I’ve been seeing women of a certain age wear capris for years now! I’m a woman of a certain age and I’ve never liked something like pants/shorts hitting me right at the knees! Maybe a woman of a certain height can get away with it but I’ve seen every different height of women wearing capris; they like it, I love it! 😐
Why is the goal always to look slimmer/skinnier? It’s exhausting and I wish we’d let that go. Maybe instead use words like sleeker/streamlined/polished/sharp.

Because clothes fit better when you are slimmer. It’s just the truth. No one is suggesting you be unhealthy or have an eating disorder but take what you want from the video and leave the rest.

Agreed. It's a strongly-implied directive that it's always better to be thinner. It's not that hard to avoid encouraging being thinner at every turn. That obsession has lead to eating disorders among young people, at unprecedented rates. It's not healthy to be that taken with being thin.
It’s a fake sense of beauty. Empty souls comes in every size.
The reason women wear tunic-length tops is to do what you said they do: hide your waist. If you are post-menopausal and have the larger belly that often comes with hormonal changes, you might want to hide your waist rather than have a top cling to it or -- worse, a cropped or fitted top that literally emphasizes the large belly. I speak from experience. That said, there are ways to wear a top that is longer and that flows away from the belly area -- that are more chic looking than other ways. The half or whole tuck is utterly unflattering to those of us with a large (I'm talking 7 months pregnant looking) belly. I understand you believe tucking makes us look smaller. It does not, at least for my body shape. Maybe do a video where you wear a faux pregnant belly and tuck things in and see what happens. :) Then show looks that are flattering for most of us over 50 who have these large bellies.

You previously told us not to wear a pant showing a lot of ankle/lower leg - said it makes legs look shorter and unflattering. Now because a celebrity wore them it's suddenly OK? Capris are unflattering on everyone. I also don't think you look classy in the shorts. They're too short, a tad longer would be a big improvement. Just because we CAN wear something doesn't mean we should!

Sorry I am a jewelry designer. Armani loves large costume jewelry. He always has strands of beautiful beads on his designs. A statement necklace on a black simple dress. Yes. Etta makes beautiful tunics. Armani has some tunics under jackets in his 24/25 line. If you can wear a belt and bring the tunic in the a bit at the waist it would look great. I am 5 feet 9. I can wear a tunic. The absolute statements that something is out of style is absurd. Tailoring can help someone keep many of their pieces. If you have a thinner to, you can certainly wear a loose dress without looking overweight. Sorry. You are a pretty young woman. Ditch the badly long died hair.

As a stylist you should know some looks don't flatter certain body types. For example, you said everyone looks better with your shirt tucked in and a belt, specifically stating it makes you look slimmer as it accentuates your waist. Maybe with your physique that works well because you're thin and have a small waist. Trust me, if you carry all of your weight in your chest and stomach, and you're short waisted, tucking in a shirt and putting a belt on isn't flattering at all! All this does is draw attention to the fact that your boobs and stomach become one, and the belt basically just shows how round your stomach is! This just highlights that there's no space between your boobs and your stomach! In some cases, the boobs can even overlap the stomach. In what world does that look good?!
Although you look best in the capris it is a No! Appears to cut you in half. What size are you wearing in the gold tube top?
I like capris like those because my thighs are a little heavier and my calves look lean so they balance me out. The fitted capris are nice, not like the frumpy roomy versions. But more for winter for me here in Florida. Too hot for summer.

There are those of us who aren't comfortable in shorts and couldn't be paid enough to wear a dress. For me, capris are perfect.
This video packed a punch when it comes to getting real with ourselves. I recently took literally several pounds of Chico's big jewelry to the local thrift store. I felt the "weight "of the money spent quickly disappear as I focused on finding the statement pieces that would go so much further, like you described.

Being seen in what I am wearing is my guide these days.
I've always tried to look "smart/classy, especially when I was working.
Having several medical conditions which affect my movement etc I always try to aim for Comfort.
I'm a big fan of layering - I overheat very easily.
I'm glad vests/waistcoats are back as they are a great way to "tailor" slightly looser/longer tops.
I'm definitely going to keep my existing baggier clothes for house wear only.
Having lost a lot of weight recently I'm rebuilding my wardrobe & have reverted back to dresses - again a necessity from a comfort point of view, until one medical issue is resolved.
Balance/common sense seem to be the guiding issues when putting an outfit together - is it appropriate for the occasion/look good ?

Tunics are good for certain body type, maybe for very slim people are not nice, but for a not skinny person, it really helps!

