    People don’t talk about Cantona’s weird ability to transform the fortunes of multiple clubs, after long periods without league success.
    He won Ligue 1 with Marseille twice, in 1988-89 and 1990-91, ending a 17-year barren spell. Then, he went to Leeds and won the English First Division in 1991-92, ending an 18-year barren spell. Famously, he moved to Manchester United and won four Premier League titles between 1992-93 and 1996-97, ending a 26-year barren spell. He won seven top-flight league titles with three different clubs over a nine-year period (even including the famous nine month ban), often being the transformative force behind their success - unlike many, he never joined dominant clubs for an easy medal; he himself was the key to their victories. That is absolutely insane 😂

      @thesmithsnerd Love that stat. I really can't think of another player who can match Cantona's unique ability to transform every club he joined into champions, ending barren spells, and winning seven league titles in nine years without joining a dominant club. Even among the greatest players like Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, and Zlatan, none can claim all of that. I’m a big CR7 fanboy but the guy has more league titles than CR7, and he didn't need to play for 20 years to get them. That's bananas.

      Not really an ability, more blind luck. He was a squad player at a Marseille team spending shit loads, and then went to Leeds to sit on the bench whilst Lee Chapman scored the goals.

      @@kb5509 Difficult to quantify but more than blind luck imo.. In his Marseille/Leeds period Cantona's scoring 0.36 goals per game, which is pretty comparable to a lot of classic deep-lying support strikers like Bergkamp at Arsenal (0.28 goals per game), or Totti at Roma (0.4 goals per game) or Rooney at Man Utd (0.45 goals per game).

      @@therealocgamer9701 I don't think it's harsh at all if you're talking about them winning leagues. At Marseille he scored 5 goals that season, and they loaned him out half way through the year to Bordeaux. I don't know of many key players getting loaned out during a title year. Papin and Allofs were up front for Marseille as t the time, 2 well established, elite European strikers.
      When he went to Leeds after being banished from France, he didn't even get there til February and only started 6 games from then until the end of the season, as Chapman and Wallace were established up front.
      I'm not saying he did nothing, but he wasn't even a starter. Marseille were throwing massive money at transfers and referees to win, which is why they won the next 4 league titles and a Champions League after that first season.
      And Leeds were rolling. they were 2nd in the table and a point behind United when he signed. They had the best midfield in the league by a mile, their 2 strikes scored about 35 goals, they had the 2 best attacking full backs in the league.

    • @therealocgamer9701
      @therealocgamer9701 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kb5509 And to my point, Marseille went onto win one more league title ever (2009?) and Leeds haven’t won a league title since. I’m not saying he’s the entire reason, but I am saying that I literally can’t think of another elite player that ticks all those boxes
      * 7 top-flight titles in 8 years
      * In multiple countries
      * For 3 different clubs
      * With none of those clubs having won a title for decades
      Not CR7, not Messi, you could make an argument for Zlatan, maybe I could find another if I spent a day thinking about it 😂

    This debate doesn't work . Different eras dictate the value . £24m for Silva , a Euros and world cup winner was a bargain . £1.2m in 1992 was expensive . Am I missing something here ? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✌️

      As a Wednesdayite I wish we had him for years!
      In reality we got him for less than a month preseason lol
      Turned out to be a huge mistake from and a great player for Leeds and Man Utd

  • @sususegar

    Couple of glaring mistake there. United won the treble 2 years after Cantona retired. Yorke was still to come in the next year after Sheringham joined. The season following Cantona's retirement, United lost the league title to Arsenal. On a sidenote, Sheringham never really found the net much until his final season at United. While Fergie and many of his former players often quoting the need of rotating 4 strikers, he obviously bought Yorke simply because Sheringham was not cutting it for him.
    I'm also very sure David Silva was at City long before Pep arrived. I clearly recall seeing him play against Fergie's United. You guys have to do a bit more of your homework, disappointed by the drop in standards you set previously.
