I generally consider myself mechanically illiterate, but I was able to follow this video's instructions and successfully replace my water pump on my 2002 Dodge 1500 4.7L in under 2.5hrs; thank you for the video.
I like real time videos like this instead of a 2 minute video where everything appears to be as easy as drinking a beer and goes down as easy as a raw oyster. Great video!
I've done this twice in 100k miles on my 08. For those of us without the fan clutch wrench and holding tool, it is still very doable. I remove all but one of the water pump bolts with everything in place, then loosen the shroud. Tilting the fan shroud to the rear will give enough room for the fan and pump to be removed through the top. I then put the old pump in a vice, clamping both the vice and pulley. Yes, it bends the assembly, but it's junk anyway. A pipe wrench will loosen the fan clutch. On reassembly I leave the fan off, put everything else in place without bolting the fan shroud, spin on the fan, and secure the shroud. Yes, it marks the fan clutch a tad, but doesn't hurt a thing.
Aprendí mucho en tu video.simplemente eres de lo mejor para explicar.eres todo un maestro.todo a detalle.saludos desde Coahuila México.y bendiciones.y gracias por compartir tu conocimiento
Thanks for this video. I have a 2003 4.7 Ram. I noticed the other day that I had a crack at the corner of the radiator near the upper hose which caused a number of issues from overheating to coolant spray all over the engine bay. Given that the truck is 14 years old I've ordered all new parts, and am glad to find this video.
Really liked your realism and how to keep at it to get it done. The title says 2002 and you say it is a 2012. I think you need to update your title to say 2012. Thanks for a great video though.
I just saw your video the other day and really helped me change the water pump on my 2003 4.7 Dodge Ram. The only problem is when I turn on my ac it starts to squeal. I didn’t have that problem before and the belt is in good condition with no cracks or nothing.
l don't know how to work on a dodge but a buddy of mine came to me needing a water pump replaced and this video is easy to learn. thanks a lot! Only question is, do you open the air bleed then fill it with the new antifreeze?
Great video thanks I got a 2011 Dodge Ram 4.7 got to change my water pump it just went bad it's got 288,000 Mi on it can't believe it lasted this long I'm guessing you don't have to use gasket sealant because of the rubber gasket ring
hahhah "you gotta make faces at it. one thing you learn from being a mechanic is patients and some words im not going to say on camera" this guys awesome!!
Great video , I getting ready to change my water this weekend , I just notice a pink liquid coming out out the either the water pump it self or from the thermostat housing , I guess I’ll have to find out this soon enough 👍🏽 thanks again
do you believe in machine flushing a radiator or will it be just as good to drain , replace the thermostat and refill with new coolant, I ha e a ram 1500 sxt 4.7 it is not running hot but due for a change
The reason for machine flushing is for the environment. in the old days we would run a flush in the coolant system. Get the car hot. Then remove the T state and lower radiator hose. Flush with a garden hose until the water ran clear. Then fill with fresh Antifreeze. Yes i believe in machine flushing the entire coolant system. Not just a drain and fill radiator.
Bryant Jackson Thanks yeah I don’t remember the name of the light. Purchased it at Napa auto parts I still have it I’ll check tomorrow and let you know
Thank you I appreciate it and i have on my question I just got a 2003 ram 1500 4x4 4.7L for free but it has 273k on the odometer I don’t think it’s the original engine is there any way I can confirm that?
love to see a good extensive shop-toolbox tour. lots of tool junkies out there tim. i know certainly am. also love to see some vids on any 2011 to 2014 hyundai sonata 2.4 gdi. any repairs on that particular motor. thanks again for everything u do buddy. another good video. have a good day
Will be showing some new tools soon. I will also be on the look out for any Hyundai jobs To shoot Videos. Like timing belt replacement. Valve cover gaskets ect. Thanks for watching. We are in a flood watch and tornado watch. here In Clearwater FL today. Crazy weather.
nice video. I have a 2007 ram 1500 that I thought the thermostat was out on due to overheating. I replaced it but the engine overheats just the same. the lower heater hose is cool to the touch and upper is hot when the engine runs. I know I've installed the new unit correctly. A friend thought it was air locked but I dont know how to bleed off the air. Any thoughts?
Richard Cowtails your chances are slim bro, sadly, it's most likley the head gasket! Had that happen in a grandam, thick white smoke from the exaust...and it was the head gasket
The thermostat will cause overheating quickly. As will a head gasket. The thermostat can be tested in boiling water when you take it out of the car. the head gasket is tested with a special tool. hope this helps
Damn thanks. The mechanic told me the other day that there was a small leak in the head gaskets. By the way, the temp needle is at hot but the radiator is just warm. Maybe it's the pump.
No RTV necessary with rubber seals. RTV is mostly used to form a gasket. Not to be used with rubber seals or paper gaskets. Except on rubber valve cover gasket but only on the corner at the cam cap crease.
the mechanic i went to told me that the water pump runs with the timing belt so he is charging me 600 dollars it he correct or he is bluffing? any comments will be appreciated thanks
Every mechanic has different prices no one has the same prices. The reason for that it’s because we as customers can’t put a price on their skills or time if it was so easy to do mechanical work there wouldn’t be no mechanics in the world. That’s my opinion sorry I’m not saying the price is fair but it is what it is.
I generally consider myself mechanically illiterate, but I was able to follow this video's instructions and successfully replace my water pump on my 2002 Dodge 1500 4.7L in under 2.5hrs; thank you for the video.
Your welcome
I like real time videos like this instead of a 2 minute video where everything appears to be as easy as drinking a beer and goes down as easy as a raw oyster. Great video!
When you started talking about mechanic anger with stubborn parts I could totally relate haha
I just use a big adjustable wrench and set the handle at 12 o'clock and wack it hard and fast with a crow bar. Quick and ez

Thank you for taking the time to record your work on this. I'm a shadetree mechanic and I was able to do this in a couple of hours. 2 Thumbs up .

