Modern Tudor is killing it, what Rolex was like in the 1960s. A good tool watch with great specs, expensive, but not obscene.

I feel like I’m in the minority, but I’ve come to really value having a date complication on my daily wear tool watches. And unfortunately Tudor only has date complications in their more bulky offerings.
If they ever made a BB58 sized watch with a date complication, that would be fantastic.

My first true luxury watch was one I just received this past Christmas. A Tudor Pelagos in black. It's done what I thought no watch ever could--become the only watch I ever wear anymore. Too much text on the dial? I love it. The matte black ceramic bezel, the amazing crispness of an all-titanium watch, the sharp edges, the endless versatility...it's a watch that scratches all my itches. The fact that it's not an 'iconic' watch you see in lots of movies actually makes it more attractive to me. This isn't James Bond's watch, it's mine.

  • @ExpeditedProductions
    @ExpeditedProductions ปีที่แล้ว +10

As said previously, Longines. Definitely should make the list. Tudor is my number one. It surpasses so many pieces at the same price point even if the “Black Bay” line up is getting a redundant. What is funny to me is that everyone pushes for smaller pieces, I actually like the original 41mm “slab sided” originals. The original heritage line will always be iconic yet modern.
Love FC! I also have been looking to add one to my collection. Can’t decide over the Highlife line or a more classic piece. They are exquisite!
Excellent smorgasbord of options, TGV. Thank you, as always. Onward and upward, my friend!

Love that you mentioned Grand Seiko! Best value in luxury watches! Only thing I do hate is the 9S hi beat as when I store it in my watch roll I see it lose about 3-4 seconds a day! So annoying! If I have it flat I think I get about +1-2 a day. After a month I lost a minute 🤬🤬🤬🤬. I love Grand Seiko but have to share my not so pleasant experience because I expected more. Spring drive is great and I am eyeing on a 9A5 movement because just looking at that design it should be a much more stable watch.

Seiko Marine Master 300. Not yet as iconic as its Rolex and Omega counterparts, but destined to future legend status, and currently the best buy in the luxury divers category.

Back in 1980, I flew out to Middle East with my wife and one year old son on one of those all expenses paid contracts. After two years, we took our first holiday to Switzerland (much cooler) and I decided to get myself a decent watch. My wife suggest Rolex, so we walked down the main shopping street in Geneva and found ourselves in the Bucherer Boutique.
No idea which model to chose, so I looked around and came out with a new Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet and a champagne dial. Just over 2,000 dollars worth. Still have it today. Been serviced a couple of times since then and after 40 years, it still manages +1 sec/day!! Did somebody say quality? :)

Great take on the value concept. I think I agree that when you get up to 5k plus, the brand is a big part of the value. At the 'affordable' end, its much more about tangible values (construction quality, materials etc) for the price where micros and now Chinese brands have caused so much disruption. In my experience so far, these two concepts of value meet at around 2k. Personally I cant see much difference in quality between my Cpt Cook or Aquis and my Seamaster or Superocean both costing a ton more. And I maintain the best 'quality for the money' watch I've ever handled is the Sinn 104. Mine is on the fine link bracelet and every time I wear it the balance between sheer solidity and refinement surprises me.
    Take care.

Excellent video, TGV! It comes at a remarkable time - I recently acquired my grail watch, a mid-1970s Porsche Design 7176S by Orfina, which will be my nomination for one of the best iconic watches/brands in this price category. A watch that needs to introduction, from a brand that has continually produced original and phenomenal designs for over 50 years, not to mention the tie-in with the eponymous car marque. It's certainly not to everybody's taste, but for me that's part of the appeal!
I recall you were considering getting one of these design icons, I could not recommend it enough. There is nothing quite like the genuine patina on the lume or the aged, almost gunmetal like PVD finish on the case and bracelet. This one ain't leaving my wrist anytime soon.

Personally, I love these videos the most, when you talk about “entry level/mid-tier price point” watches like Omega, Cartier, Tudor, Breitling, Glashutte, Blancpain, JLC, Longines, Panerai, etc. I see too many channels that just want to talk about AP, Patek, Rolex, and Vacheron. Too many great watches out there with just as much history, just less “investment potential.” On the other end I’m not too much into Seiko either. Yet. Love your channel TGV. Incredibly well made video & a classy and miscellaneous list!
I think a vintage Zenith El Primero might also be a great option in that price range offering a rich history and still being pure class today.

Mine was past $6k, a Grand Seiko SBGE277.
That said, i got lucky when i saw it go below $5k($4.3k), i went all in and i dont even care about value retention. It's got everything I've want in a watch and it's one I'm happy to keep for life.

