    Omg, someone finally said the angle thing that I totally agree with. Verticals are also better in terms of easily getting immersed in the game. Because the screen is higher than the buttons and your fingers, it is easier to ignore them in your field of view.

    I'm so glad finally someone mentioned how having the screen above the hands instead of between them just feels nicer on the arms and neck. • @KangKoopa
      @KangKoopa 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      People are complaining because the joystick doesn't work properly. If you think about it... yes, that kinda sucks to pay 80 dollars just to find out it didn't work for 90% of the time. Don't get foolish and buy something just because a silly character told you so. Make your own decisions and make sure you look up information.

    • @alechemy
      @alechemy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Having so many choices sounds great, but quality suffers.
      Anbernic and other retro handheld companies seek profit and headlines by pushing out new hardware practically every month. They quickly abandon their prior handhelds, have shoddy QA, and make very limited improvements with each release.
      I would rather they slow down, listen to customer feedback, and release meaningful variants a few times a year.

      @@alechemyYou don’t know how their business model works. They are not making high end handhelds, and they are making good business with releasing new products all the time.
      If you are not happy with their business get your handhelds somewhere else or wait for them to release one you are happy with.
      The fact is they are making better products than where the price point is. The 35xx Plus alone is a classic product that people are gonna enjoy decades from now that would have been 3x more expensive had it been sold by Ntendo

    I remember being emulation handheld curious many years ago and looking into the GP2X, JXD, and some others. I didn’t pull the trigger on them because of cost, ugly OS’s, limited emulation support, and support trade-offs. The closest I ever got was a modded PSP, GBA ROM cart, modded PSP, and modded Vita. Those all had controller, resolution, and emulation tradeoffs that made them not quite right. The Vita was the best of the bunch.
    Today I use the Steam Deck and the RG355XXSP and I’m curious about the Retroid Pocket 5.
    The point is, we used to have awful portable emulation options and now there’s a good one for every day of the week! I say, keep them coming

      It looks similar to it and that's about it. People are mostly ordering Analog Pockets due to the fact that its FPGA, and that they can use physical cartridges. The screen and picture quality is A LOT better than these devices, its like day and night. It also gives you the ability to replicate the look of original hardware like the GBA AGS-101 for example. Its hardware emulation as well, meaning you're running hardware emulated GBA, SNES, Arcade, Genesis etc.

    Now that they're announced the RP5 I wish that Retroid would take a page out of Anbernic's book and announce a Flip 2 using the RP4 chipset and software.

    • @BobbysArchive
      @BobbysArchive 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Imo that shouldn’t even be considered taking a page out of Anbenic’s book, it’d just be a smart decision given the oversaturated brick market. There’s only 3 choices of clamshell’s on the market and absolutely nobody would be able to compete with the RP Flip 2 performance to price ratio. Nobody’s even competed with the Original Flip. I’ll never stop bugging them for a Flip 2.

    If you already have one of these then I can see it being frustrating that there isn't something actually new that's coming out. But if you don't and you're just getting into the space the options where it's just the shape size and looks that's different and you don't need to worry about the internal power could be really appealing to someone getting started

    Mine showed up yesterday. I was hopeful I'd like it... It's actually NICER than I'd hoped? The slimmer back buttons, the joystick being moved in a bit, the all white color, the screen, etc etc etc. This is coming from a 351v among other devices, as well as being a vertical fanboi. Even the stock OS is pretty good? I'm really impressed with this one. I'm looking forward to getting Knulli on it and for Knulli to fix the cardinal snapping on the stick, but so far that hasn't been that big of an issue for me.
    The only bummer for me is that the 406v was announced before mine could even get to me. I own the 405v and I've never warmed up to it. Part of it is the color choices (I love all white). Part of it was the amount of tinkering needed for PS2/GC. I'll be ordering the 406v when available and selling my 405v. I do feel though that they'll be a nice pair? 40xxV for linux/lower end gaming. 406v for android/higher end. I know anbernic is constantly pushing out options which I actually think is great. I'm just shocked they went vertical with the next "6" and not a smaller horizontal, especially after the retroid pocket announcement. Yes the 556 exists but it's 16:9, a 406m or p would be a direct competitor to the mini. The cube is close I suppose.

    Haven't bought an emulation handheld in probably fifteen years, almost got the sp version since the sp was a favorite growing up, but I think the four inch screen is what won out for me; I'll see in a few days how much I like it.

    I agree with this. If the performance is the same across them all. Then its just a form factor choice. Instead of saying. "I wish they put the cpu from their last device in this form factor i really like" though i do wish they did a road map of all the devices for the year.

    I think it's great that Amberlic have released so many options based on the same chipset. Something for everyone. It's also great as it makes it easier for the community to work on third party operating systems.
    I think it would be great if they took this same approach and released a range of portables based on a mid tier chipset that could play more.

    It's really refreshing to hear a TH-camr praising vertical handhelds. Everybody is always bitching about their crampy little fingers. You Sir are a treasure, both fun and informative. Anyway, I vote for more vertical models to choose from. I've just bought a woodgrain RG405V a couple of days before they announced 406 but I'm not sorry because I hate those joystick lights and no woodgrain option is also a no-no for me. I would also buy this because I like linux more than android, but I already have an RGB20SX.

    Was gonna go with the rgCubexx but ended up ordering this instead, my first retro handheld!! The 1:1 by one screen for pico-8 would've been nice but I think this 4:3 screen will do me just fine, and it'll be better for super nintendo too (not a fan of 8:7 snes personally )!!! :)

    I think that most reviewers miss the point of the "analog stick". It is true that it behaves more like an arcade joystick than that an analog stick, but I believe that it the idea. This handhelds are targeted for retrogaming, so, there are lot more arcades emulators and games respect to N64, DC and PS1. Actually, an analog stick is not require for most PS1 games, so an arcade like stick behave better for PS1 games. So, the only consoles that lose some control accuracy are N64 and DC, yet both are enjoyable, and playing arcade games with that arcade joystick like stick is fabulous. That stick deserves recognition.

    My only problem with Anbernic is they keep releasing the devices with a sub-par stick(s). It's a known problem they could be easily fixed. I know I could probably change the stick(s), but that's an extra cost, a hassle and it should have already have been a good stick out of the box. Why make a device with that stick(s) if it doesn't work well with the games that are best played with them?

    Personally, I love all the choice in device form factor (even if it means I'm tempted to buy a new one every month). All I need now is for Anbernic to make a 4 inch vertical handheld with pixel perfect GBA scaling and my dream handheld will be a reality

    Now, I'm confused with Bazzite. 5:23, where are the Sony handhelds? The best form factor is a nice 5.5in horizontal screen like the Odin 2 mini.

    As a person who buys these to review before selling Anbernic handhelds it sucks that they come out with a new one every month. So I have to pick & choose what I want to sell.

    I started this hobby in 2020 as many others and now I have over 20 of them. That apart from psp, vita, 2ds xl and steam deck. I am happy, but battery health and related fire hazard concerns me as well. As for rg40xx I didn't get one since I have my 405v. I call it DreamStation64 btw since I mostly play ps1, dreamcast and n64 on it
