    How do you choose whether using Photoshop or Illustrator? What are the advantages and differences between them?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Johny!
      Photoshop works with pixels, so it is best to use textures, soft shadows, gradients, adjustment layers, ...
      And Illustrstor is a vector based software, so it is best to use when you are working with lines, different stroke widths, and so on
      Also anything done in illustrator can be scale infinitely. You can print in any size and will remain high quality. Photshop you can't do that for example.
      There are lots of other big differences, but I think this sums it up

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ksenija!
      I use the pathfinder tab to do these shape modifications.
      Make sure to have the icon above the circle, then select both and chose Subtract from the pathfinder tab. That should work correctly!
      Oh and make sure to have the icon as a vector shape and not image. When downloading the icon from the website, make sure that it is a .svg file and not an image file (like jpg or png), otherwise, it won't work.

    Don't just show Photoshop because it's what most of us (including myself) are most familiar with. I learn more from seeing you using software that I don't use as often, and that makes me drop Shop for illustrator and such for some particular tasks, because it's more efficient. If I would not have seen your tut (or someone else's) on how to illustrator, I would've stuck to my inefficient Photoshop routine on such tasks, losing precious time.

      OU Graphics ok I use Revit, does it work the same or is there something I have to do when exporting the file?

      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not really a Revit user, sorry. I know it works in Archicad and should work in Revit. But theoretically, if you have your view in black and white and export as PDF, it has to work

    That looks awesome thank you for the tutorial. One question, which software do you use for screen capture and for adding the arrows and call out rectangles?

      Hi Dave! I use OSB for screen recording and the arrows and call outs are added in Adobe Premiere while I'm editing the video. Thanks for the feedback!

    thank you for your work...i am one of your new subscribers from few days ago. Till now I've been using photoshop for my projects but now it seems illustrator could be a quite handy too. I am up for both software. Also I am recently interested in small scale animating to explain the concept or diagram. like the part you did in the beginning of the video putting the box in place by hand. can you teach us how to do that?

    Hi! That was great video! I am wondering if you know any resource for line art? You know, especially when you are drawing a line art section.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wei! Yes, there's a book called Manual of Section:

    When I export PDF from Sketchup it exports as a lines only PDF with no fills. Do you know how to change that?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vaidas! Make sure to set the sketchup style to have fill as well. If you've got the line style applied it will result in a lines only pdf document. I hope this works for you 😁

    Where is the "Shadow" in thumbail?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nick! The shadow was done in photoshop. I just duplicated the hand and painted fully black. Then distort it and lastly reduced the opacity.
      I didn't show because I wasn't part of the illustrator workflow
