Somehow a team that loses the finals gets more heat than a team that gets eliminated in the second round. The media circle is just ridiculous. To try to spin this season like it should be a disappointment for the Mavs is embarrassing considering the fact that like 60 games into the regular season the Mavs were a play-in team. The reality is even if the mavs make the finals again they will never beat boston, they could legitimately make the finals two more times and lose to boston again
It's most likely because it's fresh. Remember that the 2nd round for the Mavs ended a month ago. A month is a long time and there was a lot of basketball played in this time. Great season, so proud of this team. I have never been so happy to be wrong about someone as I am about Kyrie. He’s proven himself to be an amazing addition. It’s a lot better looking at a 4 month offseason, coming out of the finals than last year. Thanks Nick .
Yeah, I think that’s the most disappointing aspect of this playoffs run. Luka haters and non Mavs fans won’t acknowledge what we clearly saw; he wasn’t the same Luka as the one from earlier this season when fully healthy, and it showed most on the defensive end late in games where dude was literally hobbling and making bad gambles to make up for his clear struggles with movement. Dude was injured playing 40 minutes a game and carrying on offense and getting targeted on defense. Despite all that, he’s that good that he can still dominate the game. But the Celtics were a tier too good to not be at your best movement wise.
@@jjcometa9333 I think we got robbed of an all time great playoff run, and instead just got a “pretty great” playoff run. I’m not sure it would mean that they beat the Celtics, but it damn sure would have made it a closer series, he can steal 2-3 games from anyone fully healthy, any team from any era. Kyrie playing absolutely awful though would have prevented them from winning it all most likely, if he was always destined to do that against Boston…
What you meant was Luka at 75% body fat content, right? You morons are hilarious. Boston fans can admit that Tatum and Brown STILL need improvement in TONS of areas. But FAT BOY Luka is perfect. Hilarious. And sad.
nobody really expect them to beat clippers, okc and wolves. the fact that luka isnt 100% from injuries they should get more credit cause west is harder to survive than east. hope they get another 2 way scoring guard, 2way forward and hope lively developed as pau gasol like type of player.
@LockedOnMavericks In many sports, esp. men's team sports, you have to suffer through pain to show you are a MAN. If Luka is scoring 30 points, and he's slow anyway, then he's not hurt. The press tried to ask how hurt he is. If he says, I'm hurt, it's affecting me 10 points a game, then he's making excuses. How hurt was Boston? It's been said the healthier team wins, and Dallas had both Luka, but esp Maxi hurt. They had Porzingis, but his main contribution was in Game 1. And when Luka keeps scoring 30 points a game, people even say he's faking his injury. They probably don't even believe he's taking pain killing injections. What's worse, it's the FANS that don't believe it. Any injured player has to play like they aren't, and when they play bad, it's not because they're injured (because they're faking it, of course), and they don't CARE about the fans. Most of the fans, if they had a hangnail, would quit even if given millions of dollars. The excuse has always been "we pay you a lot of money to play in pain". Well, Cuban is worth many times more than Luka, and he can take time off due to pain. These are our modern day gladiators, willing to risk life and limb, for our entertainment.
You’re either soft for not playing, or you’re faking the injury if you’re playing. Only people who watched Luka all year know he was hobbling by the games ends. He still had a lot of first quarter success this post season, but by the end of the game, when dude is still normally a killer when needed, he was hobbling. Kyrie didn’t carry his weight in the finals was the main difference and Luka tried to take on an even more unreal load.
Celtics exposed Mavs flaws. They need a third scorer, someone besides Luka and Kyrie to go to, and a 3&D wing… Mavs actually have Hardy that could be the scorer and Omax the wingdefender… if Mavs play their cards right these two could develop into gems. Mavs can also try trade for it… sending picks and THJ away.
