She would because the only thing more important than money is family, and if Fran had stolen her aunt slash Sylvia's sister-in-law's fiance the family would have likely disowned them, either publically or under their breathes while asking for cash favors.
Remember when Fran was dating the Temple worker who was going to become rich a famous working for Max? Sylvia wasn't impressed her daughter would be dating or marrying a rich actor, and instead warned her not to go through with it because it would get the family blackballed.
