How Fast Are These Light Weight eBikes? The SCOTT Lumen First Ride

  • Here's my 'First Ride' of the new SCOTT Lumen, a lightweight (16.5kg) eBike that has 130mm of travel.
To test it, I put it against my personal fastest known time of the loop on a SCOTT Spark. The loop is a 10km ride with over 420m of ascent and descent and the result was very interesting.
After, I take it to Cambusbarron for a lap of some of my favourite trails and to use the remainder of the battery. This is a super fun, capable and lightweight eBike that is perfect for trail riding and exploring.

    Some quick questions answered:
    - I'm riding a size large, I'm 189cm (a 6 foot 2).
    - The cable integration is easy to install and work on (check out the bike build)
    - The TQ system offers 50Nm with a 360wH battery with the option to add a range extender of 160Wh.
    - The bike has a 130mm of travel and I've spec'd my build with a 140mm fork and grip 2 damper
If you've any questions about the new Lumen, leave it in the comments section down below.
Thanks for watching and see you on the Trails!

I'm curious about the size ratio between you and the bike. Your position on the bike is very upright. Is this your preferred size of bike or does it depend on factors? Great video btw!

Great vid. Thanks so much. I heard the motor only kicks in at something like 75 rpm cadence. Did you find this to be a problem on slower technical sections or when stopping (like when you did the sideways hops) and getting started on steeper terrain?
And on a scale of 1-10, how much does it feel like a regular mtb? Ebikes typically feel totally artificial and overpowered. 500w on most bikes are just insane.

how much distance and climbs did you do before the battery was empty and in which mode did you ride uphill?

    • @ScottyLaughland

Distance was just over 25km and just shy of 1000m riding predominately in Boost for the climbs but trying to be as preservative as possible!

@@ScottyLaughlandriding experience, how does it respond, how old is it, does it rattle going downhill, how is connectivity? I am riding an All-mountain without motor and had the chance of riding a Levo SL and a Scott full e-mtb. The Lego hat a smooth electric motor and enjoyable assistance, however, compared to my motor-less Switchblade it was noticeable, but OK, 19 kg were heavy. The Scott hat a Bosch full power motor which was too strong even in eco and kept pushing too hard; however, newest gen may be adjustable via app, which you don't get with rental bikes.

Thank you! So far I’ve got nothing but good things to say about it. I’ve put countless hours on the bike, taking it around the Alps and it’s been brilliant, such a fun and capable bike!

What kind of issues does the motor have? I tested several bikes on this motor. One bike has subjectively more power and it was deadly silent. But another bike had high-pitch CRT like noise from some electric circuitry and the motor disconnected several times. There were no assist at all. Like some one was turning off the assist switch back and forth.

Great video, Scotty. I'm seriously struggling between getting the Lumen or the Patron. Scott bikes are my go-to, especially my main ride a Scott 2018 genius tuned 900. Our local terrain, whistler BC + North Shore is gnarly + rough, steep downs. I just don't know if the Lumen can cut it with only 130 mm travel. I'm 6 ft + 200 lbs w/o gear .... a stellar bike but wish they'd beefed up to 150mm

    • @br5380
      @br5380 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I can recommend a Specialized Kenevo SL, it's got 170mm of travel but is lightweight (and a lower power motor) - works really well for me in Scotland, might be more suited for the rides you do than a short-travel eBike.

Oft, that’s a hard one! I’d want to say the Patron atm as it can handle those bigger hits but that being said the Lumen is awesome but I think you’d want to build a custom version like I did with a 140mm fork!