Luka's asked to do the most and never complains about that. He always takes responsibility in losses. But when they win it's a team win. All the people who love to hate on Luka don't acknowledge that humble side of him. And all the people who trash Luka for being out of shape won't acknowledge that Luka was playing 40+ mins a game while being injured when other players didn't play through injuries like he did and players like Ant were getting oxygen in the 4th quarter but not getting told they're out of shape. Luka deserves a lot of credit for how he played through multiple injuries, for huge minutes and carrying his team through the playoffs.
First, congrats to the Mavs for an amazing season. I'm still stumped when it was pretty obvious that Maxie couldn't shoot why he was still playing. I know Gafford isn't an outside threat, but he brings the juice on defense.
Obviously, the Mavs need a THJ upgrade. With the second apron looming, there's going to be some crazy trades this off-season. Mavs will have opportunities to benefit from other teams panic moves.
I usually say positive things here, but I had an epiphany when I saw the “way too early championship odds” How many times do Lukas teams have to “overachieve” before he leaves to go somewhere where they can put a winning team around him? Watching people talk about Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, like they’re anywhere close to Luka has to make him absolutely sick. Why do the mavericks have a top 3 at worst player on their roster (who they drafted) and are relying on a rookie center to be their 3rd best player in his 5th season? He was better than even the most optimistic mavericks fan could have imagined as well. That was pure luck. Luka is taking all this criticism from the finals when his teammates couldn’t hit WIDE OPEN shots. People calling him a ball hog while DJJ shoots an air ball on wide open 3? You don’t think he thinks about this while he’s watching Sam Hauser end his season bombing 3s? Watching Tatum play terrible and get a ring? HE HAD DWIGHT POWELL AS HIS STARTING CENTER FOR 5 SEASONS. The front office gets him Daniel Gafford, PJ and a f**cking rookie and he goes to the finals. Those aren’t great players, they just don’t completely suck. That’s all it took… he’s had the worst supporting cast of any superstar in history and it’s killing his career. Everyone is looking at Nico like he’s the GM of the year because the mavericks success. NO!!!! You just put decent players around an all time great… GRANT WILLIAMS!!!??? RICHAUN HOLMES!!!??? I’m leaving this here. If Maxi Kleber, THJ, Dwight Powell are on this roster next season, Luka is about to take his talents to a real franchise, because the mavericks don’t care about winning. Get it done Nico. Feel good season over your record is now 0-0 and you have an all time great to build around. No more excuses, no more Cinderella seasons.
Bro, every team has at least 2 Dwight Powell(Mavs has also 2: Markieff and Powell), relax, this Mavs need just more time to glue, much health and better shootings...Patience and enjoy the journey! 😅🎉
Pretty spot on. A big problem is they traded all their picks to get Kyrie and porzingis, the latter who just couldn’t stay healthy when they needed him. They really gambled big trading for him fresh off his knee injury with the Knicks. In hindsight it looks like they should have rode it out with Porzingis, but as we can clearly see now he is not a number 2 option, a good 3 option at best in the current competitive league. The Wizards were bad last season with him as their best player. He can barely create for himself let alone others. Porzingis also admitted that he had a bad winning attitude in Dallas and came their expecting to be the number one guy. Despite all this, he put up similar stats to his stats in Boston. That production is fine as a third or fourth best player but not as a number two option offensively. The real huge miss was letting Brunson go, who was trending toward becoming a Kyrie type scoring contributor who can playmake better. He would have been a perfect number 2 on par with Brown with the Celtics, better offensively but obviously worse defensively, and much cheaper than Kyrie at the 4 years $56 mil they could have kept him for (although I kind of believe Mark Cubans story that it was Brunsons dad who blew up the contract talks so he could take a job with the Knicks and have Brunson there with him). Either way, losing Brunson before he hit his prime after drafting and developing him is a huge fail. And then they traded porzingis for Dinwiddie and Bertans…. And yes they went to the WCF with Dinwiddie who played well, but that short term gain was not worth it. Regardless though, porzingis got hurt yet again in these playoffs and barely played, but as a third/fourth option his team was good enough to get it done mostly without him. Most teams, and certainly not the Mavs, could afford such a luxury, and they got tired of waiting to see if it would work out. If they could have rode it out with porzingis and got him for a healthy playoff run, allowed Brunson to develop more, and added literally any other solid player to go with Finney Smith, I think that’s a winning roster against anyone. I think they had the potential to have a truly great team and Cuban threw it away. But hard to not give up on porzingis based on what he was doing every season injury wise for the near max contract pricing. Hindsight is 20/20.
