If perfect inaction is the perfect type of action, than imperfect action cannot be better by definition. If inaction is not considered an action, then there is nothing to compare it to, therefore inaction cannot be perfect, or at least it is unnecessary to state that.

@@sabin1618 frfr, but not like for small goals - they're quick and pretty easy to do although, let's admit it, they are very insignificant. Big goals require a lot of courage, time, dedication. The mere thought of that deflects us from going towards just because we see that from our supposed starting point they're impossible to do. I don't really know real people that just decided to do something big and consiously took the required steps, they rather vaguely approached their goal by doing a lot of random decisions that somewhat made them achieve something great. On paper, yeah it does sound pretty easy, but it doesn't take in the little factors of real life that work as a main opposing force of reaching our goals. For this reason I would like to say that this video bears some nice theoretical info, but not entirely practical.

So first get happy without having or achiving anything, and as a happy person you will achive things way easier, without even trying. They fall in your lap. Also beeing a happy person makes everything relativ, you dont care to much about material stuff - most people chase for money and career, cause they miss something inside - and not for mental health and wellbeeing. I’m not saying this to discourage you, but given that you’re working two jobs and paying off a huge mortgage, the last thing I’d want to see happen would be for you to invest your precious money into a business idea and lose everything as a result. That would mean that your first actions should include developing coping skills to overcome these mental barriers. Doing something, even the littlest thing, will get you what you want someday. One day I woke up and looked at my life. Heck I'm 18 now and I haven't developed a skill that I always wanted to, people younger than me have learned to draw or are masters at guitar.
I always wanted to make music, make art, and add a little bit of uniqueness in my not so interesting life.
So lately I've started to map out what I need to achieve those and what I can do.
I'm pretty good at math, so I've planned on tutoring to earn myself some money to afford what I need, like guitar equipment or a better drawing tablet.
Tutoring would also be a great way for me to interact with other people more often, it makes my life more eventful.

A personal tip from me is to make sure you don't get too sidetracked; even if the tutoring business is something you genuinely want to do, make sure you're practicing drawing before you have the money to get the equipment. You'd be surprised how much you can do with a pen and paper! (I do recommend pen to start, as it prevents you from perfectionism/constantly erasing "mistakes")

I've found this video about a week ago, when I fist watched it everything you said made sense but it didn't stick with me, just like the tens of other videos like this that I've watched, today I remembered this video and gave it another watch, while taking notes this time, and something inside my brain just clicked, all of the goals that I've set for myself after getting out of school were very broad, so I ended up not achieving them and on most occasions just quietly giving up on them. I was initially going to share my notes here on this comment but I think that would defeat the purpose of them, nowadays we don't usually spend time actually thinking about what we do and the content that we watch, I only realized this because I spent some extra time writing notes about the video and then cleaning them up while not doing anything else. Throughout the last year or so I've been trying to achieve some goals, again goals that were not well defined, and I failed a lot, I've watched a lot of videos like this one and most of them shared the same basic ideas: "Be mindful of what you do and actually do something rather than nothing even if you fail you'll have learnt something", I think defining clear goals was the missing piece, so thank you for sharing your ideas and methods, I'll give them a shot, even if I fail I will have learned some things.

I treat life exactly the same as a video game. When you try to throw a grenade through a tiny window and blow yourself up, immediately laugh about it, load your last save and try something else. Some parts of the game you might fly through, others might take 100 attempts - kinda like dark souls. Again, similarly to dark souls, the boss that 99% of people struggle with for a week might be the one you breeze through on your second attempt, while the "easy" one according to others might be the bane of your existence. The game of life offers different challenges to everyone, but we can all play it and enjoy the process if we choose to.,

The thing is - I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. In most areas where I focus my attention, like job or gym or whatever - it is pretty straight forward, and mistakes are obvious. But when it comes to dating - I'm stumped. There are so many variables that go into it that it's impossible for me to figure out the common denominator. To be fair - this goal is not "life or death" for me. I am quite content with myself, so I don't bend my very being in order to have a partner. And from what I can see, a lot of people date out of desperation. "Better to be with a man who abuses me than to be alone" is a common mentality. In my case - I will not settle down with just anyone, it needs to be a good fit for me. Not perfect, I'm not delusional, but something worth spending my time on. So in short - I want a relationship, but I'm not desperate, so it's not really going anywhere for now. But I also can't let go of it completely, because it feels wrong. Maybe that's the problem? Idk

    • @Tamaresque
      @Tamaresque 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

Maybe change your view from 'someone to settle down with' to 'a companion I feel comfortable with'. That removal of expectation will take the pressure off you and the person you're dating.
I was alone for a long time, took a gamble with online dating and found someone who it definitely NOT my 'type', but is generous, kind, funny, caring, etc. Sometimes you just have to be open to taking a risk, but always trust your gut.