I actually find vintage Omega designs alot more appealing than modern Omega. Omega Speedmaster Mark 4.5, Mark 3 ,Flight Master, Omega Seamaster big triangle, Soccer ⚽️ time chronograph are awesome 👌 Pie pan Seamasters. Just alot of fascinating pieces

Mine was a Tissot. Now, I know this probably isn’t as fancy or anything as some might demand, but both my first recently acquired luxury watches (as I’m new to this) are Tissot. One is the T-classic luxury Powermatic 80 auto with a carbon fiber dial, and the other a Gentleman auto p-80 with an anthracite dial. I did a pretty solid amount of research on them and understood it fairly well for an amateur. What I found pretty amazing during my “studies” was the amount of Omega owners that bought one and said the Tissots kept better time! I mean, it’s not something I’d ever notice at those tolerances 😂 (but I found it interesting). I didn’t expect the world of them for the prices I was paying but I gotta say, these watches are really, really handsome too. The bracelets are finished beautifully and feel very substantial. Both are heavy watches and i really like that too. They don’t have fancy complications, (just the date) but still. I’m pretty thrilled with mine and for the price-points? At Msrp $895 for the classic and $795 for the gentleman? I have two brand new luxury timepieces that look and preform the part WITH an 80 hr power reserve. (The only thing I can think of drawback is to get the 80hrs they drop the 28,800 htz to 24,400 and it gives he seconds hand a bit less smoothness (like 5 or 6 tics a second instead of 8 or 9)? (Sorry, like I said I’m new at this). I’m loving it though! It kills me how much I’ve spent on trendy type fashion watches before I took the time to learn! (Even though id only buy ones marked “Swiss made”) somehow now I don’t think it helped much. Anyway, better late than never! I’m happy to be learning and excited this is my first step in the wider world of horology. I just thought I’d mention my initial choices for examples, being someone that (just did it) ya know? I’m pretty happy with them so far and (i don’t know enough to recommend them long term obviously) but my “off the bat” impression is that they are both gorgeous, extremely well made watches. I almost haven’t even taken my classic off yet! I even slept with it on the first few nights I had it! Lol. 😂Anyway for a less than $1000 dollar foot in the door of luxury watches I do highly suggest taking a look at what Tissot has to offer. (Also I’m really glad i found this channel, it’s exactly what I was looking for in the way of learning and understanding more as I go along. Thank You 🙏!!!!!

Great list TGV, as usual. You know, I just can’t get over the feeling that a watch without a date complication does not serve me well. So those options that don’t sport it are automatically out of the list for me.

Kudos for giving the Sinn 903 a quick mention; like you I literally bought the Navitimer book last weekend, and after devouring it, came to a simple, albeit not so easy conclusion - surely the Sinn 903 is the logical evolution of the Breitling Navitimer from a design and engineering perspective? The fact that the german engineers behind it have been able to make the Navitimer design truly water resistant with a rating of 10ATM, whilst keeping the size sane at 41mm should mean that the Sinn 903 ought to be celebrated more - but only once I've gotten my hands on one; then let the hype begin!

Hi T, i bagged a tudor aeronaut GMT with bracelet for under 2k . Its 41mm but only 10.5mm thick, and feels like a true luxury watch. I have the bb41 in s and g , and although its a chronometer, and keeps amazing time, the older tudor is streets ahead in class, and really has the rolex DNA. I also have a old rado original diver, and the construction is just amazing. Tungsten carbide bezel, ss bracelet with a titanium clasp. Rado really are fantastic watches , that know how to combine the best materials. The captain cook range are great value , and rado as a whole are a very underrated brand. Whilst i havent experianced a grand seiko, i have got a sla043, the 62mas, and its got to be bordering on that same level, because its a gorgeous diver . I do have a soft spot now for a panerai, they are toolish , but their design are just so cool. Keep up the good work, youve always had a great passion for this hobby , which makes you the best reviewer ive seen , because your love for this hobby shines through. I dont always agree with your taste , as your more military than me , but i do respect the fantastic effort and research that you do in your work. Maybe you should audition for the bond job ? Look at all those fantastic omegas , you could play with and design , lol. Well maybe not bond, as you are a little short, but you would make a brilliant Q !!! Its not just a pen bond , pay attention !!!

I think I'd add Fortis to the list along with TAG Heuer. The former for the Cosmonaut and the latter for the Carrera chronograph. I have a fascination for space exploration. It explains why I have a Sturmanskie 33mm, Poljot Strela and a Bulova Lunar Pilot. Tag Heuer always will have an association with formula 1. I grew up watching Senna, Mansell and Prost battling it out with TAG Heuer popping up on the screen. They're still the watch sponsor for Red Bull which has seen a resurgence in performance lately.
In one race I saw Christian Horner wearing a Carrera chronograph with applied minute markers on the dial. Alternatively you can go vintage style too.
