No, I think it works a lot better this way with his character development/arc. In series 8 when he doesn’t know who he is or should be, he uses someone else’s sonic. In series 9 when he embraces himself but hasn’t fully become his Doctor, he has the unique Sonic Shades, and after Hell Bent when he’s finally confident in himself as the Doctor he gets his own sonic screwdriver. I just wish he had a longer run so he would have user it more that way (7 like tom baker would have been nice).

Can be tricky to discern colors with varying lighting, but here's what I could see of the screwdriver's different functions: Green: general, scanning, lock/unlock Pulsing green: organic scanning Blue: turning on/off, some scanning Chase/"disco" blue: tech, energizing, quantum Torch mode: white; self explanatory Red setting: not seen in-series; presumably works like 11's and River's -Was pulsing green ever seen in series 10? It looks like it was only used in Class (0:20) -Could be the lighting, but it looks like both green and blue are used starting at 4:03 for similar functions
For the Extremis part at 4:03, I thought that green was used to scan the Veritas for general info and blue was an attempt to interface with the Sonic Sunglasses in an attempt to read it, because he holds it horizontally and sort of hovers over it.
I saw the scenes from class, and I kept on checking the Wikipedia page that shows all Doctor Who episodes, and I was just staring at the 10th Season for about 20 minutes before I read the description and searched up Class.
