Sending prayers from the UK to anyone who is stuck in the storm stay safe and look out for one abother too much hate in this world everyone pull together and get through this
Well im in the Katy/Houston Area which is getting demolished Edit: Thank yall for the concern as of now are house has got some water leaking in the house but we are doing ok for the most part and by the way my area has power still. Im also in the Katy part but roads are slowly becoming rivers
I was just telling my wife about the time you army crawled under barrels! Way to build a latch! You did something today. Now it's there tomorrow! Thank you for the inspiration! Keep making videos!
If you wash the eggs, they need to be stored in the fridge. If you don't wash them, you can keep them out of the fridge, and just wash them right before you use them. In the US, commercial eggs are all run through a washer, which is why they have to stay in the fridge.
Three things dude, 1 if you have a rooster nearby but not in with the hens they will produce more eggs. 2 keep the shells from your eggs and crush them up and add them to the feed, it will make their egg shells tougher. 3 they will see that string like a worm and will jump to get it. I'd shorten it. That's all! Love your channel!
Yeah the laying boxes need to be about waste high. They also need roosting perches. They won't always roost in the boxes and like to roost off the ground for security.
Egg-sactly ;) Chicken poop and dirt you just brush off when it's dry, with a soft brush. You don't wash your eggs until perhaps prior to usage, if you're worried... I don't but my eggs are pretty clean. An unwashed egg will last for four months without any problem un-refrigerated, if temperature is within reason. I keep chickens, ducks and geese and I don't wash the eggs nor keep them in a frigde. I will brush the eggs if needed when I give them to others but never wash. If your chickens prefer laying eggs a bit higher up then just raise the nests 2-3 feet or so. Also a clean nest (fresh straw) keeps the eggs clean.
Went out to do boat rescues in Houston, came back to find knee high water in our house. Lucky everyone I know is ok I just pray for people still stuck. Love the videos btw keep up the good work!
Matt you and your family are an inspiration to me thanks for the videos. You show me what it means to be a real American. Keep up the videos again thank you.
Jay Whaley the news said that the hurricane just hit the coast and going back in the water and should be heading back up on Wednesday morning... please be careful it is most likely gonna be harder than before... im in Hempstead and my neighbors pond over flooded and now we are stuck in (my family are okay no flooding in the house since the house is on a hill) but going back.... please be careful
Hello! I am from a suburb right outside Houston, Texas. And I want to thank you so, so much from the heart for you and your friend helping/volunteering in the rescue relief. It is SO much appreciated! I ran across your channel, somehow, and I absolutely love it! You guys are so awesome, and are officially helping me cope through our devastation! Stay safe and dry out there. Thank you again.
There is a natural coating on farm fresh eggs it will help them to stay longer when you wash them you shorten their longevity by a few days while it does seem weird because they have poop on them the shell will keep the egg part that you eat clean it really is best not to wash them at worst use a dry cloth to wipe them off
What pissed me off is the fact that I didn't have to leave because of the hurricane directly, but I had to evacuate because they released the reservoirs
wash the eggs nothing wrong with that i pick up almost a dozen a day. As far as nesting boxes are concerned u can use anything with some hay in it i use milk crates raise the boxes to the height of the bottom of the rain barrels.
we had chickens once. the same ones you have. you should start getting about 5 to 6 eggs a day depending on how many you have. the black ones will sometimes lay green-ish eggs. also we wash them too its fine to wash them and yes they need to be off the ground. we built our nesting area about 3 or 4 feet off the ground and it turned out great
you will be fine, but a ton of ppl are in a disaster & not, but good ppl are volunteering to help the real casulties of the hurricane. pray for them & all the animals. they need it.
We have had chickens for over 8 years and have found there is some sort of protective layer that if you wash off it will expire earlier than the ones you don't wash off but we just wash them right before we use them
Keeping those boxes primo is eggspecially important washed eggs have a shorter shelf life while clean unwashed eggs keep 2 weeks easy no refrigeration. You could have outside doors to nest boxes with a elevated bench outside for the help. My slept in trees before my Keshond/husky took responsibility. Townsend does an eggsciting egg preservation episode if you need eggs during a long sea voyage or safari hunt. [hardtack too]
just wondering, are you going to be going down the the harder hit areas to donate vet services?on top of just helping them out it would make for a great episode of vet ranch and raise awareness for the furry flood victims. just a thought, i completely understand if you arent or cant do something like that. for everyone else dont forget to donate to the animal shelters not just the people ones.
Right now, TH-camrs need to stay out of the way and let people work on rescues. Once the water clears out and the cleaning process begins then they should head in. it's not a great idea to go there now. Not with the blood contamination in the water, as well as leaking sewage.
The chickens will eat the eggs if they have a calcium deficiency which is what there egg shells are made of. Get them some crushed oyster shells from tractor supplies. Should solve your cannibal chicken problem. Or you could put your egg shells back in there food.
All the shells we'd keep, just boil, mash up and turn into a "treat!" for the girls. If they figure out they are cannibals, they're going to have to make a mustard egg, or find the offending chicken and cut it's head off in front of the rest of them. The mustard egg is a real remedy, I think the other is an old farmer's tale. I do know if you have an uppity chicken or roo, you just catch it and hold it upside down by their feet showing it off to all the rest of the flock, making sure he/she sees the rest of them too, and they calm down for a while. We used to have to do that occasionally.
Chickens will eat each other sometimes, _no_ idea what causes it. Had a runt little rooster get mauled and partially devoured overnight, the only way I noticed was the rest of them weren't eating as much and everyone had bloody beaks. One of those "Jesus Christ how horrifying" moments.
Jixijenga Most animals have a instinct to eliminate the weak members of the group and pick on them until they die, birds will peck at anything that looks different on another and when blood appears it also is something different that causes them to continue to peck until it's dead.
Matt just wanna let you know that i think Dr. Lee is one of the finest gentleman ive seen in my 20 yrs of existence in this world! Might be off topic but i just wanted to say it!

