Give this same team 82 games to form chemistry. We won 50 with injuries to Kyrie, Lively and poor Seth Curry. The 2 big trades helped claw our way back in to the top 6. (we started the season top 4 with Exum and Grant Williams balling)
Were not close, this year was a perfect storm, next year with this team were not getting to the finals. Quote means - we dont have assets to make a big move, get a great player that would make a difference. And Nico has an alibi cause we made a finals. simple as that. Only 1 that can improve is Lively, now if he makes a big jump - hes young its possible, he could add 3 point shooting, he has a stroke... wel with Lively shooting 3s they can actually play 5 out and he could be third option on O... but thats a lot of ifs... Other players dont have that kind of ceiling - DJJ, PJ... those other guys are already in their prime, what you see is what you get. Realistically they can get Grant, and they should get Grant, starting 5 needs talent upgrade at wing.
No way, Gafford, PJ and DJJ had no playoff experience, now they do. If those guys all showed up in Boston it would’ve been very different. But Kyrie will need to show up as well.
@@tjt2383I still think even when you are close you need to think about ways to improve your team. I know it's kind of becoming a trope at this point but look at the Celtics. Five out is a stupid offense. Boston had the best six players we’ve seen on a team in as long as I can remember and they played five out and looked like they were mediocre against three bad teams and then Dallas held them to 20 points under their season average and 25% three-point shooting in two of the five games. Dallas massively out scored them in the paint and the only reason they didn’t win those close games is because they tried shooting threes and were at such a miserable percentage they took themselves out of contention. What they need is to add a mid range scorer who can get to the basket and let their best options take threes only when it’s a good shot and they are making enough to make it make sense. If they had taken 10 less three-point shots in games two and three and replaced them with high percentage two point shots, they would’ve forced a game six in Dallas either up one or to tie.
@@SDesWriter soo Celtics had most dominant run in playoff but they were mediocre? all expert rave about 5 out, everybodys chasing centers that can shoot 3s, but its bad? Even Lively shot a 3 in finals.. but maybe we need charles oakley and anthony mason on the roster, oh wait those kind of guys dont exist in the league any more...
We lost because their role players are really good at everything. Our role players are kinda focused on certain traits. That's going to be very hard to change.
DJJ stays loyal and signs for the 5.2 MLE. OG wants a 40mil contract, and the Knicks refuse to give it to him. They don't want to lose him for nothing, Mikal Bridges wants to come to the Knicks, so they call their good ol buddy Mavs. OG signs 4/160 and traded to the Mavs. The Mavs send THJ, Green, Kleber, & a first to the Nets. The knicks get Bridges & send 2, maybe 3 picks to the Nets. Everybody wins. The Mavericks then pick up Russell Westbrook (or another vet option at PG) on a vet minimum. Mavericks start Luka, Kyrie, DJJ, OG, & Lively with Westbrook, Hardy, Exum, PJ, & Gaff as their backups. I like that team's chances
We get rid of THJ, sign DJJ, bring in one other decent ball handler, then make the pieces we have stronger. Exum is a good ball handler when he has confidence so that would be the area he would work to be better on when he comes back. I think Nico is right that we have the pieces for the most part and if everyone comes back 5-10% better, with a full year of playing together, they can be the 1 seed.
Did he say DJJ is priority "1A AND 1B"? I thought I heard "1A, 1B" which I took to mean. "He's priority 1A. Or, at least, 1B" which would make more sense to me. He doesn't seem like an everything priority to me, though he could be 1A.
If you add anyone you will never really see the fruits of Omax, and Hardy who have great potential. Its hard to hear but we should not be adding depth pieces who steal experience from Omax, Hardy and Green, not unless they are bundled in a trade. I think for us to be competitive Hardy has to take that next step and so does Omax. Omax is 6'8 245 pounds, he could be a problem if he puts it together.
Again it’s likely a trade for someone like Jerami Grant could happen either this summer or at the trade deadline. We have the ammunition and now all that matters is the will. Do we risk going into the first or 2nd apron for a player that MIGHT MAKE A DIFFERENCE? This player has to be a sure thing. That’s why we hesitate.
Thank you... finaly someone who gets it! Our young guys need minutes, so we can test them and see if they can take the next step. And if it doesnt work, we can still make trades at the deadline!
Your thinking is what led to that collapse in 2023. What if I told you a team (or two) that you beat didn't mind you being the one to take the ass kicking from Boston? OKC at least. LAC, without a healthy Kawhi, probably. Plus, you don't beat the Nuggets or the Lakers if you drew either of them. There is still the Kyrie at TD Garden issue.
Run it back is our worst case scenario when it comes to our core. THJ is gone. Maxi may be gone as well. We clearly need to develop internally and sign another scorer/playmaker.
i feel like mavs are not gonna make any moves this season. they will try to run it back with these players includig the toung players like omax, lawson, and hardy in the rotation prob with more minutes hoping they'd improve coming into the ssn and if they don't thats where nico will make a decision andove at the trade deadline again.
