Like a Dj producer, chop it up. The idea is to take a 4-8 bar beat & rearrange it. May also help to pitch your kit or at least your snare higher to emulate a sample that's been sped up.
JOSH!!!!! C'mon... Obviously Jo Jo... But since James Brown and his drummers are the blueprint to Jungle/D&B that was covered but England took it to hyper speed we gotta represent the KINGS of that scene Richard Spaven and Yusef Dayes.
I don't know where it originated from, but listen to the end of Helter Skelter by The Beatles. (when the song fades out the second time) I hear that a lot in Drum'n'Bass.
I need work on that double single stroke with a louder second stroke - that's a DnB staple and I've developed a bad (but maybe good?) work around by taking my right hand off the cymbal. Thanks for the tutorial!
@@ericzulic03 Ha! Thanks for keeping me in check - I've been slacking on practicing. I've got it down at slower tempos, but when I ramp up past 120 it's out of control... Need more practice.
Do you have a playlist of the drummers you mentioned? If you make one, I’ll separate the drums so we can dissect them and label these terms. If I get time, I’ll write out some notation and put it on my GitHub and link back to this video.
Loved it : the history, the references, the playing and ideas. What sounds great as well: any time you play a "ghost + backbeat" combo on the snare, play a group of 3 sixteenths on the hh with the right hand, starting with the accented backbeat. These triple strokes really are next level for Drum&Bass, Uptempo/bebop jazz, fusion, funk.. I actually shot a quick video a few years back which will illustrate what I'm talking about : th-cam.com/video/8rFv94uAxp8/w-d-xo.html
Literally, I keep studying this video slow then full speed trying to figure that by watching. Lol but it's like a weird rim shot combo. It hits the head first time then the second it's a hit into a quick shot for the 3rd.
So happy to hear Ian Maciak getting some love. He’s one of my favorites, highly underrated only for lack of exposure
Big up the uk dnb ragga jungle squad .......RICHARD SPAVEN

Instagram hates artists. I don't want to go there :(
What the fuck are all those accents called? How am I supposed to practice that? What should I even look for?
