I like you as a TH-camr so much, and as a metalhead. Your are not only an extremist who wants to hear basic deaf and black refs and to hear only growls and screams. You have a larger Music perspective, and that’s the most important thing for a music listener. You are the perfect example for what a metalhead and t music listener in general should be.
I heard Sleep Token for the first time back in the New Year of 2020. The Night Does Not Belong To God is still one of the best songs I've ever heard.
I like your perspective on their marketing. I've seen a lot of people reduce their strategy to JUST merch. I like how you talked about trying to give every song the same amount of attention, more or less. Having every song being so different, means you almost NEED to release the whole album as a series of singles

Streaming doesn't make you money but you get exposure. I think Sleep Token releasing the album piece by piece just made people appreciate it more instead of releasing a whole album people can be done with in 30 minutes. I'm an album guy but its hard to find good ones now but Sleep Token came through 💯

Smart marketing don't mean shit if you're not amazingly talented like these guys. You don't become popular in progrock with just clever marketing.

Obviously haven't seen the video yet, but another example for smart marketing would be I Prevail. Their social media game is so damn on point, it plays a big part in why they have about 3 times the monthly listeners on Spotify as for example Architects despite only having 2 albums.
VeryBeiez I Prevail is also a very hated band for this reason. If you asked me to show you the most mainstream sounding hard rock band, it would be them. They annoy the shit out of me.
But there’s no denying that they spend a lot of money on FB advertising. But that certainly doesn’t make them good.
Nick Najduk I wouldn‘t necessarily say they are bad, hell their last album was actually pretty good, but it definitely hurts to see way more talented bands have 10x less exposure.

I don't know man, I can't totally see your point, and how well this strategy has worked for many bands and artists. But it also kind of downgrades the point of the existence of albums. Albums (sometimes at least) aren't just some songs mashed together. They can be a collective narrative, with their own sonic and lyrical identity. So having the attention span to listen to a whole album is in my opinion a skill that adds to enjoying a good album. It's like arguing that looking at many separate pieces of a painting is more efficient than judging the whole image
i see your point, but at least i for myself have never once managed to listen to a whole album first listen, theres the 3 or 4 singles that will be popular and maybe 1 or 2 more from the album, the others will simply be overlooked...
The song "Gods" by Sleep Token is a ripoff of "Goon Squad" by Deftones. I still love Sleep Token. Worship.