Well im in the Katy/Houston Area which is getting demolished

Plasma Gaming we drove through there not good man
We are SUPER proud of you Matt. Well done on putting a latch on the inside. Thank You!
Everyone who laughed at doomsday preppers now see the importance of putting a little food to the side
MeGaPuRe very true
No, we're still laughing at Doomsday preppers.
MeGaPuRe wait till The looting starts and people wonder why I have a sir plus of ammunition
you only need food for like a week. not years like doomsday preps
I mean prepping for events ok but doomsday "I've got a bunker just out of town and and filter for my urine" peppers are not so cool.
I was just telling my wife about the time you army crawled under barrels! Way to build a latch! You did something today. Now it's there tomorrow! Thank you for the inspiration! Keep making videos!
Hope you guys make it through
You should have used chicken wire to block the rain barrel
Peyton James I was thinking that when he started talking about blocking them from getting up.
It will be MUCH easier to remove the plywood than chickwire.
or just put piece of plywood down like a ramp so its uncomfortable for them and the eggs will roll off and they wont want to lay there anymore
Aluminum screen material would be fine
Why would you want the eggs to roll off, drop to the floor and break?
If you wash the eggs, they need to be stored in the fridge. If you don't wash them, you can keep them out of the fridge, and just wash them right before you use them. In the US, commercial eggs are all run through a washer, which is why they have to stay in the fridge.
Nice of you to give helpful information.
Jason Mizuno close, but no. US eggs are bleached, not just washed
US eggs are typically from White Leghorn hens which lay white eggs naturally, but they are also washed and bleached.
My car was totaled. Have about 3+ feet in my front yard.
Clarence Hibbard make a vid
Clarence Hibbard Sorry to hear that. My town southeast of Houston was devastated, but somehow, my family is okay.
Ashes H I'm south east as well. It's ridiculous out here
Clarence Hibbard it's getting close to that for me
Damn I'm sorry to hear that.... I hope your insurance pulls through
Glad you guys are ok.
For those of you wondering, Lincoln is saying he doesn't like Boss Baby at 2:30.
The chickens watched you pull that string. Tonight they escape 😂😂
Matt needs to watch Chicken Run so he knows how to stop them.
Clive great movie
LOL
Three things dude, 1 if you have a rooster nearby but not in with the hens they will produce more eggs. 2 keep the shells from your eggs and crush them up and add them to the feed, it will make their egg shells tougher. 3 they will see that string like a worm and will jump to get it. I'd shorten it. That's all! Love your channel!
LOL my first thought when I saw the string.
Cheffrin iii
Also the chickens won't lay on the ground because snakes. Gonna have to build some boxes up on a wall
Yeah the laying boxes need to be about waste high. They also need roosting perches. They won't always roost in the boxes and like to roost off the ground for security.
chickens will lay on the ground
If you wash the eggs, all you need to do is refrigerate them. If you don't wash them you can keep them on the cabinet.
You realise all eggs in shops have been washed, and they aren't refrigerated
garyhowe88 ummm No they are refrigerated weirdo
Egg-sactly ;)
Chicken poop and dirt you just brush off when it's dry, with a soft brush. You don't wash your eggs until perhaps prior to usage, if you're worried... I don't but my eggs are pretty clean.