I really cant be mad about making the finals a year after missing the play in. But I cant help but think about how things might have gone if A) We got healthy Luka. Luka this year turned it up a lot and is way way better than he was during the entire playoffs because he was hurt the entire time. Imagine 73 point caliber or 50 and 15 on Christmas Luka during the playoffs. I think we would have had multiple legendary performances on par with or better than how he was playing against Minnesota. B) Our luck of the draw didnt have us going up against a Boston Celtics team that has been knocking at the door for half a decade and finally made the all in moves to take it over the top and become a historically dominant team this year. While also happening to be the one franchise in the league that Kyrie seems to have emotional and/or mental trauma and issues with. Ugh
The team needed an injured Luka on the court, because when he came off, they got shredded. And the few games when he wasn’t effective are getting overly scrutinized and overshadowing his impact.
@@tongobong1 Kyrie was once again shackled by his own mess. Dude is only going to be older and less effective next season. Dallas is going to need another shooter
No team, other than Celtics and Clippers have three or more all league players (defense and/or offense). The Celtics have more 3 and D players than any other team. Let’s be honest. Aside from Luka, Lively and Irving, the Mavs are average or below through the rest of the roster. Switch the next 5 players on Celtics with Mavs and Mavs win championship. The Mavs need a good and consistent 3 point shooter who can play D, but they’re rare and hard to get.
When KP played, Lively only scored 2 points/game, enough to neutralize Lively's height. But Lively will grow in a year and the same team will be better in the next PO. The only thing that I feel is dangerous is the way too much Kyrie hatred of some Celtics fans, and this cannot be neutralized by ordinary, secular/materialistic means, but only by spiritual means. And of course, the health is veeeery important!
Mental health can be a real thing especially when your trying so hard to be super positive about everything and the first stint of negativity throw you off just in life 🤷🏽♂️
Hey Luka apologists, listen up. I'm a C's fan. I think Luka has a chance to be the GOAT, or at the very least in that conversation. He's that good. What I don't understand is why you people can't admit that the dude has fucking flaws, just like Tatum, just like Brown. If Luka got himself in Tatum or Brown shape, what do you think that would do for his game? He's a fucking offensive basketball savant, and a pathetically horrible defender, at least in this series. You know, the most important one of his life. Also, the C's, with their excellent coaching, exposed your Luka, Kyrie-centric offense. If Luka decides to lay off the 6-packs and focuses on HIS six pack, he will be easier to HIDE on D. Kyrie made huge improvements on D and off the court since his days in Boston, but you can NOT have your two stars be defensive liabilities in the playoffs, it's just not tennable. Wake the fuck up, Dallas. Defense means something in the NBA. Not everything, but enough. Enough to win it all.
Relax man, we know Luka's flaws, he is not perfect. JOKIC has not 6 pack, but still 3 times mvp and Luka is already better than him(Jokic himself said that), except emotional control... All you wrote are well known here for long time, just stop hate against Kyrie!
@@arjunadan3812 Jokic got his shit together and got himself in better shape. Not 6 pack shape but better, for real. If you didn't know that then you don't really know hoops, bro. It wasn't simply leaving the team. Dude stomped on our logo. That is disrespect at it's highest level. Kyrie's Indian name is 'Sucks in Boston', now and forever. Maybe someday he'll go on a spiritual journey and the white buffalo will call for him to understand his place in the universe. Until then, FUCK KYRIE. Again, if you knew hoops you would understand. Look it up and keep it real.

