Special thanks to Danae Lim for videos
    / drdanaelim
This video discusses PDO monofilament threads. This is the most commonly used thread type.
    What are thread lifts?
This procedure is meant for mild to moderate skin laxity.
What is the difference between monofilament & barbed/suspension threads?
Monofilament treads are made from suture material, most commonly used PDO. Other substances like poly-lactic acid is also used.
    .
What areas & concerns can be addressed with monofilament PDO threads AND who are good candidates for threads?
Lower face, neck, mild jowling. Patients with good dermal thickness & minimal sun damage do best.
    .
    Do threads work on everyone?
Nope. They are good for mild laxity. Moderate laxity can be corrected with suspension - barbed - conical threads. If your collagen is lax, with minimal breakage (solar elastosis- sun damage), & if your dermal thickness is good, threads may be an option.
    .
How long do the results from threads last?
About 6 to 12 months. Honestly, more towards the former than the later. PDO threads dissolve in 6-7 months however histological studies have shown collagen stimulation for up to 9 months.
    .
What is the science behind thread lifts?
Thread in the dermis & hypodermis causes tissue fibrosis, meaning collagen stimulation. This improves laxity. Another theory is that threads in the subcutaneous tissue cause mild apoptosis of fat cells & tightening of the fibrous septae between fat lobules.
    .
    What combinations work best?
Really depends on your clinical presentation, age, dermal thickness, ethnicity & expectations. Dermal fillers can be placed under threads. RF & HIFU can give synergistic effects. If skin quality needs improvement, certainly lasers can be beneficial.
    .
    What threads can not do?
They can not give meaningful volumetric displacement. They are not a substitute for surgical intervention.
    .

I had the procedure with thread lifts for my marionette lines. Had 10 threads inserted in my cheeks. It lifted my cheeks, reduced my marionette lines, made my face shorter and firmer. The procedure was not painful. I am doing it again for sure. Look 10 years younger, and my face looks the same, just younger.

I currently have Barbed PDO threads. It's literal magic for jowls and nasal folds. However, it hurt ALOT even with lidocaine injected. Prepare for a day or two off after. It hurts to smile, brush your teeth, eat. It cost $1500. I like the results but considering the cost, pain and not lasting that long I doubt I'd do it again.

Red Led light mask, then tretinoin is worth a try. No pain. It’s a slow process but then any result is worth waiting for. It’s not as quick and impactful but then threading isn’t guaranteed either. I’ve been on the LedLight mask since Nov ‘20. (This is 8/‘21). I think the puppet lines are less now. I’m 73. In my area, using the “Rx” free coupon knocks off about 45$ for the tretinotin. Don’t rush the process as it’s slow in acclimating the skin. Now I can use these every day but that took months. No bruising, infection, uneven sides of the face, not noticeable. I mean, really, the thread can show!

I just got Matrix threads done yesterday with a fantastic injector. After numbing cream it was so quick and almost painless (just a tiny sting, very bearable). No bruising, swelling, pain at all. I'm getting hyperdilluted Radiesse next in 4 weeks as part of my treatment plan to build up collagen and firm up jawline/prejowls and Belotero for chin projection/v-line. It looks so natural no one can tell even 1 hour after treatment that anything was ever done...takes a few weeks to see the full results but I was a pretty good candidate as I am at the mild sagging stage with thick skin/fat levels at age 40. I do at-home chemical peels & Retin A, serums religiously and have a healthy diet/lifestyle/avoid sun exposure which also helps greatly 😉😁🤞

When I have melting stiches my skin doesn’t heal at the stitch site until I pull it out, does this mean it’s a no go for me?

Ultherapy HURTS. Big time but helpful. I find prp microneedling just as effective for me

Dr. Lim I've experienced more pain in life. No way am I going to have this done to look younger. Plus I'd want you as my doctor for surgical procedures but I'm in Illinois 🇺🇸

I had threads done a few days ago along with prf/prp injections. What are your thoughts on combining these two procedures?

PRP imo is a waste of so much money. It was incredibly painful and the only pro was the mid swelling. After a day or 2 of all swelling gone, I had no results.

Dr can you please talk about any surgeries that make the eyes longer or larger?? I can only find things like double eyelid surgery which don't seem to be for me -I'm 23 and white, I have slightly hooded eyes I guess but I feel they are small and too close together.
If I could get bigger eyes, my whole face would be so much better

Once the thread lift is done, will the effect of the treatment be affected after for eg sleeping on the side, or maybe rubbing the skin with makeup remover?

Why do you leave them sticking out like that? Why don't you remove them right after they are inserted? Is it to remember she you placed them?

I just had it done by a professional for free as a training class.
It didn’t look like the above needles. Instead they numbed my face in a straight line from the top of my cheek bone to the bottom of my neck with lidocaine, which burned like crazy!
Then they inserted the hollow tubed needles in six places, one at a time, from my check to my neck - they had to be about seven inches long - and pulled them out leaving the thread sticking out.
They did two next to each other, twisted, Rubbed upward and pushed it beneath the skin.
The results… enough pain to make it uncomfortable
to eat for two days, sore, bruising type of pain, and pinching for a week. It almost feels like your face is fatigued so eating, talking and smiling are an effort.
As for what I look like …… drum roll….I look like nothing ever happened!!!! An Infinitesimal difference… not a person would notice! I don’t even look refreshed.
Verdict: Not worth it. Save a little more and get a lower face lift. Thank god I didn’t pay for this!!