@@Tamaresque I don't really expect a "lifetime soulmate" or whatever. I know that a lot of relationships go south after a few years, but that's fine by me. Plus as a bi dude in a very homophobic country, the amount of risk I take trying online dating is outstanding. It's rough out there for our folk

    • @jonaseggen2230
      @jonaseggen2230 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

I'm a 57 year old man who been in several relationships. However my last was the best as she is now my best friend. No one knows me better than her. She got a new boyfriend that I think is a really great guy so I'm not fooling myself and I'm content being single. I as everyone else have my dark times but this has nothing to do with not having a girlfriend or wife.
I Used to be shy and did not believe I would ever get into a relationship as I thought the chances of me falling in love with a person that would also fall in love with me would be terribly small. I also thought that the game people play is stupid and wondered why people could not be direct and honest.
A friend at the time, currently psychotic btw, sad to me something along the lines of this. Look around and watch the other guys. Do they look better than you? Are they more interesting? smarter? You must realize that everyone, also the cutest or what you consider the best person also have desires, are insecure in their own ways and want to be seen as who they really are. (inside everyone there is a small child that want's to be seen. have you noticed how couples sometimes talk baby language to each other? It's about that).
Playing games is not necessarily dishonest as all animals play games for reasons. Mind you, we play games in all walks of life, (also when we are alone, my umbrella is still a sword) and It's a way to find out more about the other, but also about yourself. For a girl it is more important to test the guy than it is for him to test her, and it's more important for a guy to be somewhat secure for a relationship to work, maybe unless she is much older than him.
All games require practise though so you have to start of by striking conversations with others. It's scary and you will probably lose a lot in the beginning, so set your first goal to be just managing to talk to that person and not being afraid of appearing stupid. We are all stupid and make fools out of ourselves from time to time but the best are not afraid to laugh of themselves and therefore easier to hang out with.
Don't use dating apps (particularly bad for women) and don't make sharp distinctions between a date, flirting or anything else. Better practicing with people on youtube than apps. Try to find people who share some interests by taking part in activities you like. Hiking, art courses, yoga, taking photos or playing an instrument in the streets, whatever people do other than looking at screens. Try to not look at your phone in social settings. Better then to read a book because that is attractive.
Today, still not interested in a new relationship but flirt because it's fun, giving people compliments (both men and women). As long as you are not pushy or needie most people like to be liked by others, even if the other is not attractive to them. There can be an erotic tension and sparks without two people actually wanting to take it further. The tension can be fun in itself. But probably not so fun for younger people though.
Hope it's something here you can use.

    • @iluxa-4000
      @iluxa-4000 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@jonaseggen2230 the thing is - I don't feel attracted to anyone by looks alone. So I very, very rarely have a desire to talk to someone randomly that I don't know yet. From what I've gathered in my 26 years of life - most people strike up a conversation with someone of the opposite sex (or the same sex if they swing that way) because there is sexual interest, something in the looks catches people's attention and they decide to strike a conversation. That is not for me. I do find some people quite hot, but there's no burning desire inside, I don't care about looks in that sense. What attracts me and turns me on is actions, behaviour, what people say and how they say it, internal stuff. That's why I met a lot more friends and relationships in like twitch chats or random online groups than irl or even on dating sites (I don't use them anymore). And I know that to a certain extent looks are a mirror of the soul, but it's like a window in a mansion - you can see inside, but barely anything is covered.
If I feel attracted to someone, I don't really have any problems approaching them. It's scary, yes, but nothing crazy really. But it never really led anywhere. And as I said - it's so rare for me to be interested in a random person.
And I think it's too late for me honestly. I am not quite content with being single for all my life, but I'm getting there. I didn't fit in right, and that's something that happens to some people. It sucks, probably more than anything, but that's how things are. Without basically any experience, being as shy and introverted as I am, when everybody else already has "the game" figured out - there's no real chance of me meeting someone.
The worst part of it all is - I know that what I imagine isn't true. That not all relationships are sunshine and rainbows, that not everyone already had massive experience in dating, there are a lot of people like me who never really tried. There are many things that I know for a fact, but the feeling that I'm missing out, the feeling that I am a loser because I never had a gf - the pain is real. We all struggle with different parts of life, and this is my burden to carry

