTJ onwards, I have a collection of all the non-SL full-art lands so far, and it's a nice way to keep my collecion up to date. The suggestion of including one of each token as well would be an outstanding move, please Wizards.

    I really want them to bring the basic land count back up because while I am a Basic Land Enjoyer, the bundles are a great place for new players to start. Thus a new player is gonna want a lot of basic lands to help build their decks, like Prof mentioned.

    I believe with the Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation bundles came with a selection of double-sided tokens of all available in their respective set cause of the Embalm and Eternalize tokens. It would have been nice to see that in Bloomburrow.

  • @aven78
    @aven78 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Funny thing is that Amonkhet block's bundles had nearly every token in its contents, one of each Eternalize and Embalm token as a way to be able to play with the cards easier and with Bloomburrow, which has a similar "copy token" mechanic, you'd think they would have done that here as well.

    Honestly, I bought the bundle primarily for the box. Would have loved that booklet as the art for this set is fantastic and so nostalgic.
    I really love your idea of the bundle coming with one of each token from the set. It's annoying trying to track down tokens and I feel people would buy the bundle for a token pack alone. The bundle should be a celebration of the set in some unique special way, it should feel like a gift instead of just a box of basic stuff. That being said, I love the boxes. Great for storage.

    Remembering the time when you got a whole-ass novel with the bundle, I willingly, knowingly overpayed 11 dollars for the extras. I got this bundle knowing it was not too reasonably priced because I knew I'd get one of every full art land as well as non-full art you don't get in the regular boosters, afaik (at least we didnt get them in the pre-release sealed pack) - saving me the hassle of having to collect the full spread. Normally I'd go about and trade for them, but I don't like spending any more time at my LGS than I have to, and people were hoarding them themselves. I also wanted more boosters but not a box full of them, so this was a decent mid point and pleasantly scratched my itch. Also needed a new box.
    Also also, I'm skipping Duskmorne - so I might as well get some more Bloomburrow.

  • @Larkinzzz

    Definitely agree that the basic land count in bundles should be upped to 50 (10 of each). Also think a fairer price should be $39.99 total and stores/resellers should be held to that.

    I’m new to Magic, Bloomburrow is the reason I got pulled in. I obviously can’t speak for the value that bundles used to have, but as a casual newbie I was very happy with everything included! However I do agree that there should be more lands, and all of them should be full art. Anything less than a full art land is never going to be used by me

  • @gspoiler
    @gspoiler 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    While the decrease in land count does suck for newer players the need for basic lands becomes moot fairly quickly as lands tend to pile up in bulk pretty fast. Instead I'd would drop lands down more if instead it contained featured lands of that set being either a few duals lands or a couple specialty lands from that set. I do fully agree with the sentiment of getting good physical media. A lore book or something containing the story of what I'm actually playing is very helpful to pass the time between matches at the LGS. Or some other type of trinket would be cool. Maybe one set has a cool figurine of the arena mascot. a keychain, or even a different type of life counter.

    One thing worth noting about the basic lands on the Bloomburrow Bundle is that each one is a different collector's number and due to the Season Full art lands the number of lands increases to 30 for this set. Prior Bundles of this year had the 15 lands of the set in foil and non foil with the bundle. The ammount of lands is still the same, but if you treat them as collectibles getting all lands is a nice touch

    For bloomburrow I decided to split a booster box with a friend instead of my usual bundle + prerelease box. I did this for the pack per dollar value. 18 packs vs the 15. I found that despite having a better value per pack I did not have more fun with the product. Because I spent on the box, my budget for the set was mostly used up before I even got to participate in any events for the set. Sure I participated in a draft later but I missed out using those cool foil full art lands and spin down die from the bundle at prerelease. Also I got way too much bulk from the booster box, even if me and my friend made sure we had one of each card. With Duskmourn I will be returning to my bundle + prerelease ways and cut out a fast food meal or two for an extra draft.

    As a returning player that no longer had storage and picked it up casually, it was a great way to get some cards from the newer sets and get nice storage boxes in the pack without investing into a full booster box. But as you ramp up in the hobby it kinda loses that draw. Adding the corresponding tokens would be a blessing, I always hate not having the play pieces!

      Getting a bundle or two is one of the things I'll do for a set I like in particular. If I am just absolutely ecstatic for a set, I might get a full booster box instead, but bundles represent a fair bit of enthusiasm. To celebrate my birthday today, my spouse and I got two bundles so we would both get dice and full sets of the basics, and then we can use the packs to run several Winston drafts, which we're both really excited to do over the next few weeks. When we get a bundle, we usually just go for one, but we both wanted the giant spindown this time, and the art for the boxes is just the coolest.