Should be ready and willing to trade anyone and everyone except Lively (so he can improve alongside of 77). Especially Kyrie, while there are still enough dummies who think that he’s way better than he actually is.
58th pick is the last one, so why would Dallas give a 3 year guaranteed contract to a young prospect when they may very well not use that draft spot and take the same player in the summer league or give him a 2 way contract?... Maybe Omax will get 8 min/game, if he will use properly his garbage min... Just trade THJ for whatever player for 1 year!.. 😂
Nico thinks this team he put together is adequate, not realizing it took luka to go god mode to even make it to the finals. In the nba if you arent improving your regressing. Look at the celtics, they added porzingis and holiday after making the finals and they had a much deeper core than anything the mavs have. Also denver basically had their hangover year last year they will be better, and okc is in position to add a markannen as well as other pieces while also having lots of draft capitol. First or second round exit if mavs run it back.
Pistons NEED a shooter for Cade. Trade THJ and maxi or green to get Jaden Ivey. Even if Mavs don’t want Ivey, we’ve freed up cap space for DJJ. Trade Ivey with another team for what you actually want. If this team goes into next season like this with 1 or 2 30yr old additions it will really be sad.

I think the Mavs were just tired, and banged-up, and the Celtics were fresh cause the entire Eastern Conference was injured. Luka can shoot threes, but he was like 1-21 against the Celtics. PJ and Green can shoot threes, but they were missing wide open threes against the Celtics. Kleber was clearly playing injured, as he couldn’t shoot either.
He better be showing his poker face? Run it back? So you satisfied with 5 seed, having to play Luka way too many mins. Resigning DJ #1 priority? And his shooting % in finals is ok? Luka's D and shooting 3 % is ok? Gafford and Liv performance in finals is ok? Guys we were exposed. We gotta have a 3rd solid DEPENDABLE player. No changes then Luka better be superman again, yes he is only 25 but he has been playing professionally since like 16 yrs old. His body is not one of a 25 add to that his athleticism and weight i just dont see him playing at a high level after 31 or 32. Hope im wrong but with Irving also I think we have max a 3 or 4 year window. We need proven quality dependable players now. Way too much dead weight and the bright lights are too bright for most of our roster.
Remember, you only finished 3 games out of the 10th seed. Golden State was missing Draymond for 27 games. Memphis will be formidable again. Why wasn't Nico asked about the Kyrie at TD Garden issue? It is a major problem. None of this is worth anything if at the end of it is a similar Kyrie performance at TD Garden in the Finals. Unprepared for Porzingis, despite him having played for you? Your wings are glorified backups. They did not hold up well against Brown and Tatum.
What a depressing post. Did you not see what happened this season? Gafford and PJ were huge additions to our team. We were playing Dwight Powell 15 minutes a game at Center the beginning of the season. And, we also had to play Grant Williams, who was complete trash. And, then we also had a rookie at center, and he’s gotten better and better. My point is, the team starting next year is completely different than the team we started last year, and to say “you only finished 3 games out of the 10th seed” is completely delusional. The Mavericks were 33-14 since the trade deadline before the Finals, and two of those losses were on purpose. That 70+ winning percentage firmly puts the Mavericks as the 1-seed in the Western Conference. (They won the WCF, btw, you may have missed that). And, as far as the Celtics goes, they got to the Finals for free: going up against easier teams that were missing their best players. So, the Celtics were rested, and the Mavericks were tired and banged-up. It’s that simple. And, the proof for that is that the Mavs were missing wide-open threes. That’s tired legs. And, the Mavs STILL almost took games 2 and 3.
He said the " core is intact" ....Of course, he's not gonna tell you what his next move is. Mavs will make some sort of trade. Bruh, you're overreacting
They would never get past OKC. Now that the thunder added Caruso they’re going to be a much tougher matchup and it was already a team the Dallas had trouble with. Denver is also one player away from being pretty much unstoppable so I don’t want him making a move just for the sake of doing it and making things worse but if he decides to keep it the same then he’s admitting they’re not gonna win next year.
@@huxleybennett4732 Demar Derozan, 24ppg@50%,/5/4. Until they change from "Luka Ball" They need a combo guard who could score in high leverage moments at TD Garden in a Finals rematch. Better if he's played with Luka. Spencer Dinwiddie.
