250+ hours across 2 characters and a lot of that was sitting in my friends living room couch co op with 3 of us playing the hell out of it ha. FoMar fo life!
remember when my gamecube memory card got corrupted and all my progress got deleted. had a meltdown. the music for this game was amazing.
Sad times. These days you can use homebrew to back up your saves.
Had the same happen to me. Several hundred hours gone! I'll check out the home brew. Just picked up a copy of plus on ebay today! Can't wait!
Music really is the real nostalgia from this game for me.

I still play this game, I can't believe you reviewed it, awesome. I play solo, offline so yeah all the rare items I have I got them myself. Had to make multiple characters and still have some more items to get.

God this is nostalgia central, me and my brother played hundreds of hours together of this back in the day, I was the gun using class and I was always happier than hell to see that red colored weapon loot drop lol. If ya know you know.
I remember playing this game offline back in the day and also playing the one on Xbox 360. I miss Phantasy Star so much :(
For some reason remembered this game and was watching youtube videos of it when I found your video. Man so much nostalgia! Also when I was younger and played this my friends and I played split screen. It would have blown our minds if we knew we could play it online lol.

I played PSO on Xbox Live from June 2003 to November 2003. It may have been short, but the memories last a lifetime.

I supported PSO during it's DC days, it's GC days, even it's PC BB days, (Blue Burst). It's currently in PSO2 mode and I generally prefer PSO to PSO2. As strange as that sounds... Perhaps it's nostalgia or the way it lost its way in terms of gameplay but that's just my preference.

No, it only works if you trick the software into thinking it has a lan connection.
Man I got a gamecube back in middle school way back in 2003 from a yard sale and this game was inside needless to say I fkn fell in love I was the hunter robot man had to have a way to detect them traps
I on Dreamcast saw the GM's dressed as tails Sonic and knuckles and also them dropping mag kits Wich they had also mags of tails Sonic and knuckles that did happen and did exist hacks afterwards

It's awesome to see someone produce a quality review of this game! I currently play it for several hours every day and recently came to the conclusion that it is my number 1 slot (of all time) - this is based on hours spent as well as other things. I mix offline and online depending on what I'm trying to do in the game at any given time but do hit-up schtserv regularly.
My characters are "Lightning" (HUnewearl), "Orgun" (HUcast) and "Raiden" (FOmar) - It would be pretty cool to get a game or two one time if you ever play. I'm pretty sure I'll know who you are based on the handles used in your videos and I actually recognised some of the regulars while I was watching! :P Great review mate - keep up the good work! ;)
Thanks a lot! Sadly, through various memory card "experiments" these characters are long gone now. But I always have "FOSSIL" in my name. My current avatar is literally Tails.
@@FossilArcadeCool man, if you're ever up for a game give me a shout. You could even ask one of the server admins to re-skin your character to actually look like Tails from Sonic!

Real happy for you and imma let you finish but a HUcaseal with chain sawd, twin brand, asuka and a god/battle equipped is the greatest hunter OF ALL TIME.
Yeah I am gonna have to wait until I graduate to give this a shot... The game (just episode i and ii) is like $50+ which isn't bad on its own, but I would wanna play on a GameCube and the LAN adapters are absurdly priced.
Worth treating yourself once you've passed, though it's a lot cheaper on Wii. Just a thought.

I also didn't realize you could play offline in splitscreen, so I think I will likely just play it like that with some buddies. I think it is something we could all really get into. Awesom video by the way!!!
The Dreamcast is still the best in my mind, way ahead and still online.

@@FossilArcade Spent years bringing memory cards to friends' houses and doing splitscreen. Beat all of it, then kept playing to get rares!
I like PSO2 myself using the tweaked, but this is good as well if you don’t have 100GB to spare.
So wish they'd give it an international release on Switch

Okay, I'm confused. At 35 seconds there's a message on the right side of the screen saying someone received a HEAVEN STRIKER, and there's even some kind of floor reader active, as it shows the attributes of the weapon. That weapon is only supposed to be found in the Blue Burst version in an episode 4 map, did schtserv put content from episode 4 into the GameCube version? If so, that's pretty cool and I might actually try to connect to their servers and play there.
Yes, I believe that is the case
No, they didn't put Ep4 content into PSOGC. However, the Schthack server also hosts PSOBB so whenever a player on any version of the game finds something "really good", a server-wide message showing the item name and stats is displayed for everyone online. Since the name "HEAVEN STRIKER" wouldn't be on the PSOGC disk, one can assume the server simply announces the item name as text.
We need to hype everyone up for a remaster!
PSO has a great OST as well.

found my memory card with 4 characters around lvl 60-70. Biggest childhood regret I never made it to lvl 80 the final difficulty would alter every monster and boss in the game.
Just play 'To The Future' a bunch of times with good team mates ;)
@@FossilArcade I'm currently relearning everything about the game, consumables, telepipes MAGs. Such a trip of nostalgia. My twin brother n I are gonna have a whack at making it to ultramode and completing Ep1-2 all bosses.

Great review! I remember being so excited to get this as my first online game. Unfortunately, we never got the online to work and so I had to return the broadband adapter. :( I had moderate fun with the single-player, but I've always wondered what it would have been like to play for real, so this was a great look at what I missed!

You might find it a bit of a slog alone. Only worth investing in if you're planning to play with friends or make new connections online.

Oh yes, the Mega Drive went online to download Gakes, but dud it allow multiplayer?

So I have PSO online for Xbox, but not GameCube. I’d like to play online with the Wii but I don’t have a GC disc. Is it possible without the disc?
Jonathan James Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't rule it out.
Jonathan James You're better off playing PSOBB on PC its easy to get on.
I read somewhere on GBATemp that with older versions of Devolution, and with older Wii models, you can bypass the AP on Devolution by veryfying a backup disc as if it was an original game, haven't tried myself yet bc I'm fucking retarded and I got someone else to mod my Wii so most of the terms they use is gibberish to me, but it seems that some people managed to play online without having the retail disc that way.
@@ragrappy00 Definitely the easiest and full featured way to play. I personally played on the Ephinea server.
Don't know if you're still interested but as of October 2019 Nintendont allows you to take this game online without the need of an original disc. So many people are trying it for the first time online now it's soo easy
Does devolution support ntsc games in PAL console? I have a hard time finding a copy here.
Yes, I've played Japanese games on my PAL Wii using it.

No, it's not that kind of game. No jumps or hops or leaps.

@@FossilArcade Kinda. I was actually searching which other 3D platformers Sonic Team has made. If this game doesn't have any platforming, then Nights, Burning Rangers and Billy Hatcher are the only ones they've made. :)

one of my favorite games of all time. I still play it today in 2022. I just bought a Piboy DMG to play the DC version on q handheld emulator.
