- This video marks the end of the Renault 5 GT project.
This journey was epic for me.. I started with a very rough 5GTT with a broken engine (cracked piston) and many faults.
I did a complete rebuild of the engine with new cylinder head, Liners, Connecting rods, pistons, Crankshaft and so on. It was a steep learning curve, and mistakes where made!
But the car is now a pretty reliable driver and the smiles per mile that this car gives to the driver is beyond amazing... on a small twisty road this car rules!
So its a goodbye.... but not forever.

Good on you for not letting things get dusty, in the US there are too many guys with classics letting them rot into the dirt because they can't let go. Thankfully I don't have that problem, no money and no space. Haha

I've discovered your channel because of the 5GTT.
I have a mk1 Clio with a 1.6L Cleon engine, which was exclusive to Argentina, where my car has been imported from.
I was looking into Renault 5 Turbo stuff to check what I could use to turbocharge my Clio, as both have pretty much the same engine, and ended up finding your videos.
Sad to see it go away, but I'll be sticking around for more projects. :)

Really enjoyed the build series on the GTT, I like your criteria for getting cars, almost all of them are quite interesting. So much content to watch :) ...and I get the itch to buy something old and french....

Really sad to be seing this car go. Whatever replaces it has some big boots to fill.
I fully understand all the points made about why a car had to go, just wish it wasn't this one. The GT Turbo is not only a car I've wanted since childhood. It's also the car that changed me from casual viewer to subscriber of this Chanel.
Looking forward to seing the next project.
It was a hard one to let go... lucky I can visit it at my friends house..... and that is nice! :)
@@SeasideGarage I've still got the 1989 brochure with a white GT Turbo featured inside.
We've had six in the family over the years but never a Turbo. Would look good next to my Mégane Coupe.
Upwards and onwards to the next one , hard decisions but you don't know what fantastic project is waiting around the corner.
Cant wait to find out what the next is going to be!

Always think a closed door opens another, you gave this car a live it doesn't look able to have again and better if its going to a friend's garage.

Sad to see the 5 go but understand your reasons behind it. At least you'll get to see and drive it still which is a huge bonus 👍

Very interested in the cinq head gasket as many of those have the same problems and some of us will learn something from your experience at repairing it. Don't sell it if you can as it's the last cheap fiat with character. Great to drive

Sad to see it go. There are very few 5 turbos that are still the same as when they were made and in such beautiful condition.
It will still stay original and unspoiled at my friends garage... And I doubt that I have taken my last drive in it... ;)

I wish a had the channel back then... I changed the chassis and rebuild the entire turbular frame using a pipe bender! it was a lot of fun!
Do the number plates not stay with the cars for life?
Nope...
You buy the numberplates and they will stay on the car for as long as it is MOT´d... this is every 2 year.. if it does not pass withen a set date it will loose the number plates. then you will have to buy a new set when everything is fixed.. around 250euros are the price for a set.. and you have to pay road tax and insurance when the car is fitted with plates... :)