    • @jonaseggen2230
      @jonaseggen2230 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@iluxa-4000 Introverted people in general communicate better with one person than in a group. Group talk becomes to superficial or shallow. There is however possible to be introvert and extrovert in different contexts. I was bullied and shy and afraid to speak or express myself in groups, and whenever I found a group or people who liked and or accepted me, I was still, and still is an outsider. Today however I have no problem being different and visible, something that makes me attractive to other types of people.
For a man 26 is not old and when I was 50 my last ex stumbled into my life. The first woman I had some kind of relationship was rather older than me I she though me a lot about women. I started with music/piano at 40, something that changed my life for the better rather much.
I hope you will find other environments or milieu where other sides of you will be recognized and you can thrive.
We are all like plasticine, moldable and even the most self sustained of us need others. There are no sigma people.
It is something about expectations, that when we are most content and not really searching for anyone, they are more likely to stumble into our life.
I agree that most people who strike a conversation with a stranger of the opposite sex (or whatever), are looking for a partner or sex, but not always. If you tell people who you are, that you are shy and talking to strangers makes you insecure, you will appear as aware and self conscious and thus stronger or more mature.
People doing things are more attractive than consumers and I think for an introvert person in particular to find activities that involves others is important. Like say a course in cocking or whatever. Here in Norway many people go hiking in the mountains to find someone, but unfortunately for women, there are not that many guys doing the same.
These days people at your age, extrovert or not seems more lonely to me. Maybe to do with social media, other crap the internett or other medias push into our heads or maybe to do with families shrinking. More and more people grow up with only one parent, something that has a different effect on boys and girls. We are all broken though as we live in an artificial world.
But play. Ask silly questions, try to have fun. For me thinking about the grander scale of things, the size and age of the universe can sometimes be helpful. Problems become smaller and as everything is pointless really, I create my own purposes. Doing something that feels right, like planting a tree or care for others, talking to a beggar or an old lonely lady sitting there feeding birds helps them but also strengthen my self esteem.

  • @RocketVet
    @RocketVet 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

Only catch about that last example though is that your reputation is ruined - you aren’t likely going to be trusted again in the same field (or any business you build) at that point and will have to choose a new goal in life. The analogy to the games: most games you can simply retry a level, or have infinite continues.. in life you can fail and fail for good, game over. You can’t just reset the level and most failures don’t reset someone back to square one, it sets them back further than where they started and ups the difficulty on a level they are already struggling to beat. I work with a lot of clients that have made mistakes and become incarcerated and unfortunately that means now the max potential where they can get in life is drastically lowered, and the difficulty to pass the same level as someone else is now exponentially more difficult. We have to carefully calculate the risk vs rewards in life because some things you only get one shot and can’t afford to fail.

A good way to improve your goal is to make them "Smart".
S - Specific (Exactly what is your goal? You want to be rich but how will you do this? Will you run a company? What would you sell?)
M - Measurable (How are you going to measure your progress? Think metrics such as revenue or other factors that can be consistently measured)
A - Achievable (Is your goal realistic to you? If not, can you break it down into smaller smart goals that contribute to your main goal?
R - Relevant (Why is this your goal? Where does it place in the bigger picture? Does your goal matter to and motivate you?)
T - Time Bound (A goal needs a timescale for you to work in, when do you want to achieve this goal? Is there enough time to fit all the smaller tasks?)