The amount of negativity and people who know better than the actual pros is startling. When someone would've told us the Mavs are in the finals we wouldn't have believed that. Now we have DLive and a roster that's not too bad and we'll see what the off-season brings us. Who thought at the beginning of the year we would be watching Mavs play basketball in June!?

Kyrie was so classy in that answer, glad to see the leader he has become. Luka has a great idea of a champion on his own team, now it's time to make their own memories with Gaff, Lively, PJ, Green, Hardy, and others.
Kyrie is not suddenly a great leader not saying he didn't have some good impact but Dallas was a struggle with him before they rounded out the roster. If we are going to give Kyrie credit for 'leadership' when they are winning he gets plenty of blame for the fact HE DID NOT bring winning with him coming into Dallas
What is the possibility of the Mavs trading kyrie and getting Brunson back? Believe that they would have won the championship this year if they had held onto him...
Mavs should try aiming to get bogdan bogdanovic get luka's balkan brother here 🗣 he's also a really good shooter and can be a good playmaker too if luka / kyrie is off the court , another one they should try is joe harris another shooter. Then lastly assuming that we'll trade kleber & powell mavs would lack size & height so they should get another back up center/ forward that can come off the bench protecting the rim & rebounding. Lastly if mavs could get another 3 & D wing off the bench that'd be great
Porzingis not being healthy is like Maxi not being healthy. He may have been a 1 or 2 on weak teams, but he played just 1 real game. Imagine if Luka sat out the same amount Porzingis did (parts of Game 3, Game 4) and played off the bench. Mavs instantly lose. If the Celtics had lost, Porzingis would not be blamed for it. Luka does the same thing, of course, he's the star, he gets the blame. Even Tatum gets a pass because Brown shows up, and even if not, Holiday is there. Did Kyrie show up? Was there a Holiday for the Mavs. Tatum doesn't need to score 40 points a game for his team to win. He barely has to score 30 points a game to do that. He can almost not score, and they'd do OK.
I'm a Mavs fan, but when KP played, Lively only scored 2 points/game, enough to neutralize Lively's height...KP is much better than Maxi, any team would pick KP over Maxi...But Lively will grow in a year and the same team will be better in the next PO. Tatum shot less than 40% in fg percentage in two finals appearances and somehow hes lukas dad 😂 at least use the better celtics player to make the point (brown)
Its time to brainwashed ourselves into Luka should/will be more fit and not play in national team and just for him to come with beer belly and bad health in october. Stars have bad losses and performances and learns usually. Really hope FO dont hold back and Luka comes hunting for 1st seed.
Luka fans(including this podcast) have made the Mavs fanbase so toxic. All y’all do is bash the team and the coaching staff but give Luka a pass for EVERYTHING. Yall gave Luka the “injury” excuse the whole season. Luka didn’t play great in the finals either. He ball hogged, turned the ball over, and played AWFUL defense. Trash Kyrie all you want, but the reality is.. Mavs would’ve NEVER made it to the finals without Kyrie.
I've been saying this for a couple days...Celtics fans cheer harder against Kyrie than they do for their own team. Good on Kyrie for taking the high road
As a Celtics fan Cryrie is forever an enemy. We have high expectations for our stars here and he failed miserably to go to another failed KD super team experiment. Any other Celtic that left or got traded gets a warm welcome except Cryrie.
@@williamkent2446 Do you celebrate the kind of performance Kyrie gave in the Finals? As for other stars current NBA ballers don't tell us how they really feel. No question Tatum and Brown relished sending Uncle Drew home looking like a scrub. At this moment if Kyrie retired tell me what team he played on would even consider retiring his number None you say? Correct. And why is that? He never took THE HIGH ROAD for any stretch
I hope Paul George comes to Dallas Kyrie doesn't like to play as pg anymore I hope Dallas can win games without Luka in a regular season and he should forget about MVP and focus about get champion.
If Luka took care of his body better he wouldn’t have fallen apart at the end of the season like he did…. It’s his fucking job to be in amazing shape… he just never is…. Maybe he could move latterly if he got in shape like say Jalen Brown or Jayson Tatum?
Not to question Luka but when we’ve seen him truly hurt before we knew he was hurt because he missed the first couple games of the Utah series. He was for sure hurting this playoffs run but not truly injured. I think Luka needs to either manage his load better in the season so he’s not work down or get in better shape to be able to handle it. If he’s going to shoot more like he did this season then extra weight offers no benefits to him. He should do what Jocic did before he starting winning his MVPs and shed some weight.
He couldn't afford missing games. If he misses the first few games against the Clippers, we're definitely down 0-2. He didn't have the luxury to rest this post-season. It's unfortunate, but that's just how the dice rolled for us. We still made the Finals though.
Kyrie going to each Celtic before the game was even over just looked clownish and overly dramatic. I would look to trade him before his stock falls further. He’s obscenely overrated. I’d like to see a whole new look squad around Luka (except Lively).
@@ajblac4774 I agree that Kyrie was awesome against Clippers and Wolves unlike against Boston in Boston. It is interesting that Kyrie was great playing against Boston in Dallas so this is very fishy. I just don't buy the story about Kyrie playing bad just because of fans in Boston.
TD Garden? Luka had 19 turnovers in the 3 games there. Boston’s entire strategy was to run off Luka turnovers and the times he was lazying around, accentuating perceived injuries. Most insane thing ever: The ENTIRE NBA world sees through Luka’s injury excuse scam. Nothing else like it in the league.

