Fighting between Cambodian government forces and resistance troops continued around a key Thai border post on Friday.
Forces loyal to Second Premier Hun Sen have been trying to move in closer on the last resistance stronghold at the border village of O'Smach.
The resistance - a combination of Khmer Rouge rebels and troops backing deposed First Premier Norodom Ranariddh - have successfully put off Hun Sen's men for more than a week now.
Government troops advanced once more to the frontline in northwestern Cambodia on Thursday in another effort to capture the last resistance stronghold, O'Smach, on the Thai border.
Heavy small arms fire was heard coming from about one-and-a-half kilometers (1 mile) inside Cambodia as men loyal to ousted First Premier Prince Norodom Ranariddh pushed back their opponents who support Second Premier Hun Sen.
The sound of countless rocket propelled grenades and mortar shells echoed early in the morning Friday.
Loaded with rocket launchers and rounds of ammunition, Hun Sen's men move slowly in small groups.
They number anywhere between 2-thousand and 7-thousand.
The prince's military commander, General Nhiek Bun Chhay, has said his 2-thousand Funcinpec troops holed up in the hilltop town of O'Smach could hold out for a long time.
Forces backing Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (C-P-P) were reported on Friday to have suffered heavy casualties as soldiers tried to push forward against Funcinpec troops.
Thai army officials say 30 of Hun Sen's men have been killed and an unspecified number wounded.
The C-P-P troops face many hazards trying to capture O'Smach.
They must walk 40 kilometres (26.7 miles) along a red, muddy dirt road which separates the government-held outpost of Samrong from O'Smach.
It's a road riddled with mines, bunkers and blown up bridges.
And Khmer Rouge guerrillas - fighting alongside Prince Ranariddh's troops - were rumoured to have laid land mines behind Hun Sen's troops to booby trap them if and when they retreat.
The guerrillas announced a military alliance with the resistance last week, and Khmer Rouge soldiers from their northern base at Anlong Veng have been seen at O'Smach.
The fighting on the ground conflicted with claims made by Cambodia's co-defence ministers who were visiting Thailand Friday.
The ministers told a press conference that there was no more fighting and that C-P-P forces had since Tuesday held O'Smach, a pro-Ranariddh stronghold just inside Cambodia on the Thai border.
Hun Sen ordered his men over a week ago to take O'Smach within a day, but they appeared to have suffered a series of setbacks.
Some Thai officers have suggested that Funcinpec troops could try to hold the area until elections scheduled for next year.
They say the terrain favoured the defenders and that the land mines planted around their positions would deter attackers.
In Phnom Penh, the two co-premiers once more tried to demonstrate the legitimacy of the new government, installed after Hun Sen staged his coup on July 5-6.
Hun Sen and Ung Huot attended a Buddhist ceremony, during which monks gave their blessing to the new regime.

Each title of the video from AP Archive is really confusing. You should add a date of the event, and give a less confusing title. This was not Cambodian-Thai conflict. And this could lead people from far away regions to think that Cambodia is still at war; a very bad impact for the country and people.

This soldiers, This people, Thai or Khmer they died because the Leader Government lost they mind. They died for nothing. It's wasteful and both country have lost border economy for a half billion dollar. It's very sadly for family who lost members.