Trading out seven players to get two back could be a disaster or could be a great trade. It really depends on the details. On any given championship team You might have eight people in a meaningful playoff rotation? I'm not saying there's a good trades. I'm just saying the fact that it's seven for two isn't inherently a bad thing. The salaries would almost certainly match
On the bright side, if they don’t make a move and lose even earlier in the playoffs, maybe we’ll get Luka in Denver and we can bask in the warm glow of a three-peat with our European overlords…😂😂😂
@@Smido83 well it’s a nice thought but Denver is taking care of him in by surrounding him with great players while Dallas got Luka one guy and a rookie who really played well, but still gave us two points and three rebounds in game five of the finals. That’s probably gonna get better because they’re going to lose KCP and that’s a good thing for cap reasons and because he’s just not good enough to make this team win. Braun and Watson might be ready this year or they might be a year away but both of them are really good players with huge upside. Hey Nick,
How far under the 1sr apron would the Mavs be if they only bring back DJJ and drop THJ?
He said the core is intact. I took that as those players are untouchable. He said nothing about improving on the fringes.
I would leave the core alone... its never a good idea to mess up the chemistry... i would get rid of THJ and mybe maxi and try to get anosther rollplayer mybe but i would leave the core alone
In Nico I trust. In Nick A steady I trust.
I think Omax is still a year away. But kid looks strong on defense. Dont think his offense will keep him in game.
nick we could always buy into the second round for players like,
1.Nikola Djurisic
2.Pacome Dadiet
3.Tristen Newton
Cut Dwight Powell and give DJJ his money. 😂
Facts
Give this same team 82 games to form chemistry. We won 50 with injuries to Kyrie, Lively and poor Seth Curry. The 2 big trades helped claw our way back in to the top 6. (we started the season top 4 with Exum and Grant Williams balling)
Run it Back!
Take a flyer on Jabari Parker, bring him back to the states.
They were a number one or two seed and made it to the final four in 2022 and 23 and they still moved out a whole bunch of big pieces of their rotation to him improve their team. Smart, brogdon, neismith, Williams... All traded over the course of two off seasons.
@@tjt2383 its not experience - they played great first 2 rounds , even conf finals, its talent level. Though theyre upgrade compared to what we had its not enough.. and I love those guys.. Kyrie at this point in his career is not number 2 on a championship team, hes more suited to be 3.. but however you slice it, we need another all-star level player , preferably at wing..
Even Lively shot a 3 in finals.. but maybe we need charles oakley and anthony mason on the roster, oh wait those kind of guys dont exist in the league any more...
thanks nick
We lost because their role players are really good at everything. Our role players are kinda focused on certain traits. That's going to be very hard to change.
I think he basically will look to build on the core of the 7-8 players.. so he will continue to be opportunistic in the draft and free agency
whether its Lively or PJ or DJJ, SOMEBODY has to be that third guy next season
Give Hardy and Exum THJ's minutes and OMax gets Maxi minutes.
Thank you... finaly someone who gets it! Our young guys need minutes, so we can test them and see if they can take the next step. And if it doesnt work, we can still make trades at the deadline!
@@Smido83 lol been a long time since we agreed smido, how ya been
@@richardcase9165 If we agree... I think the world could end... or the team should do exactly what we say. There is no inbetween! 😉
We traded away 3 guy for 2 and made the finals. We’re okay we’re a couple peices away
If any team other than Boston made it out of the East we’d be champions. Chemistry and continuity for once may not be so bad.
I think that they don’t have DJJ’s bird rights, because I read that they actually can’t sign him unless it’s MLE for 5,2 million or to dump Hardaway.
This is like an evening newspaper.
People forget about Frank
Maxi? Whaaat?!
Run it back without THJ. This is the best roster the Maves have had. Making moves to make moves is stupid
I think we should run it back, and make a major trade mid season
Run it back is our worst case scenario when it comes to our core. THJ is gone. Maxi may be gone as well. We clearly need to develop internally and sign another scorer/playmaker.
Calling THJ part of the core when he was useless in the postseason... Maxi maybe can be part of the core, but thj XD
@@luisgomez-jordanamartin4776 I said THJ is gone. Even his father said he'll get traded.
a final piece replacing thj will make this team
Point out that the Celtics team had played together for 6 years, but they also traded three other top eight rotation guys in the offseason.
That’s basically impossible to do now with the new CBA
you should do a collab with marcel martin from mavericks digest!!!
Next season is ours Mavs forever
Run it back with one surprise? 😊
i feel like mavs are not gonna make any moves this season. they will try to run it back with these players includig the toung players like omax, lawson, and hardy in the rotation prob with more minutes hoping they'd improve coming into the ssn and if they don't thats where nico will make a decision andove at the trade deadline again.
He did say 10-15% better. That's not doing nothing
Spend all the money under the cap.
Haha yeah it’s a lot easier to say “spend all the money” when you’ll be hard capped
Replace THJ and run it back.
I am totally OK just running it back. Whoever we sign is back bench.
