Hey now, SWTOR is still going strong thank you! The story could be updated more often I admit, but I don't imagine EA is giving them as much resources as they could.
Hey for what it’s worth, I literally haven’t played video games in years and my only exposure to new ones is through Jules on WhatCulture. I frankly don’t give two shits about any of these games but Jules is such a calming and charismatic presence that I casually just let several of these videos play nearly every day while I go about my life. The only parts I usually pay much attention to are the jokes and the sincere outros that remind me to love myself and others because we matter. Jules, if you read this, I hope you go on to do great things. I wanna see you hosting the World Cup of gaming or whatever. Much love and appreciate from another fuzzy egghead from far away; You’d make it in my top 10 list, my friend.
Holy crap. A gaming list that remembers that Titan Quest happened. It's a personal fave of mine, but nobody I ever talk to about it has ever heard of it.
As a Morrowind modder, I can attest that sometimes, the only thing holding Morrowind together is chewing gum and the devs' hopes and dreams. Still a fantastic game, though, and my favorite game of all time for just over twenty years now.
Protip regarding #2 - because of the way common file systems delete files, software exists to un-delete files. It's actually relatively easy if you do it soon enough, as the actual bits are still on the drive. In a similar vein, software also exists to securely delete files in such a way that they can't be recovered, in case you need to delete sensitive data (for example, customer information for businesses that no longer need to store it).
@@Spotastic9 I know for a fact I had done it in 2003, and the software I used was pretty dated then. It wouldn't be too difficult for a decent programmer to write a tool to undelete a file, especially if they already knew the contents of the file they were looking for. Regardless, the tools exist now, so you have options to save your bacon if you accidentally delete something you shouldn't have.
Confession time: I strategically pause every Jules video during his outro when he says, ". . . my name is Jules and you can go f-." Then I giggle at the prospect of sweetheart Jules telling me off, before resuming his totally wholesome closing monologue. You're welcome
This is an incredible list, guys, great job! If you ever do a list of games blowing your mind (directly) I was thinking of the level Effect and Cause from Titanfall 2. Whole level is great, but at the end when you are falling, it manages to make you feel like you are barely making it. Having played it a couple times I swear it's magic, as it always seems to *just* work even if you're a little slow reacting. Feels like extremely intuitive design, or in this case possibly magic 😃
It makes so much sense that the difficulty in Furi is slightly tweaked the closer you get to beating the bosses. It's probably the main reason why I didn't quit and kept trying until I beat the whole game. More people need to play Furi, it is so satisfying when you finally defeat a boss, especially the final one! Criminally underappreciated game.
This is, believe it or not, the second time I’ve heard the phrase “horse pants” the first being Just Bad Games’s episode on Hercules The Legendary Journeys for N64.
I assume you went into youtube rather than the field you have your masters in? Cause that's wild if you needed to have a masters to work for whatculture.
Not to be a total nerd Jules, but you did pronounce "Shenmue" correctly the first time. Amazingly so, even with the elongated annunciation. Good job you massive lege!
Wait… how the hell were video game horses eating inventory and escaping the containers?! That makes no sense?! That’s some wacky anime nonsense! I need to know more about how that works because I would assume that “container” is just like, a file a stores the other files for each item. They’re just digital files, the photos of my dog on my phone don’t escape and start shitting on my Home Screen.. what the hell?! This blows my mind. Legitimately, this has broken me. I NEED to understand this.
@WhatCulture its very possible that i'm alone in this, but i notices that in more and more videos from you, there is a very faint background noice/music, and it driving me crazy, i keep thinking that my phone is ringing or that there are some one at the door (i'm watching with headphone on)... But in this video it just took over the video for me, i'm 2 min in and i realise that i havn't heard anything that Jules have said so far. In this particularly case it seem to play into my misophonia aswell, as i'm getting physically ill and feel like i have to throw up... that last part is differently a me problem, but wanted to let you know that the effect of the low background noice, since i have to stop watching this video, event though dont want to
How Morrowind rebooted the console? I don't think you're explaining the whole thing, rebooting it would mean to sti through the whole booting process. Are you telling me the player sits there waiting for the console to turn off and on again between missions?

That was a lot more difficult in 2000. The tech may have technically existed, but it wouldn't be readily available.
Yea, "deleted" files are usually flagged as invisible and the space they take is available for other files to overwrite it :)

@@eldibs Fair enough. I remember really having to scrounge around to find anything back then.
@@Spotastic9 Well, to be fair the internet wasn't like it is now. It was much harder to find niche software.
I was so caught off guard by the idea of the horse existing in your inventory eating your items and then fucking off the crash the game xD

Bit weird
How can you not realize when something blows your mind?
OK, the Ultima Online story had me laughing out loud - good job there's only me here.
A brand new video for the channel :)

Okay I find the last one hilarious to think the horse is just eating all your things
How about a list of amazing games on less than amazing systems?
The Supernatural Horror Asthetic Darkstalkers such a good Capcom franchise

It also just makes sense as people slowing down when you beat the crap outta them.
I love weird ways devs made games

You know what game blew my mind? Xenogears. I haven't encountered turn based combat like that ever since