I think there is a point here that must be adressed: Why do we want the things we want?
People drift aimlessly through life because they are not very aware of their own desires, and they suppress their greed on the wrong things until it comes back to bite them at the worst times. A person will rationalize how they don't have the money to start a new hobby, learn a new skill or start a business, or even save money in a fund (which i think is the least productive of these options), but they will spend hundreds on gambling, nice clothes, apparel and nights out. Many people live gritting their teeth surviving day to day, and then when they get a bit of freedom they blow it all on something that makes no lasting impact on their life. The rule is not to just set clear goals, but to also seek only clear desires.
"Everyone wants to be rich", but what would that give you? If you were rich, say financially secure to the point you wouldn't need to think about basic living expenses what would you do? The answer to that question is the true desire that you have. Or maybe "being in shape", what do you want? Attention from the opposite sex? An ego boost? Are you going to the gym because you like lifting heavy weights? Or because you think that will make you feel better about yourself? See we are less independent in our desires than we think, and most of the common desires are actually cancerous, since they are so vague and vapid that you instantly lose motivation once you start working towards them.
Now the good desires and the ones you should try to have more of, are the ones that are the most easily comprehensible and straight in front of your face. Let's say you break a chair and need to fix it/get a new one. Do that immediately, since that's a clear goal and clear desire that you can immediately fulfill. Or maybe you hear about a new game that sounds interesting. Go watch the trailer and sleep a night and if you wake up thinking of that game, then buy it. If you don't have the money, think what you need to do to afford it, then do exactly that, and get that game. Now your brain has solved a problem and received a reward as fast as possible and you start to Pavlov's dog your own brain into solving shit and getting it done immediately. The best businessmen statistically aren't the most cautious, but the ones who take risks and do stuff constantly, and are also resilient to the inevitable setbacks that come from those risks.
Be a bit more impulsive, and go through with the stuff that you really want to do. Even if something seems impossible or frustrating it will feel amazing when you figure it out, just keep doing stuff and eventually it will work out. If you fail or burn out or need to take a break then do that and don't look back. When you get pissed off at yourself for sitting on a couch all day then start again. Skills and experience degrade really slowly once learned to a high enough degree. (And good tools last for a lifetime) The worst thing you can do is wait for the right opportunity, because time is the only thing that we are constantly spending.
Or maybe i am completely wrong and somehow ruining my own life, but this mentality of not looking back and constantly trying new things and doing challenging stuff has made me appreciate everything a lot more. On paper life is pretty similar with marginal improvement, but mentally it has made me a lot more free, when i don't have to worry if the next choice impacts me in 20 years or something, just pick what feels right in the moment and then face the consequences.

This year is the first time I've done something successfully for months, the clarity of the goal was huge, an additional thing I came to realize tho is that my goal constantly shifted if I wasn't paying attention. So I might say I need to post a weekly TH-cam video as part of this step of the process to practice that skill, but then I'd post and I should be proud but my goal subconsciously shifted to "I actually want views" and then I felt bad instead of accomplished cause obviously starting out you're unlikely to get a ton of views. So the lesson that's gotten me the most consistency in bouncing back is noticing my goals shifting and bringing it back to the original goal and reminding myself how that's more big picture important over how many views this one video gets

What does a person do if they're so burnt out, tired, and unfocused that they can't envision a goal? A goal of figuring out what your goal is is circular and nonspecific enough to be inactionable. Some of us need a sort of low level bootstrap process for how to at least get there.

A walk or making a meal from scratch good. You will fall down the stairs again, but now you know the staircase a bit better. We never reach our goals because when we get there we found other goals. The journey, life itself here and now is the real thing.

this is called manifesting. and to reach your goal, most of the time you just manifest it without even knowing its manifesting or realizing it is. the main point of manifestation is to KNOW your goal and shape your soul/mindset and maybe even body for it. and when you do this, you are on the right path of it. if you dont become the "person" that achieved your dream, then you most likely to be on very different paths with it, i am not talking about becoming someone "else". you still have to be "you". and "you" must obtain and analyze what your soul needs. sometimes what your instinct or biological nature wants is not what your soul actually wants. the trick of manifesting is to stay positive, learning, keep being yourself, loving yourself and ACTUALLY trying

If you need some written advice, I have some that may/may not help:
If you think you dont have a goal, you're wrong - you're drifting.
Just do it. Im not quoting Nike. I'm not asking. I'm telling you.
If you get tired, dont stop too soon. You're probably making at least some progress if you are.
Feel the burn, and use even that to get rest, gain stamina etc.
    Stop procrastinating.
    Re-affirm: your loyalties, priorities, weaknesses/strengths, needs/wants etc.
Re-evaluate people you're close to: e.g. so-called friends, family, colleagues, classmates etc.

To add, a lot of the problem is the mindset. If you're finding yourself say "I have to do X" every few minutes to motivate yourself, you're not going to last long. What you want to do is to weigh the difference of joy in setting on your behind to achieving your goal.
William Danforth in "I Dare You!" wrote about an interesting point similar to this. He had a Scottish friend who drank alcohol but hated the taste of it. Why did he drink it then? For the effect. In the same way, something like exercise can take you from feeling comatose, depressed, and powerless, and turn it around to make you feel like you can actually achieve things, be flexible, be much less moody and be much more confident in yourself. If you treat the pain of goals, exercise, and so on like a video game character drinking a bottle of alcohol to be more outgoing, you'll go much, much farther than you'll expect.
    Well-made video, by the way