Sounds like a recipe for a 2nd round exit next season. Klay is well past it not worth that money and K Love would be good for the money but Green deserves to stay and Exum gone
@@I.am_Groot I disagree. Klay although no longer elite is still a 2 way player who would thrive playing with Luka and Kyrie. On GSW curry plays off ball and klay cant create for himself. The Klay being washed narratives were more from the standpoint how GSW was using him. They know his contract is up and they had no intention of keeping him or putting him in a position too have value. Thats just how many teams operate you would think teams just want to win its not reality. Same thing happened to Djj on the Bulls. Klay is worth 25m a year look at the players in the league who make that much. klay averaged 18ppg at 38% from 3. (same as Luka). the biggest discrepancy was his shot attempts went down. GSW knows Klay isn't an elite defender anymore but he still is a good defender. He isn't a 2nd option scorer anymore but he is perfect 3rd option for Luka. Mavs would have 3 players shooting 40% from 3s Klay also gives you the ability to easily play him at Sg and you can always bring Djj back into the game for defense. Kevin Love at a veterans Min is someone you can bring in for 3s and he can play stretch 5 Everyone I mentioned has won a championship. this is something that not only helps Luka in terms of perspective but the overall atmosphere of the team. Now if we make the finals there won't be anyone that doesn't understand the mission and understands value of roles I didnt suggest moving Exum because he can play pg and is a 2 way player.Exum was much better then Green with the exception on game 5. green although he was good isn't worth keeping when from his position we need shooting. If we replay that Celtics series and have Klay they cant double Kyrie and test Djj to hit a 3.

