Yo bro, I have some tips that will make the lawn mower faster. I think you know this already, but incase you didn't here are some tips:
I am assuming that you haven't modified the engine yet. I would suggest doing that to increase rpm/power. I think the main reason you cannot hit the 70mph goal is because the governor in the engine is not allowing you to, and removing the governor would remove this restriction and allow you to reach a higher rpm and top speed. Be careful tho, cuz the engine's internal components aren't meant for higher rpms you'll get from removing the governor, so you'll need stronger parts such as flywheel, connecting rods, and heavier valve springs. I would also suggest better carburetors so you have plenty of airflow and fuel.
Good luck with the lawn mower, its a powerful ass motor, and I bet i can go extremally fast when modified. I will be following along this build as It's really cool.
BTW, a FULLY built 690cc could get you 70 hp. Check out Red Beard's Garage, he built a supercharged predator 670cc.

Alright partner i gotta few suggestions for ya if you wanna hear'm! new coils, and magnets on the flywheel, 0.2 - 0.5 mm thick washers so you can file them down to work as bushings really that's temporary to get the slap outta the wheel. OH and making a cowl induction system is so easy on these briggs and strap on motors just tap screw a big ass air inlet lmao! Hope these help you in someway, they did my 19.5 hp wonders.
im open to any tips and tricks to make that opposed briggs stronger

Hey with mine I put a string on the piece that you adjust for the idle and it goes 20 factory so try to do that and you just pull the string for it to go faster

I have an mtd fnr transaxle, do I need the variable speed double pulleys and how would I hook them up in a normal tractor cuz I want a reasonable speed
the double pulleys are great for high speeds but its so difficult to find a proper belt setup ! it either slips at high speed or doesnt stop going foward because its to tight ! its like if there isnt a perfect setup for the double pulleys

Maybe try a racing mower belt drive system that runs the belt straight from the engine shaft to a pulley fixed to the rear axle. You would have to find a way to rotate the belt 90 degrees, but it's easier than it sounds and if done right it'll be way more reliable than the current setup.

Btw the reverse gear is what always causes it to break so I recommend you take out the reverse gear to get more live out of the transaxle

You can put a cvt system from a automatic atv or snowmobile on a lawnmower make it so u have a natural so u can start it without being in gear and have more acceleration and tip speed that way and from the cvt use a chain and sprocket setup instead of belt so no chance of slip or blowing the belt off.... the youtubers "Cars and Cameras" was making a racing mower and they did this I recommend checking them out

need to ditch that whole belt system. Get an mst 206 from a craftsman 6 speed, they're oil filled. I hit 61 mph on my mower with an 8.25 in the front and a 3.5 in the rear, normal clutch. I had a 27 hp vtwin but your opposed twin should make it no problem.

the reason you could not get faster with the twin is because it is a flat head. is also why you thought it had more power at the lower rpm because they do. but the single cylinder is a over head valve. thats where your higher rpm power is coming from and why it will go faster.

Our class built a 21hp stock mower and made it go 68mph just from swapping the tranny and small stuff
And having straight pipe damages your valves and gives less power so putting a different exhaust might give more juice
Mm, having straight pipes causes a lean condition which will cause valve damage and loss of power, which can be rectified by installing larger jets.

also there is a 3 speed trans you can get for these they are fully manual but the shifter mounts where you can look down and see your belts might be a solution to you breaking parts in the back and having to change sprockets.just a thought lol@@MisterdionneYT

If you get rid of those rough groove tires which is slowing it down and put some smooth tread tires are even instead of go kart slicks on it I guarantee you you will get 70 to 80 mi an hour out of this thing remember tires are a factor as well Ohio fast something Will Go on pavement

You need to remove the governor, you will get way more rpm and power, which equals more speed

That part over taking the truck I was like, this can go bad very quickly.
Also, maybe wire up your light bar or some type of light if you plan on riding when it is dark.

u need more power in the motor your hitting valve float throw 50lb valve springs in the motor and throw a mikuni 40mm round slide carb on the motor (snowmobile carb) and remove the governor out of the engine and the mower will reach 60+ mph almost there

Its an opposed twin they dont rev high you want a v twin
they rev up to 8000rpm
Gotta be cautious with cast iron flywheels. They will blow apart with the constant high rpm.
Honest i jist think you cant get to a high enough rpm with your gearing and tire size to hit 70. If you built up the 14.5hp motor (Built aluminum connecting rod and flywheel with forged piston, stiffer valve springs and flat slide carburetor as well as some porting) to rev higher and make the same 20 or more hp i think youd be able to get 70. The 14.5 hp motor is alot lighter and would only get lighter with those modifications. I cant say it would be cheap but then again making more power never is!
