Just stumbled across this video. My wife and I are planning to head up to Powder Mountain later this year. Hopefully, we will get lucky and catch a good storm cycle.
Powder was my home mountain for three seasons 2010-2012. Lots of places to get fresh tracks on day after the storm. It’s great place to get into skiing powder in backcountry type terrain. Definitely ski and take the bus ride back. The snow cat ride up to Lightening Ridge is worth the $25 ticket but make sure visibility is good because it’s wide open.
Lived in SLC for years now and still haven't ventured out of the cottonwoods much. Is there any decent terrain at pow mow? Looks like the snow stays fresh a long time but idk if they have all that many good runs to lap on a storm day.
I think there is enough terrain on a POW day. It’s a big enough area, to get some of the goods you need to hike or skin some. There are plenty of fun lines. There is less skiable vert than other areas but way less people. This video was shot two days after it dumped 90+ inches. Pow Mow was closed three days prior to this day because there was too much snow. We went here because the backcourt was so unstable and everything else was all hammered out. We skied there for two days after the storm. Recommend.
Great video. Glad to see it only has 249 hits, otherwise this place will get over crowded before we get a chance to go back there. Hey, what sort of gimbal (sp?) are you using? Your shadow at 1:50-2:40 makes it look like it might be shoulder strap mounted, but other clips suggest a chesty mount (both hands visible). And is there much of a leaning curve. Going to the canyons in March
Ah-Hahhhh! Door's open. Will try not to be a pest; just want to finally make a video that looks as good as yours (conditions permitting). Camera make/model? Did you tweak the sky color and gradient from that deep blue way up high to the light blue at the snow? Are you a pro/advanced amateur with the video stuff or pretty much a beginner with an interest. Shoulder Mount: part of a store bought "gopro" package, came with the gimbal, etc.? Prefer shoulder to chest mount; or was that because of the equipment you already had?
Cliff Camera is GoPro Hero 5 Black with Karma gimbal. I bought a $20 GoPro compatible strap mount purchased separately for my pack it is a PolarPro brand item. I did color correction on the video and that is all, no need to tweak anything else as color is very accurate in good light. I have noticed that the video quality depends on what capture mode the camera is in and you will get different results with different resolutions and frame rates. This was captures at 2.7k and max frame rate. I have done very little video but have been working in still photography for many years. Hope this helps.
Hey my brother and I are getting an extremely rare 2 days together at Powder Mountain this weekend...Would you kindly tell us what section this is? I LOVE skiing the evergreen trees. It would be very generous of you and could potentially make our trip better.
I am moving to Ogden Valley. This is irresistible.

That's what you call a dream day

Skiers are boring.
Unless you are skier yourself.
That's what all the adolescent snow boarders say. Some day they will have to mature for a better perspective.

It is Powder Country down to the bus and the opposite side. Just a bit of hiking on the other side to get down to the bus too.
