- The Kingdom of Spain had a very disappointing collapse of their Empire, everything in red used to be controlled by Spain, making them one of the biggest Empires in human history, although they’re often forgotten, as the British, Roman, and Mongol Empires are more popular.
After Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Spain, it all started going downhill. After the Peninsular War, Spain was in a political crisis, accompanied by the loss of its overseas colonies in the Americas and the rise of Basque and Catalan nationalism during the Industrial Revolution.

In almost every single map of the spanish empire they either forget the spanish netherlands or the spanish holdings in italy. It infuriates me.

There is one really important thing about the carlists, they supported de centralization a lot which would help a lot keeping the empire toguether. Also is likely that eventually the capital is moved to mexico as spain itself was probably the weakest area of the empire and since spain intermixed with locals eventually there would likely be given equal votes american spanish and peninsular spanish and "tye colony" would be closer to spain itself
Moving the capital is a really interesting suggestion. If I knew that, I could have added it in the video for sure!
@@rewriting-history the spanish constitution that ferdinand refused gave equal rights to the spanish on both sides of the athlantic and were seen as equals, not the philipines, those were much more of a colony, and probably after 1 or 2 generations it would be more of an american state more worried about brazil usa or canada (uk) than european affairs as mainland spain was a backwater compared to the american parts. In the spanish empire fir every 10 gold coins 1 was used in europe and 9 in the americas. Thats the reason why spain was irrelevant after loosing the empire whike france or uk quickly recovered

Now if they want to become hostile after the war, that is different but regardless, Britain would not give up Gibraltar. They would rather antagonize the Spanish and fight a war in the future then give it up even if WW2 is some kind of alliance of Britain vs Spain and their allies they would rather fight a war. That is how important Gibraltar is they would not give it up without a fight.

Since Spain still had a massive empire, wouldn't they have gained more colonies in africa? If yes wouldn't it alter WW1 more, especially with the treaty at the end of the war??
In addition to if Spain were in the triple entente, since the king of Spain also has the title of king of Jerusalem, if they defeated the Ottomans in the subsequent peace treaty, Spain would surely claim the territories of current Israel and Palestine under a protectorate. of Jerusalem or a captaincy general of Jerusalem. Not to mention that Spain made attempts to conquer Cambodia and Brunei so possibly these were replicated and came to fruition. Furthermore, Spain would surely remain the main world power, but one of the clearest things is that Morocco would surely be a completely Spanish protectorate, not like in our reality, which was divided between Spain and France, it would have a greater presence in the Pacific, surely forming a Viceroyalty of Indonesia (it should be noted that this would not be composed of all of Indonesia but the Philippines, the island of Brunei and surrounding islands in addition to its Pacific islands) this viceroyalty can also have the name of Viceroyalty of the Philippines, Brunei or the East Indies, Surely it would be given more possessions in the distribution of Africa, possibly predominating the aforementioned Morocco, a larger region for Spanish Guinea in the Gulf of Guinea, surely Tunisia due to Spanish attempts in the past during the beginnings of its empire, possibly some concessions. In East Africa, the most likely small size or the island of Madagascar to have an interconnection between its American, European, African and Asian territories. The relationship between Spain and France would not be entirely positive, mainly because France has a territory known as Perpignan or Roussillon that previously belonged to Spain and also having Napoleon third in power, assuming what happens as in our reality, that relationship would not be positive at all. less in the short-medium term and it would be more pro-Prussian in the Franco-Prussian war due to the fact that Spain has territorial claims against France, in addition to the fact that France would not be important as in our reality it is surely between the third and fourth world powers. Spain's greatest enemy at this point would be the British Empire since in our reality it encouraged the independence rebellions and that tells us that they would try it in this other one but failing in the fact in addition to the fact that then it would be more difficult for the British to consolidate their power starting with a great disadvantage in resources with the Spanish Empire, it is most likely that industrialization could occur in the British Empire but Spain would take little time to catch up so possibly the British Empire would be much less important or powerful in this reality. Parallel, remaining as the second world power, remaining as the rival of Spain as a step in our reality between the French and the British until the arrival of the Germans, now I could not tell you if this, in the case of this reality, would calm the Spanish-British rivalry or inflame it more by putting the Spaniards on the German side I think that it is 50% yes, 50% no, that would be very variable political frameworks due to the already historical and existing triple rivalry between the Spanish, British and French empires, something that I am clear about is that the British would have control of India and they would be given quite a few concessions in Africa but surely not as many as in our reality. Another thing that would change are the opium wars in which Spain would surely be more involved than it was in our reality because it would be beneficial to have the Chinese market open, with the Philippines as the main trading point in the East. Another change would be the opening of Japan. abroad, since the Americans did not have much control of the Pacific, this imposition of the USA towards Japan to open itself to the world would surely not have been given, although it is most likely that another nation would have done so, possibly the British Empire, the French Empire or Spain itself, but There is also the possibility that this did not happen and Japan did not have the rapid industrialization it had and the Japanese empire was not formed and finally it is the annexation of Hawaii to the USA. It is most likely that they would remain independent like the Hawaiian Kingdom or they would be annexed. as protectorate by the British Empire or the Spanish Empire. Now around the First World War and consequently the Second and the Russian Revolution, things would not be chlorine as they could be due to what has already been mentioned in the existence and possibilities of Spain's relations with both Germany, the British Empire, France, Austria. Hungary, Italy... From my point of view these would be the most likely scenarios if the Spanish Empire did not collapse.