Keeping the membrane will actually give the eggs about a 2 month shelf time and don't refrigerate them
I rather wash the eggs than worry about getting a deadly bird virus in your house that could kill you and your kids. All to save some eggs? Na.
Love your and you're family Matt! Your such great people I hope you guys make it out fine as well as everyone else in the great state of Texas! :)
I'm glad Linc got over his fear of thunder. That's actually the first thing I thought of when you started talking about the storm.
Proud of you Matt!
local texan hold back the hurricane at gunpoint
funker meme?
I want to see you shoot tungsten fishing weights out of a shotgun shell on demo ranch
yay. golf balls may work!
Matt dont wash the eggs untill you want to use them then you wont have to refrigerate them.
lilhojo123 it's the European method.
i have an extra fridge so i just wash em anyway but i do agree for if you dont have enough space
I love the adventure bible your kids have. I had the same one
Im glad yu all are ok
I'm in Houston rn, and all my friends have evacuated and im just chilling at my house watching OffTheRanch lol.
The Cruzer I'm ten minutes from Galveston and I'm just chilling too
The Cruzer same bro
Your stupid cause I'm stuck on a boat in Houston and if I could leave here I would
What pissed me off is the fact that I didn't have to leave because of the hurricane directly, but I had to evacuate because they released the reservoirs
I hope your ok in the end
Matt I think you need to build some sort of under ground shelter in the near future. You have the land and resource, better safe then sorry.
Daniel Donnelly and the cash
Lol, watch Matt build a fallout 4 vault 111.
wash the eggs nothing wrong with that i pick up almost a dozen a day. As far as nesting boxes are concerned u can use anything with some hay in it i use milk crates raise the boxes to the height of the bottom of the rain barrels.
yeah forgot to mention about add a golf ball.... oh wait nevermind and DONT LEAVE THERE EGGS in there they will eat them.
He can't raise the boxes because they are fixed in place because they have doors on the outside.
Did he not see the egg at 9:10
I wish you the best of luck matt
San Antonio squad
Matt: "They say it is going to rain very much"
Me: CHECK THE CHICKEN WATER SYSTEM!!!
Anony Mous lol
Anony Mous same
It has an overflow system... so no reason to check it.
Bruce Crossan i meant check it to see if it works as good as i think it works. Smh
Bad news... Houston is now a swamp. On the bright side I now have a closer place to ride my fan boat.
we had chickens once. the same ones you have. you should start getting about 5 to 6 eggs a day depending on how many you have. the black ones will sometimes lay green-ish eggs. also we wash them too its fine to wash them and yes they need to be off the ground. we built our nesting area about 3 or 4 feet off the ground and it turned out great
Man I got to tell ya I'm a big fan watching your channel gives me new ideas for things to do with my family thanks for making all the videos
*Finally! One hole drilled and maybe 10¢ worth of string = you not doing the "poop crawl of shame".* Good Luck with the eggs.
SnarkyPosters Wait until the chickens learn to pull the string!
you will be fine, but a ton of ppl are in a disaster & not, but good ppl are volunteering to help the real casulties of the hurricane. pray for them & all the animals. they need it.
Agreed dude
EDGE LENNOX Cajun Navy on our way
sweet man :)
HEY! I MADE THE COMMENTS ABOUT THE GOLF BALLS ON THE FIRST COUPE VIDEO!
My prayers goes to out the people by the coast....love you Texas!
We have had chickens for over 8 years and have found there is some sort of protective layer that if you wash off it will expire earlier than the ones you don't wash off but we just wash them right before we use them
If u want the chickens to lay eggs at a sertain spot. Just lay a fake chalk egg at the spot and they will lay eggs next to the fake egg.
Stef Vandendorpel Golf balls work great as well!
Omg Matts Description makes me laugh
Lincoln is gonna start a death metal band 2:30
domainjester hes actually pretty good lol
Lol bro
domainjester. New channel in 10 years. *Demolition Band*

Gotta have "ranch" in there somewhere. Death Ranch?
Your water collection system is really gonna be put to the test.
Prayers going out to you, your family, and your friends in Texas. #prayersfortexas #prayersforthesouth

1070jen he said hit him up if they need ne help in his last vid but if he gets flooded in he wont be doing ne thing
They can't get in
Right now, TH-camrs need to stay out of the way and let people work on rescues.
Once the water clears out and the cleaning process begins then they should head in. it's not a great idea to go there now. Not with the blood contamination in the water, as well as leaking sewage.

James Mccurry Take very tiny rocks almost like sand and give it to them
That's what my aunt and uncle do. Just give them the day's kitchen scraps which includes eggshells and that has never happened with them.

There are some fake eggs to put in the nest you dog not need to use golfbals for that