Amazing video my friend. Gave me the confidence to do this myself. Thank you!!
Thank you I wish I had time to shoot more videos lately but just been way too busy busy

Possibility that the belt tensioner is bad? Take a look at that
Coopers Automotive Repair thanks!
There are 2 different belts for this engine depending on the size of your idler pulls. There is a 3/4 inch size difference in the belt sizes.
l don't know how to work on a dodge but a buddy of mine came to me needing a water pump replaced and this video is easy to learn. thanks a lot! Only question is, do you open the air bleed then fill it with the new antifreeze?
No you bleed it through the radiator cap
Great video thanks I got a 2011 Dodge Ram 4.7 got to change my water pump it just went bad it's got 288,000 Mi on it can't believe it lasted this long I'm guessing you don't have to use gasket sealant because of the rubber gasket ring
Thank you just so true with a rubber gasket no RVT sealer required
hahhah "you gotta make faces at it. one thing you learn from being a mechanic is patients and some words im not going to say on camera" this guys awesome!!
Bray Seville Try to make it fun when I can thanks haven’t shot video in a while got to get started I can’t wait to it’s fine

Amazing video very educational and detailed
Thank you for watching I appreciate it. And your comments of course. It’s been a learning process and I enjoy doing TH-cam
Thank you for this video sir.

My water pump just went on my 2002 4.7l i was thinking about replacing it myself. Can you recommend a good brand replacement?
NAPA brand would be fine they’re better quality one though
Great video I been looking for that flashlight for longest I use to have one but left it on a customer car hahah what’s the name of it
Bryant Jackson Thanks yeah I don’t remember the name of the light. Purchased it at Napa auto parts I still have it I’ll check tomorrow and let you know

Yes The 8 digit of the Vin . I can’t remember which number is the engine size but the dealer to tell you

I have seen the water pump impeller come loose on this engine. this will cause the same problem
Could use bungee straps to hold shroud back
Why doesn't my 02 ram have the 2 nd electric fan he pulls out stuck to the radiator.is that why my brand new fan clutch roars all the time??
Electric fan is for AC and temp back up. After market fan clutch are Usually loud. Better off going with the factory fan clutch
Ok I. Just found out my truck needs the heavy duty one and I got the regular one on my truck.
Great video! Thanks
What is the too you used to take the fan off sir?
It’s a special tool just for fan clutch i You can rent one from the auto parts store
where is your shop
b stanley I’m located in Clearwater Florida
Good video 👍
Is their any way that a bad water pump or its gasket failing could enter the coolant in the exhaust without being a bad head gasket?
Richard Cowtails your chances are slim bro, sadly, it's most likley the head gasket! Had that happen in a grandam, thick white smoke from the exaust...and it was the head gasket
Good Job. Nice information well done. thank you.
Torque lbs pounds..screw?
Andy Dick as mechanic. Lol. Nice video, thanks.
James Waid thats what I was thinking
Look up an old actor named Sterling Holloway. That's who this guy is.
I need a video for a 98 dodge magnum 2.9 v8 any out there?
Not sure I haven’t seen
Is that a 2002 or 2012? because I heard you say 2012.
Jenny Martinez 2002
That’s not a 2002 Dodge Ram you can tell by the type of hood and the grill
Crazychris that’s what I was thinking
Same process you just have to use common sense to get it done as well
is there a way of telling if it's the water pump or thermostat that is bad?
The thermostat will cause overheating quickly. As will a head gasket. The thermostat can be tested in boiling water when you take it out of the car. the head gasket is tested with a special tool. hope this helps
Damn thanks. The mechanic told me the other day that there was a small leak in the head gaskets. By the way, the temp needle is at hot but the radiator is just warm. Maybe it's the pump.
Victor R if the engine is overheating but the radiator is only warm it’s most likely your water pump
muchas gracias thanks
Title says that it's a 2002 dodge ram but he said it's a 2012 dodge ram with only 28,000 miles
What’s the name of that tool?
I think you’re talking about the fan clutch removal tool
@@CoopersAutomotiveRepair the other tool that looks like a tensile pulley tool
@@CoopersAutomotiveRepair you used it to grab onto the 2 bolts you put into the pulley
hey its dana carvey....
Title says 2002 but you said 2012???
Oh my goodness you’re right LOL sorry about that
👌
silicone not nesesario???

I have a 3.9 v6 bud sry bout that
That’s no problem I think I need to do a lot more water park videos very calm and repair on various vehicles