Kyrie playing absolutely awful though would have prevented them from winning it all most likely, if he was always destined to do that against Boston…
And it didn't matter till the end (though arguably secondary and role player scoring was the real issue, especially in those games in Boston.)
Thanks Nick for an awesome season! Your coverage made it so fun!
Luka at 75% is better than your favorite player at 100% healthy 🤷🏼♂️
70% of the time it works every time

What you meant was Luka at 75% body fat content, right? You morons are hilarious. Boston fans can admit that Tatum and Brown STILL need improvement in TONS of areas.
But FAT BOY Luka is perfect. Hilarious. And sad.
and 100% worse at defense than your average 6th man
my favorite player just won a chip and sent luka home bum ass dude
Honestly, if someone said at the beginning of the season that he'll make us a deal: Mavs in nba finals, but they'll lose. We'd all take it.
And yet, here your fellow fans are, whining and crying after all of the Mavs in 6 bs. You will never win shit with a FAT Luka. Truth.
nobody really expect them to beat clippers, okc and wolves. the fact that luka isnt 100% from injuries they should get more credit cause west is harder to survive than east. hope they get another 2 way scoring guard, 2way forward and hope lively developed as pau gasol like type of player.
Great show nick you're awesome
Celtics exposed Mavs flaws.
They need a third scorer, someone besides Luka and Kyrie to go to, and a 3&D wing…
Mavs actually have Hardy that could be the scorer and Omax the wingdefender… if Mavs play their cards right these two could develop into gems.
Mavs can also try trade for it… sending picks and THJ away.
They need a Brandon Ingram
I usually say positive things here, but I had an epiphany when I saw the “way too early championship odds”
How many times do Lukas teams have to “overachieve” before he leaves to go somewhere where they can put a winning team around him?
AMEN ,Holly spirit ,King Jesus and Hallelujah .PREACH!
Bro, every team has at least 2 Dwight Powell(Mavs has also 2: Markieff and Powell), relax, this Mavs need just more time to glue, much health and better shootings...Patience and enjoy the journey! 😅🎉

@@KalvinPatel west stacked new teams are emerging. We need huge roster update maybe we should trade kyrie to mavs need strech 4 like lauri markkanen
But I cant help but think about how things might have gone if
A) We got healthy Luka.
Ugh
Let's go Mavs!
Changing my Twitter pfp to headphone Nico for the offseason
The team needed an injured Luka on the court, because when he came off, they got shredded. And the few games when he wasn’t effective are getting overly scrutinized and overshadowing his impact.
Exactly, and, for all the scrutiny he takes on defense, when he's off the court their defense efficiency also drops.
happy birthday dirk🎉
Still not ready to call it a season. Leaving the exit interviews for tomorrow. Midsommar is when summer really starts.
Yes, It would be interesting to see the average and the most played minutes per player and who that person is...
Y'all see Shady McCoy on Fox Sports say Luka is the "worst All-Star I've ever seen" .... Chris Kaman made an all star team btw
I do not see a team beating Boston in a series with Kyrie on the roster without a lot of talent around them.
Kyrie was bribed by Boston to underperform in Boston.
Personally I don’t want to give them credit. Kyrie not showing up in Boston when we needed him hurts and I can’t get over that 😅

Kai needs therapy he shrinks when he sees Boston 😢
We just have to hope the Bucks come out of the East next year so we don't have to play in Boston.

Talk about trading Kyrie. If championship goes through Boston, there's no sense in moving forward with Kyrie Irving

And Kyrie has to do one thing to minimize the Boston hate. Apologize.

Kyrie's Indian name is 'Sucks in Boston'. Maybe one day Kyrie will go on a spiritual journey and the white buffalo will tell him to apologize. Until then? E. A. D. Kyrie.
There are rumors that Boston bribed Kyrie to underperform in Boston and this is the reason why Mavs played so bad in Boston.
The amount of negativity and people who know better than the actual pros is startling. When someone would've told us the Mavs are in the finals we wouldn't have believed that.
You’re a 🤡
Mavs should try aiming to get bogdan bogdanovic get luka's balkan brother here 🗣 he's also a really good shooter and can be a good playmaker too if luka / kyrie is off the court , another one they should try is joe harris another shooter. Then lastly assuming that we'll trade kleber & powell mavs would lack size & height so they should get another back up center/ forward that can come off the bench protecting the rim & rebounding. Lastly if mavs could get another 3 & D wing off the bench that'd be great
Greens growing role is dope

Mavs would have 3 players shooting 40% from 3s
Klay also gives you the ability to easily play him at Sg and you can always bring Djj back into the game for defense.