As long as they don't get ducking jerami grant suuuper expensive
Did y'all hear that omax apparently grew to 6'11??
where did you hear that? a 4 inch growth spurt would be crazy for 1 year
@@davidchudleigh1249 I heard it on Twitter ( I know super valuable source ) I have no clue if it's true but that would be insane
I heard that Lively grew an inch last year. He's 7'2 now.
No... Didnt you see him playing in the finals? he is basically Luka height, nothing more!
@@Smido83 you can't tell that from a top down view on TV😭 if they had a close up of the two then maybe but Luka also looked the same height as KAT in the T wolves series so🤷♂️
If we "run it back" we'll fail again we need actual scoring, we can't shoot threes.
Maybe I’m being naive, but we’re a very young team. Maybe it’s best to run it back and build the 3 shot this off-season and next season with the guys we got. Worst comes to worst maybe Nico could pull some trade deadline wizardry
@@grooben8412 hardy and lively can develop more but even then we would still be underdogs, josh green isn't impressive to me, he looks like he has what he needs but he needs 5 more years to maybe improve, we should trade him along with the and kleber imo, kleber is an hard one though he's still a good defender but he can't shoot no more
I think the Mavs were just tired, and banged-up, and the Celtics were fresh cause the entire Eastern Conference was injured.
Mavs lacks good shooters. And you don't have the right pieces. Wake up!!
We not beating Boston in a series of 7 without a 3rd scorer . Running it back or not and we still gone need 24 from Kyrie .
Keep Luka ,kyrie, PJ ,Lively, gafford, DJJr. That’s it everybody else gotta go
We can keep exum and hardy as well everyone else gotta go immediately
Tell Nico we need a new coach
I’ve seen enough of Timmy, Kleber & Green
Remember, you only finished 3 games out of the 10th seed. Golden State was missing Draymond for 27 games. Memphis will be formidable again. Why wasn't Nico asked about the Kyrie at TD Garden issue? It is a major problem. None of this is worth anything if at the end of it is a similar Kyrie performance at TD Garden in the Finals. Unprepared for Porzingis, despite him having played for you? Your wings are glorified backups. They did not hold up well against Brown and Tatum.
Exactly what I’ve been saying. As a Mavs fan I think right now we’re a bit blindsided 😔.
Run what back? We got smothered like Dacia Lacey's baby...
Take a break Nick, don't make pointless content like ESPN
Running it back, even with DJJ = Another Finals mismatch against Boston as best case scenario
The only big move I can realistically see happening that would beat cohesion would be getting PG, and that’s not that realistic itself
@@huxleybennett4732 Demar Derozan, 24ppg@50%,/5/4. Tons of experience, second best clutch player in the NBA last year behind curry, best mid range player in the league, and can get to the paint whenever he wants which could actually result in the other team having foul trouble instead of playing their normal rotations all five games of the series Because Dallas lacked the ability to get them in foul trouble.
Until they change from "Luka Ball" They need a combo guard who could score in high leverage moments at TD Garden in a Finals rematch. Better if he's played with Luka. Spencer Dinwiddie.
@@ProudVet Is this a joke? Dinwiddie??
Remove THJ/Exum and we can package Kleba+Green+pick to get something good hopefully. Just keep OMax or i will lose all faith in the franchise
Improve bench.
I agree 💯
No
Yeah people are treating it like we lost in the first round in 5 I saw a trade on fanspo for us to get rid of 7 players and recoup 2 in trades
Or the other way around if Dallas reaches the finals again and Denver gets bounced early? I would take Jokic on the Mavs...
@@Smido83 well it’s a nice thought but Denver is taking care of him in by surrounding him with great players while Dallas got Luka one guy and a rookie who really played well, but still gave us two points and three rebounds in game five of the finals. My guess is if they got together and plotted, Doncic goes to Denver to play with Braun/Porter/Gordon/Joker and wins 2-4 in a row.
@@SDesWriter Aha... how far did the Nuggets get this season? Are they over the 2nd Tax apron? Is Dallas? Who has the deeper and younger roster? You gus shouldve traded Porter for 2 rotation pieces last summer. Dude is killing your flexibility and allways shrinks when needed most.
@@Smido83 i’m actually equally a nuggets and Mavericks fan. The Bulls were my home team but they’ve been so bad for so long I gave up even paying attention to basketball until the last four or five years. Totally agree with you about Porter and their cap issues from overpaying stars that were good pieces but not versatile at all.
That’s probably gonna get better because they’re going to lose KCP and that’s a good thing for cap reasons and because he’s just not good enough to make this team win. Braun and Watson might be ready this year or they might be a year away but both of them are really good players with huge upside. They’re not that much different from Dallas in that they need a bench player who can score 15 points or at a minimum a younger shooting guard who could play more minutes to limit the time when they’re outmatched on the court. But if you’re asking me if I would trade Murray/KCP/Porter/Gordon straight up for Irving/Jones/Washington/Gafford, it would take me a while to answer because I’d be on the floor laughing.