I have 3 things I consider myself good at:
    Crocheting
    Fashion
    And music
I don’t want to crochet for a living, I want to be nothing more than just a hobby out of work.
I love fashion, creating cool outfits, see how my style has evolved over time, but man, I don’t like the fashion industry.
So the only thing I can remotely consider is pursuing music. Which I actually lied, I’ve never written or composed a song. But I feel like I may have a chance at getting good at it.
I have no idea what kind of music I want to make, which kinda fits my outlook on life. I don’t want to be categorised into a label just because. Whether it’s my looks, my behaviour, or my creations.
So just now, after I’ve literally had a mental breakdown about how there’s “no hope” in my life, I actually came to some kind of conclusion.
I’ve never been in this position where I’ve made a life choice i feel secure in. Maybe that’s just my tired brain but I think this may work. I just have to work on trusting the process… and maybe stop being so judgmental too…

I might be autistic, or at least, had very untrained social skills. After so much work and learning social skills and improving my physique from a tiny guy to a little above average muscles, I successfully got together with a total of 10 girls in three years.
Then I got a long term committed relationship with a daughter, but realized Ive been manipulated to give away all my money and also take a big loan for my ex fiance. Im not ruined, and I dont feel ruined despite the circumstances. Even got a bit chubby, and was fat at one point in the relationship. Weighed 81 kgs at my peak muscle to fat ratio, stopped working out, then got to 107kg... now I stoppad, or at least decreased, portion sizes, more brisk walks, cut out unhealthy foods.
Now I weigh 92 kgs, Im Improving my skills and knowledge and try to put it into actions to start a business and make money away from my full time job somehow. Also stay consistent on my other YT channels. Let's see how I will do. Slowly but surely, I'm getting back up on my feet.

my Longterm goal is to run a smoked meat roadside business. I want it to be just my smoker and I, selling to hungry people for dirt cheap. I did the math and most places are charging ALOT for food nowadays. Based off a 10lb bag of potatoes at Walmart, I can sell a 1/2Lb of French fries for just 86 cents and wouldn't be losing money. McDonalds is charging something like 4$ for a large. I can see how to be successful, but my problem as of right now is not having any free time to pursue it. I work full time and am going to school full time for electrical engineering. I work somewhere around 90hrs a week between the two. so what am I doing about it? I smoke or grill about 1 different thing a week. learning small lessons now that will help me be better at cooking once I go to sell it to people.

I took it out on the water once and I instantly regretted my decision for "wanting" this thing. I THOUGHT, I wanted it, but after experiencing it, I found out I didn't. Now, I look at things I want and always ask myself...do I really want that, or do I think I want that? It's usually just me thinking I want it.
A second example is boots. I was watching a TH-cam channel that did reviews on boots and I wanted boots as well. I went out to a boot store, tried on boots and found out that I actually don't like them. It was the idea that I wanted and not the actual thing. You'll more than likely find this to be true in your experience as well. A lot of things you think you want, you don't even really want.
So what I need to figure out now, is how to filter out what I want, compared to what I think I want.

Love the input you have shared. Life has a funny way of correcting us doesn't it?
in a way, finding out what you don't want is still moving you closer to what you do want. It's course correction. Do it for long enough and eventually you will get there. Make your best guess, act, analyze, adjust, repeat.
have you found what you think you want next?

I think about this all the time I see everyone around me act like the example in this video, theyre just lazy and unmotivated. You really can do anything, but youre not gonna get any further unless you pushit.

Why is a concept so simple... so profound. Idk why, but this hit me like a truck.

I've seen a lot of videos/tips etc. that follow the same logic as this one and I always thought: "Hey, thats some good advice, let's do that". But the more I think about it the more I start to question how and if this works for "normal" people. I came to the conclusion that I don't want anything that this strategy would work with. I just want to chill, spend time with friends, go on some adventures and maybe travel a little. In short I just want an easy and free life. I don't want money, fame or some other ambitious goal. But without money nothing I can't get the things I want or sustain them for a long time. A different society or world is what I need for that to happen. But I can't to anything to change that. So I will stick to the bare minimum to get the money I need to survive and do what I want as far as I can.
Do you guys think that my thinking is flawed or that it's maybe an indication for depression or something else? I'm honestly interested in your thoughts about this.

You don’t NEED to want anything. You don’t need to have a huge goal.
Not talking at you only sharing what I have found to work for me. When I don’t have something challenging me to be who I should / want to be.. I start going downhill.
But if you keep honest tabs on yourself then maybe a giant goal isn’t what you want and need .
Only way to find out is to act though
