First Time at the Movies EVER (Cubans shocked reaction in America)

  • Yoel for the first time at the movies EVER. Yoel, a Cuban, has never been to the movies in America. For him, its like actually "being in the movies". Watch his first time reaction to going insider of an American movie theater- with tickets, beverages, popcorn, food, seats that recline and large screens. A completely DIFFERENT experience than back home.
This is our first time going to a movie together. In cuba, movie theaters are destroyed and if they are working, they do not play new releases - rather super old foreign movies usually.

Yoel said he felt just like the character of Free Guy - someone who thought they were living life until someone showed him the "other world". Can you imagine that? Comment your favorite movie below. We will be doing a reaction video of us watching your favorite movie! (75% chance we both have never seen them).

I am now an older woman, but when I was a little girl, my grandparents had a vacation home just outside of Havana. I am humbled by how you perceive my country , your new home, and I wish I could share what your country was. The thrill of taking the train from Chicago to Miami, then either a ship or a plane to Cuba, where there would be a type of limo to take us to our house. I spent a month every winter playing with the neighbor children (not only Cubans, but many Europeans), going out to dinner, learning how to eat amazing Cuban and all Latino foods, how to dance!!! Attending movie and theatre premiers. It was more cosmopolitan than the Chicago that I knew. I remember sitting at the dinner table listening to the adults lamenting the progress that the Castro regime had made. The January of 1959 when we locked the door to our house we knew it would be our last time seeing that home and country. We took anything of value from the home, but, left our clothes and shoes with the people we knew would need them soon. I know my grandfather sent supplies to some of the people we knew and loved until it became absolutely impossible, and my grandfather's passing. Everytime I see the history that you include, I laugh, " I remember that.." and then I cry! Even though it has been 60 years, somehow I have to believe the Cuban people that I remember, will take back their country, and we will see Cuba again! Blessings to both of you.

It is very beautiful your comment and your story. I asked myself, why are not the Cubans taking back their country? Are not enough Cubans in America that can do something, are any of them with some influence? I just wonder how much longer it will be…

    • @coolHawk_
      @coolHawk_ 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@AnabelleLoaiza It is so counterintuitive but makes so much sense that the easiest fight is when you have everything. Fighting against the government in a rich, free nation is so much easier because you have the resources and ability to want more and know more is out there. We see socialism and communism time and time again take nations that have it all and make them into nations that have nothing through promises of even more for everyone. Even if the social movement is there, Cubans would have to overcome their lack of resources to fight against the government. I truly wish that these socialist and communist ideas were ideas that would work, simply for the people living under those ideas, but human nature is always the death of these community-based ideologies.

Mari you are so kind to do the work of making subtitles for those of us who can only speak English. Your videos have brought me so much joy and a renewed appreciation for living in America and having so much available to me. I'm a 69-year-old grandmother living in a wheelchair for 13 years now after a serious accident that took everything from me... my home, my business, my income, my car, everything. My husband had died 3 months before my accident. Don't pity me, I am so happy to be alive. I still have more than 90% of the people on this planet and for that I'm thankful. I just wanted you to know that I was in a bit of a rut and seeing you two, especially Yoel with his new experiences, has awakened a new energy and spirit of joy in me. I'm 20, so I can't say that I've had much taken from me in my short time, but these videos still make me remember not to take things for granted. So many in my generation take the United States for granted and, while there are issues, it is so important to remember that every nation has its issues. I wish people who complain about not being able to buy that 2000 sq. ft. house as a single person on a cashier's pay would be open to seeing the struggle that even educated people go through to simply afford to eat more than the rationed food they're given in some countries. These videos really humble me and make me want to cherish the moments when someone asks to try one of my fries at the new In-n-out that has a line out the door, because at least we live in a nation where that restaurant and that hour-long line can exist.

It took me awhile to understand how lucky we are here. Even those born into poor circumstances have many avenues available to them in order to better themselves. This is the true American dream. I would love to see Yoel's reaction to visiting a large public library for the first time. In my opinion, the library represents the peak of societal freedoms, as it is one of the few places one can go to, where there is no expectation for you to spend money. Also, modern libraries offer more than just books or movies. These days many libraries offer things like 3D printing, genealogy records, local history, access to academic research, seminars on how to run a small business and access to appropriate legal documents to start one, and more! And you can also borrow some BONKERS things (depending on the library) like toys, board games, musical instruments, video games and video game consoles, kitchen appliances, and even internet access via mobile hotspots! Libraries still have a major role to play in society, and they continue to grow into a form the patrons most need.
    Thanks for the great content!

After the revolution (especially after the Bay of Pigs) all the money started going to the Bahamas. There was only 2-3 hotels on Grand Bahama when I was a kid. Now there's hundreds! I would love to see Cuba open up BUT I hope the Gov. has the foresight, to have laws in place limiting growth! After all it has a giant neighbor to the north to see their bad example. I love watching these videos for two reasons:
    1. To see a man come from a place where most people are poor, and then see his absolute joy when he gets to begin living the life he (and all humans) have deserved all along.
    2. Every time I see how grateful Yoel is, even for what most of us in the U.S. consider basic necessities, I am humbled and reminded how blessed we truly are in this country. Seeing things like this convicts me of how I personally need to take notice of how convenient and comfortable my "average" life is here.

i came from costa rica when i was 9 and i never took anything America gave me for granted. i still sit in the rain and listen to the sounds the wind the raindrops and thank god i am in a country where i am alive. I love America so much that instead of using my scholarships i decided to become an air force combat medic. I wish i didn't get severely hurt but i would do it all again until my body is battered and broken.
Now that i found out i have stage 3 cancer at 42 years old i appreciate everything. I am grateful to be in a country where i served as a medic and saved lives despite the nightmares of the ones i couldn't. Glad to see Yoel enjoying it and you for bringing him along to the adventures of exploring The US.

When he drove to the beach 4 hrs away I was so nervous. He is back in Germany now, very successful. Returns to the states every 3-4 yrs. Because of the Covid restrictions 2020-2022 we did not see him. 😢

My ideas are Yoel goes camping at a National Park, Yoel goes to pick cherries, Yoel goes to the capital city in his state, Yoel goes to visit a farm, Yoel goes to zoo, Yoel goes to Japan, Yoel goes to a museum, Yoel goes to Ikea, Yoel visits the trailer park (lol, this one I'm just curious about his reaction), Yoel goes to Universal Studios/ Disneyland, Yoel try escape room, Yoel goes to Vegas, etc.

Don't forget Yoel goes to nascar and gets to meet a náscar driver and takes him on a ride.

I live, like, 10 MINUTES from that movie theater! Welcome to America! We're glad to have you here. 🙂

I met a Brazilian man when I was living in Florida who had just arrived in the U.S. a few weeks earlier. He became my best friend, I actually moved in with his family and everyday basically was like this. Just in awe of how magnificent America was. It was an excellent reminder to not get too used to things. Hope you're well, Yago.

It was great to see him react to all this!
Not having the option to go to movie theaters during Covid drove me CRAZY!! But since theaters around here re-reopened in May, I've definitely made up for lost time by going eight times so far, and am going again Saturday!!
