How much land do we have in Portugal?

  • We decided to make two videos of the property because the house tour was already getting long. This is the land tour of our property showing everything that is on it. We also talk about some of the things we will add to the land in the future like chickens, more fruit trees, and possibly a pond.
    The land is just over 3,000 m2 which should be more than enough to do all the things we wish to do in the future. What do you think of the property? Is it too big or too small? How would you organize the land?
    Leave a comment below and let us know what you think of the land and if you haven't seen the house yet, you can watch that video here: • We bought a 213 year o...

    Hope you let the neighbors continue to use the land while you work on the house. Exchange veggies for rent. Trying to do both, house and land would be a bit much

      Yes, we think the land will be enough. It feels like a lot and it will be fun to work and learn how to grow crops on it.

    Welcome to Portugal. 🎉 Me and my wife are watching every video. If you have questions about anything in Portugal please feel free to ask. I recognise that mountain range as i live on the other side of it. Hope you guys take some time to visit the area and share you thoughts about it. Cheers. 👍

      Thanks for the support! I'm sure we'll have lots of questions as we continue on this adventure. I'm impressed that you recognize the mountains! Once we're a bit more settled, we will definitely explore the area and country.

    The wiring along the garden pathway to the house is for grapevines, or vines for peas (grandfather’s garden had them) or flowers. Check you local green house growers. Sometimes local markets sell plants also. Anxiously watching from Canada❤Make grape jam or jellies

      Awesome to have you here! We believe there were more grape vines in the past and hopefully we can add more or use the pathway for something else.

    I love STONES and the TILES used to build the house, solid and keeps the inside cooler in summer. I tough there was a second floor from the inside visit. Did I dream, or just not obvious from the outside? Your water plans are really a must, tiles are the best to collect water.
    I was curious to know if you will start the babies. (feel free to ignore)

      There are 3 stories to the house, the main level is what we showed and the upstairs/attic area. We didn't show the storage area or ground floor. No plans for children.

    Citrustree roots, I read they possible keep close to houses n underground pipes because the citrustree adopt to how much space it has in the ground and do not break pipes. I dont know if it really is so its maybe smght you can read too about. Compared to appletrees that will grow big n break pipes in ground can not grow next to such installations.

    • @RootsandRestorations
      @RootsandRestorations  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good to know, we will have to look into it and see if we can keep the tree there.

    • @ElisLud-yu6ph
      @ElisLud-yu6ph หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its very difficult change place of citrustrees because if the roots are impacted in any way the tree will go into transplantation chock n loss a lot of leaves n so on. I only have citrustrees in pots n its difficult repot even such small citrustrees cz if 1 root falls of then it start to shed leafs. Maybe it also depends on what sort of citrustree. I think if you want to save the growing citrustree then its best keep it where it is since its roots adopt to not expand and break pipes. But read about it because I am not professional on this.

    • @RootsandRestorations
      @RootsandRestorations  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Okay, sounds like we should look into it more. Thanks for the information. Better to looking into more before we lose the tree, because we really like lemons!

    70% self-sufficient and rebuild that house at the same time while living in a new country and filming and editing for YT? yeap, a bit delusional :) Maybe you could get there if you focus on the land but otherwise, just look at other YT channels that wanted to do the same. Time will fly and in no time you guys will see that. I really do wish you the best of luck, no matter how long it takes you because you've taken the first and most important step which is to start. :)

      New subscriber - ignore the negative Nancy’s 😂. My wife. And I have been homesteading in San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years. We spend a lot of time in China with her family when I’m not teaching and debating as to whether to try out hand homesteading in China part time on her families rural land in Hubei province. Portugal is awesome it has growing climate very similar to Northen CA. Homesteading is awesome !

Best of luck, I’m in my sixties and have done house restoration/addition in the past, everything takes twice as long and costs twice as much, you will need lots of patience and good communication with each other, best of luck and look forward to following!
