As I’m listening more I like it more and more, I think you’re definitely right when you say it’s not a big album like vertigo or no future, and I’m disappointed there’s not more music because it’s been two years, but besides that it’s really different and beautiful, it’s dark but pretty, so interesting

if i remember correctly, there was another albums length of songs he threw out to rebuild what he wanted ICYMI to be. And I think ICYMI is more solid than no future tbh, more of a range I think

i think reaching 2 is quite possibly jon’s best piece of production yet

Call Me Back and Reaching 2 are the best songs in the album imo. ❤

With regard to what you said during your reaction to Elsewhere:
You are half right. It is true that eventually people who are very good at production start playing around with the sound, but that doesn't make them blind to it. What it means is he REALLY wants to experiment with how much he can do with sound, beyond JUST making music in the form of catchy production and melody with nice singing. He also wants to utilize the sounds that are less comfortable. Such as the offbeat and akward alarm and chime sounds, repetitieve line replaying over and over, in Elsewhere. He doesn't do it because he thinks it "sounds cool", he does it to build dread. And because he builds that dread, the listener experiences something unique that they don't often hear in music, and for many average industry music enjoyers this doesn't do it for them because they don't care about music that way. But for many of us, who listen really for the whole experience and really not just for a nice sound(though those parts are also very necessary) we LIVE for this kind of thing.
But also it wasn't just done to sound bad, the overstimulating, uncomfortable and robotic sound of that section builds a very strong contrast between what coms right after, which is very minimal production other then what's done with EDEN's majestic and angelic sounding vocals, it's almost the opposite of what came before it and it sounds natural, relieving and very beautiful. And it sounds even more relieving because it marks the end of an uncomfortable section of the song. But you also get used to that part with more listens to the point you can also appreciate the cues that do have some kind of hit to them in that section while still appreciating the relief and contrast after it ends.
He knows perfectly well what he's doing, he just isn't trying to please everyone. He knows what and who he wants to please with his music and he is doing it very well. Elsewhere is one of my top tracks on the album and one of the biggest reasons is that he's willing to sacrifice having it sound traditionally (good) in favor of a unique experience with it's own benefits that you couldn't achieve otherwise.

I understand what you’re saying about wishing there was more fuller length songs on this album, but I actually really appreciate how concise and cohesive this album is. On my first couple listens through (start to finish), I felt so satisfied with the album as an album as a whole. Am I gonna play songs like A Call and Waiting Room on their own a lot? Doubt it. But they definitely *have* a place in the album, they belong.
One of my biggest gripes with No Future is how bloated the album feels to me. That album *really* slows down and gets really sluggish through a large portion of the middle of the album. There some great tracks on there, but I wish No Future would’ve been cut down more.

I mean calling it a song is a bit of a stretch, it’s moreso spoken word poetry which isn’t too popular.

I'm sorry but this was painful to watch because I feel like you are projecting what you want each of the songs to be instead of looking at what they are trying to tell you. Especially your take on Elsewhere.
Edit: i do understand that's because its the first listen of a highly anticipated album for you, so I still respect the raw reactions. God knows i say some dumb shit the first time i react to something.
