  • My flight with the Blues with my camera facing forward. Started with it facing me but switched it to forward at about the 6 minute point during taxi.

It's great when we don't have to listen to someone else's idea of "fantastic" music and we can just enjoy the engine and air sounds. I've been watching Blue Angel and Thunderbird videos for years but I have never seen one facing forward like this. It's like you're in the back seat but don't have to feel the Gs. And the shadows look awesome.

YES! I've never been a fan of the loud music they play and some guy on the loud speaker talking throughout their performance. Shut up and let us hear the sound of the jets.
Better yet, put the lead pilots voice on the loud speaker talking through their cadence.

I know that's not easy to qualify for, then you guys were responsible for more work than regular squadron guys . With that 100% Aircraft Availability or the show doesn't go on ! I've had the privilege to see them in 7 different locations around 10 times or so always awesome! Favorite tricks are when all planes cross at one point and sound barrier surprise on the crowd (very deceptive and freaks everyone out!).

I want so much to fly in one of these jets before I leave this world! It has been my dream since I was a child when F105 thunderchiefs would fly over our house on a practice bombing run. They would be treetop high and the windows in our house would nearly break. The house itself would literally shake and my patriotic blood would surge through me like a bolt of lightning and out the door I would go to watch them fly over, deafening, awesome sound from that big bird. I still get chills just thinking about it. Then at the age of 14, I got that bolt of lightning, literally, surge through me when i took a direct hit at the Boy Scout camp that summer. It’s only by the grace of God that I’m still in this world. This must be the most awesome job in the world. Hats off to you fellas...nothing but respect 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was curious as to a typical speed the Blues are flying, and there was a perfect opportunity to measure it! I noticed starting at video elapsed time 18:30 it took 12 seconds from over the approach end of runway 32 at NAWS China Lake to get to the far end. On Google Earth, I measured this distance to be right at 9,000 feet. So 9000 ft. / 12s = 750 ft/s. That amounts to 511 mph, or 444 knots. Seems fast, but that's what it obviously is. WOW! thanks for turning that camera around - it was just stupendous to see how those crazy maneuvers look from that angle - like the viewer is flying it. Just wonder if anyone knows why the lead #1's landing gear came down (starting at 19:54) right before they did that trick where #3 wing man (this jet) flies upside down above #2 wing man (who is right side up - and almost touching tails with #3). That was amazing to see like this. THANKS for posting this video!
Tip: if you play this video at 2x's speed, the flight paths, pilot intent and maneuvers become much more apparent. It kind of gives you a much more clear perspective. Then, when you find an interesting maneuver, slow it to .25x speed to see the intricate nuances. I never realized that there was FIVE jets in the air till almost 49 minutes in - by seeing their shadows on the ground! I really enjoyed watching this!

Wow, what you see on the ground doesn't even compare to how close the F-18's are flying in formation. These men and women that fly these majestic machines are all brave and true warriors. Amazing footage Stan Jones, I've watched videos similar to this one but the others seldom ever illustrate how these birds are literally less than 36 inches apart.. Totally amazing and awesome.. - God Bless the United States Armed Forces !!

Huh? No women have flown on the US Navy's Blue Angels Demonstration Team. Well if I'm guessing your comment was that women only fly the C-130

    • @jus4561

Only female considered a blue flew F-130. No female has ever flown C-18. Sad, but true. Still mad respect for all blues, including those who fly F-130 though.

Watching your video is the closest I've ever gotten, to knowing what it would be like to fly with the Angels! I was promised a ride with them in early 2001at MCAS Miramar - then 9/11 came, and the air show that year was cancelled. Don't ever take for granted, the opportunity you were afforded. God bless all our Service Men & Women for what they do!

FINALLY a look forward seeing what the pilot sees. Thank you to the passenger for spinning the camera forward. The only thing missing is the radio (intercom and Boss comm’s...”ready hit it”...a little mooorrree puuulll...little mooooorrrre poooowwwerrrr. That would provide everything but the”G’s”. Still the engine sounds etc are better than music. Surly beats watching a passenger black out or vomit. Just almost perfect video for those of us who will never get to experience such a thrilling ride. Thank you!!

Whew Tex, this is some slick driving. Honestly I'd be terrified if this thing was after me in any battle-ready interceptor configuration. Thanks SO much for nothing but the real audio and thanks fellas for the tour of this desert.

So precise!! Notice how the pilot keeps the yellow part of the wing of the jet to the right to the 2 o’clock position in the window at all times!! They must have a very sophisticated way of communication and visuals and speed to keep so close and precise with movements! Awesome!! 👍👍👍

The blue Angels are the absolute best of the best of the best. Additionally all of the pilots have balls of steel! I got sick watching this video on some of those inverted rolls etc. it's obvious why becoming a blue Angel is among the most intense and difficult training regimens that exist in the military (I'm also a huge Thunderbird Fan).... The Blue Angel pilots are very very very special.

@@stanjones8495 That was a very unselfish thing you did. It says a lot about you. Most people would have wanted it on themselves and it made for a spectacular result. When I saw this for the first time my wife was fighting Cancer. She lost that battle last January. On my bucket list was hoping to get an opportunity to fly with the Blue Angels before I check out, and for some reason this video gives me a sense of peace. It sure as hell beats seeing a Grief Counselor. Thanks for taking the time to post it and doing such a great job with the GoPro.