Why did Germany have to give up Memelland after the Lithuanian uprising in Russia despite not really being a part of this conflict?
I give it a 7/10 in realism, it was an enjoyable video.
They were already in decline by the 1800's. They were an irrelevant power.
They spent too much time, money and manpower fighting dumb religious wars.
They got a lot of land in Europe due to inheritance.
But their Religious Intolerance, basically made them lose it all.
Had they not been intolerant religious zealots and tried to enforce trade policies that only benefited the crow, the Dutch would have never revolted.
They didn't revolt against Burgundy for almost 250 years. But the moment the Spanish inherited Burgundy it all went to hell, because they tried to force religion and trade policy on the Dutch.
That War triggered the whole Religious Wars that would go on for almost 100 years.

As a Spanish myself, and with quite a bit of knowledge about our history, this video sadly comes from a false premise, Fernando VII swearing the constitution wouldnt have solved anything, all american territories outside of Cuba, Puerto Rico and Peru (a true royalist bastion that didnt rebel, but was conquered by Bolívar and San Martín) developed independence ambitions that were irreconciable, coupled with high levels of republicanism stemming from the US and the French revolution, the actual measures to mantain the empire in the Americas would had to ve taken before, there are two possibilities, the Aranda Memorial, wich stated that basically out of the continental american territories we should have created three Kingdoms of the same dinasty that were basically independent but cooperating with us economically and geopolitically; or another approach that was to cut power from the Vicerois (the delegates sent by the King to be supreme authority, this system also was used in like Italy, Aragon and so on at various times) and let the nobles, cleregy and third estate of the american territories have their own cortes (this was somewhat problematic due to the Bourbonic centralism, but could have actually have been done under Carlos IV that was a bit more leanient due to him not being too smart) also, the more rebellious territories were New Granada and Río de la Plata, why ? Because their Vicerroyalities were newer (and New Granada was actually abolished during some decades in the mid 1700s) and less well structured, so that gave rise to the unchecked influence of local authorities, also they had less priviliges inside of the complicated political and economic system, also affected by the trade reforms of Carlos III that were detrimental to american trade.
Also the Philippines were actually given autonomy, but some months after the peace with the rebels was signed, the war against the US started and they returned to the rebellion, and actually they fought the americans for like 4 years more when they conquered the islands.
This was one of your best scenarios so far! I love the realism you putted to this, because Spain is still powerful, but they don't become the undisputed hegemon of the world that many imagine if the spanish empire survived. This is a 10 in realism.

You’re insane lmao. There just an isn’t a realistic way for Spain to hold on to those colonies for as long as they did with such little problem. Spain certainly wouldn’t develop that well either as these colonies are what led to their stagnation as it gave them unlimited resources and therefore made industrialization unviable as it was easier to just make money on plantations. This scenario turns Spain into a super powerful state with zero issues when in reality it’d remain a backwards and overextended empire.

The wealth extraction that the colonies were entirely set up around ruined Spains ability to develop properly. Wow, I began seeing yoru videos a month ago and their are excellent, a very good explanation, a voice that is not robotic/ai generated and a lot of realism! 9/10 of realism, it was great and it makes a lot of sense that if these changes would have been made, spain wouldn't collapse or atleast would remain it's empire. As a latin american, I can say that the first rebellions were only to gain more autonomy within Spain (during 1810's) but after Spain denied that, and they poorly managed the war, the independentist ideas surged.

no. the independence wars were because of local elites wanting more power against peninsular spain, and they were backed by the british who wanted those lands for themselves, in fact argentina was part of the unofficial british empire.