I only have one pair of white capri's slightly longer than what you showed I dress them up for casual night out with a pretty blouse or tank, anklets and heeled sandals, i have long legs so even some of my old skinny jeans show my ankles lolol Have an awesome trip with your daughter I hope you do some content of the trip.
IMHO, the first thing to ditch over 50 is hair longer than your chin (unless it's usually pulled back). It just draws attention to your neck which is the most revealing area for most women and men of one's age.
Love capris. Plenty of options from casual to dressy. Great for hot climates (lived in AZ, FL and now TX). Dresses and skirts don’t work for my lifestyle, but capris do.

I look good in capris and I do not care how anyone else looks in them. Capris come in all different lengths and depending on how long your legs are, or how thick makes a difference. I wear them for comfort, not style. 🎉 also, what they call capris today were called pedal pushers when I was growing up. Capri pants are longer in length.

Heather, I always think we use "trends" to make us and our bodies look best. Sometimes half tuck, French tuck, no tuck work depending on body type and outfit style. However, I hear from a bunch of people that half tucks are totally out of style. What do you think?

I had capris but I’m too short so I like an ankle length
Heels are great -- and -- a lot of us over 40 and 50 have foot problems. I had foot surgery in December and my foot is still not great, I have little ability to bend my big toe, so high heels, which I used to like -- are 100% out of the question. Would be great to see a video about shoes that are not traditional high heels -- that don't look frumpy. It's difficult but not impossible, to find shoes like that. And to style them in a flattering way.
Go for low chunky or kitten heels and wedges.
@@tonyak2446 Kitten heels are horrendous -- not only not attractive, just in my opinion, but really unstable. Great way to turn your ankle. lol. Wedges are ok but they have to be low, my left big toe no longer bends like normal so I can't have any shoe that creates a Barbie foot. ;)

I recently decided to ditch all the clothes and accessories that I do not feel good in. My tag sale is this weekend. I pared down my wardrobe and I like and use what I have left - it's flattering, comfortable and casually elegant. Makes life so much easier and nicer! My only remaining battle is with my hair. I am 73 and the texture of my coarse wavy hair is a real challenge. So, I am going to my excellent hairdresser and turning it over to him. THANK YOU for your videos. I really appreciate that you wear and share items that are reasonably priced - even if they're not my style - I get ideas on how to translate them for my look and that's really fun.
What is worse frumpy or skanky? There is a style that is stylish and high end that is neither frumpy or skanky. 😊

Accentuating the waist DOES NOT LOOK GOOD on a short torso. The half tuck barely helps, but is doable without looking like a 110 pound sack of potatoes. No capris! They only looked good when I wore them as a teenager in the 60s!! Now that I am in my 70s, slim and petite, I have a 32G bust! I can't wear fitted tops, so I usually opt for shorter tops or ones that I can tuck in or half tuck. Definitely no tunics for me.
I’m not certain how I feel about capris coming back into style.

I teach college and all my students wear jeans, so I don’t think it’s a grandma look lol. Mom jeans are actually coming back for some reason.

One must have stellar legs to wear capris in my opinion. Not many over 40 do.
I think they are unflattering regardless of how great your legs are. They chop the leg in half. Your eye doesn't know where to look, and your brain is confused. Are they pants, are they shorts, what are they? Maybe OK for a walk on the beach, but no way out in public, and wearing heels with them looks ridiculous.

It’s better to stop emphasizing on looking slim, tall and completely stop talking about AGE.. Why are we making rules about how a person should dress at a certain age? It depends on individuals personality, sense of style, confidence, etc., I wear everything that you said not to wear and it looks pretty good on me and get loads of compliments.. Why are we chasing after trends? How many times does one have to update their closets.. I think it’s time for the world to focus on conscious living and being aware of the impact it creates on our environment

Nothing new learned in this video. Just seems like an opportunity to possibly make some money if someone clicks on an affiliate link below. Very few women over 40 can wear the clothes that were modeled. Wear what looks good on your body type not what the latest trend is for the season. The trends are driven by people who are making money in the clothing industry, including influencers. Who really thinks the half tuck looks better than a nicely tucked in shirt? Every style comes back around. I've always liked the preppy look. Now the button down shirts and other classic styles are back. Loose jeans are in and skinny jeans are out. Jessica Simpson was ridiculed when she wore jeans that were called "Mom Jeans" after she had a baby. Now they are all the rage. Be yourself and wear what makes you look and feel attractive. Many men don't prefer the skinny look.
