    One of us here is suggesting to level the tribrach first on the tripod before you put a Station on top. It sounds like a good idea for beginners, so if you are using the Station for first time it might be good to follow the practice before you get confidence.

      Hi Zerai! Sorry for late answer. Very happy you like it. The set up is assuming the points are provided as in real life. In my day in the life video you can see how I set new targets as well. Typically the base reference points will be provided on site and then you will work your way setting new ones etc.

    Greg.
    Another fine video and congratulations.
    Just couple of points as below.
    1: If you set the Height of the Total Station to zero then the coordinate of the set station does not give the level of the ground you are standing on. Or does it not matter. If you now survey the ground around you with the laser or the prism then you are still recording the true level of the target area because the instrument is using the height as set form the resection target station. Please confirm that this is the case. That you are recording the height of the instrument from the resection and not the level of the ground.
    2: The prism set for resection is an open laser on tape or flat surface. Please confirm as you was too fast for me to catch it.
    3: Could you have set the resection set-up from the Total Station instead of from the Controller.
    4: What is the maximum value of the discrepancy or the quality value of the resection acceptable on TS15. Is is under 4mm maximum or much shorter then this. Please confirm.

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Asim!
      1. Station is based on targets height and is the 'real' height of the instrument so whatever you're measuring edm shows you correct height of it.
      2. For resection I am using reflectorless and then 'tape', but sometimes 'surface' as well when edm can't read the retro target. Constant is the same for both, but if possible I am setting target as what I really measure.
      3. Yes, you can, as I said in one of my last videos some people setting station first keeping the control job in the instrument and than connecting with robotic keeping the working jobs there. It depends entirely on you really, I just got used to use robotic from the start :)
      4. This depends on you really and on the job you're doing. If for instance you are to roughly mark area for your future works to know how to plan the job it might be even 10mm, but if doing setting out for the construction elements I am keeping this within 3mm. I personally think more than 5mm error shows that the base targets are not 100% right which might cause problems later as each transfer of these brings more error.
      I hope above answers your questions Asim :)
      All the best!
      Greg

    I appreciate that we all do it from time to time, however, please level your tribrach with the instrument in the box. When fairly level, now place the instrument in the tribrach and fine adjust.
    There are people out there that will be lifting and dropping tripod legs with an instrument on top. It's a very expensive recipe for disaster.
    I was always taught this and teach it to any juniors I work with.

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I won't be doing this way, but if you like it why not :) In general instrument has to be set in 'safest' place possible and this extra minute for levelling won't change much. I appreciate your advice and recommend all you guys try it and see how do you prefer to work :)

    • @theboycalledleaf
      @theboycalledleaf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SITENG "if you like it why not"?
      I told you why not. After 28 years in the field, I would not do this. Don't be idle, level your tribrach first, then put the instrument on. You're encouraging someone to topple a tripod over that wasn't level and has an expensive instrument on the top. Why encourage people to be gentle with the instrument when you're encouraging bad practice?

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theboycalledleafI didn't get you first, you mean the beginner engineers? You might be right actually for the people without any experience - I'll pin the comment :) First of all I am teaching to set the tripod quite level so you don't need to move the legs really, but I admit this is a good idea and thank you for this - good practice for beginner (although sometimes they have more problems with taking the tribrach on and off and I am afraid of them dropping the instrument before it's installed ;) Thank you again and I hope we will get more comments like yours so we can all get better!

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darko! Hard to say, but max. few hundreds meters. Depending on the job really, but typically I keep them closer if I can. Sometimes on surrounding buildings if there is a need. Distances from the station to stake out points are much smaller as I am setting the TS usually close to the points I am marking 😁