I'd say it's a 7 or an 8 on realism, because some things were just tricky and random but one other thing, which is the landtaking from Germany after the lost war, is quite different to my first expectation

Thanks to Spains commonwealth, Britain forms the Imperial Federation. and France, Russia Italy and maybe even Portugal keeps Brazil by Turning into a Commonwealth or Federation too.
Only one mistake the British weren’t selling them a Cruiser but rather a Dreadnaught Battleship that was supposed to enter the Ottoman fleet but with the outbreak of war became HMS Agincourt

If they had neutralized Argentina around 1810 there would be no territorial losses, The Mexican War of Independence was neutralized for the first 3 most violent years, after that they would just have to wait

Suggestion: What If Poland Lithuania Never Got partitioned? Basically in this world Austria And maybe Prussia protect Poland with especially Austria getting a Habsburg Candidate to become leader and in return of the alliance Austria Would Give Up The Polish majority of Galicia (Not Ukrainian Though) and with this I would see that Russia has minor expansion into the Baltics and Ukraine (So Like Just A little Bit Weaker Poland Than Before The Partitions) With this I would say Either during the Austro Prussian Wars Russia invades Poland While Austria's distracted leaving Poland To Fall In Russian Hands (most likely most territories become a puppet government) Or a later Hungarian Uprising in Austria Russia invades and a compromise comes with the borders from the 3rd partition.
Seems like a great idea, I can do that in the future, as now I don't have enough knowledge on that topic!

Alright, so there are some mistakes that I have to fix (sorry but I literally study Spanish history). So It doesn't really matter if you call the Viceroyalties colonies or not, the Spanish Empire wasn't really a "traditional state" as it was called "the Spanish Monarchy" the Viceroyalties were part of the Crown so they already had a large degree of autonomy. The wars of independence were just a ploy of the creole elites to take power (since the Bourbons started to tax heavily on the elites), most of the people living there and the natives supported the Crown but since the peninsula was demolished by the French and British invasions it didn't have the economic power to rearm the military (plus most of the wealth was in America), also during the wars of independence the British sent troops to help the rebels, but they also looted the royal haciendas (where all the gold and silver was storaged) and they also destroyed the proto-industry that Spain already had. The rest is pretty much legit (if we count it's alternate history), the Constitution of 1812 would have been enough to keep the Viceroyalties loyalty so yeah, good job.
Also, Spain would have probably recovered economically way faster if the Viceroyalties didn't get their independence and there wasn't political instability. Spain (by this I mean the entire empire) would have probably become the second global power after Britain (since it had a massive quantity of resources).

On the realism meter, I rate it a 7-8/10. While, as expressed in the video, we assumed some things that are not guaranteed like an earlier end to institutionalized racism in America ending under an extended Lincoln, the overall outcome is pretty reasonable all things considered. Spain had a more powerful navy RL than the USA until 1880's or around then. So imagine if they kept their empire .
In the war of 1898 it was stronger, corruption was what caused them to lose property.

One thing i didn't get was why spain would willingly give land to the US and the US, Florida, since it's so geographically stategic, maybe louisiana. The adam onis treaty was a one and done deal bc it formerly set the borders and prevented US expansion its why they didn't renew a version of this with Mexico irl. The one big flaw is not taking into account the rise of industrial wealth redistribution. Out of curiosity, what would be the position of your "Nuevo Imperio Español" in terms of business interests coming to the fore? If these companies are allowed the same ability to wield influence as they were in the US and Britain, there might be decisions made where Spanish business entities pushed the Empire into taking actions that would knock the scenario off target. If that's addressed at some point (i.e., more worker considerations taken into account more quickly than they had been in America and the UK), you'd still be on track with this.
Otherwise, this was pretty good.

The viceroyalty of New Spain didn't want a constitutional monarchy. The "independence" movement started as an uprising against the Napoleonic represantatives, thats what father Miguel Hidalgo meant by "death to bad government". Bad government as in the revolutionary and democratic ideals of the French Revolution and Napoleonic Code. In fact the uprising had mostly died down by 1814 when the Spanish Constitution was repealed, but it picked back up in 1820 when it was reinstated and this time it was backed by the Mexican-Spanish elites and former generals in the Royalist army like Agustin de Iturbide and Lopez de Santa Ana. They were willing to make Ferdinand of Spain the Emperor of Mexico, similar to how Franz Josef would later be Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, but the major sticking point was that Mexico should remain an absolute Monarchy. However since Ferdinand took to long to reply, Agustin was temporarily appointed Emperor, and by the time the Spanish constitution was repealed in 1823 and Ferdinand was finally willing to take action the Mexican monarchy collapsed and became a republic.

8/10, In WW1 Spain would probably get Gibraltar as a reward from the UK, and i think that Croatia would get indipendance and that Vojvodina would have been given to Serbia.
I think that the subject of Japan was not touched on in the video, since the Japanese empire, regardless of whether it entered World War I or not, would still have expansionist desires in East Asia and would still see the Western colonies as their target to take, which probably if there is World War II. Japan will bring both Spain and the United States into it.
If it wasn't forced to open to foreigners the japanese empire might not exist even.
