I love these old slideshows of history. Newsham park was also the host to one of the most famous people in the old Wild West. Buffalo Bill Cody brought his wild west show to Newsham Park in July 1891, he actually camped there while his show was in town and one of the things he commented on, was how friendly the local people were.

Went to Newsham Park many a time in my younger days, usually with my school friend course fishing on the lake (late 60’s early 70’s) or with my dad sailing my yacht on the boating lake when I was much younger. Great memories.😊

I lived on Belmont road between 1954 and 1974 . The windmill and the aviary had gone and the domed boat house had been replaced with
a large wooden one . My mum used to take me to watch the trains by the bridge on Lister drive. The bases of the fountains still exist . I always
wondered what they looked like, now I know . They must have been very impressive in the day.

How beautiful is our city, the background music by Sarti makes me realise that the world from that time no longer exists, sad isn't it.

Lovely photographs. I used to take a big model yacht down there when I was a kid. Had to get my dad to drop me off it was so big. Went to Lister Drive and lived in Richland. Used to hire a rowing boat a teenager (around 1970). Thanks for the memories.

The music I used for this slide show is Erik Satie - Gymnopédie No.1
