For all of you that criticize him for mot using a corner bead roller and a hopper, this video is intended for home owners. people that have never done this rype of work, will never do it, except for the few sheets of drywall they're taping at home. These homeowners have mo idea what a corner bead roller or a hopper is. So, if you're a "professional " which I highly doubt, keep your comments to yourself and give this man some prop. I'm a professional union taper for 29 years. I can put up to 75 sticks of bead in and an hour, but I'm a professional and not going to sit here and criticize this man because his doing a great job. Now, shut up or load your own videos!!!

We have a bead machine that you punch in the measurements and it cuts the bead to that measurement while also muddling it and we still didn't do that many ... If you can do 75 with a fucking hopper and roller the bead must be all types of fucked up

I'm a professional , took me at least 5 years to have the skills this brother has, one time a client told me that mudding was probably the easiest skill he said it's spreading that stuff around easy,I just smiled
Finally, actual advice from some veterans. I'm getting enough practice but those little tips and tricks definitely save on time and energy. Some days I can fly and everything blends so well, then other days...not so much. Thank you guys for taking the time to make these videos. Once I am where I want to be skill and speed wise, I too will give back.

Another tip, you probably already know, but if I'm putting my own bead in I like to pinch it a tad bit. Help with the process. Great video though. The DIY's can definitely learn a lot from your videos!!! 👍

I am a veteran taper myself and I totally agree with you. I work residential so bead box works for me, but that is the best corner bead tutorial I have ever seen.

I did construction work most of my life on mostly high-rise buildings some apartment complexes and track homes. That being said I know a little about a lot including finishing drywall. Now when I had my house built 13 years ago, there was an older (70) Italian guy who did the taping. He used metal corner bead and then put mesh tape over the edges of that. I asked him why because I've never seen that before. He said you can run into is corner with a hand truck and it won't pop . This guy was the best drywall finisher I have ever seen. I don't care if it's Morning Light or evening light you cannot see any tape marks or where the joints are anywhere in my house. The absolutely best taping job I have ever seen and I was in the construction business for 38 years.

15 years on drywall. I enjoy watching someone else finish and tape Sheetrock. As said before everyone does it different. Most GC's wouldn't go for vertical paper corner bead. Usually most want metal corner bead. I'd still work with you all any day!

It's an art. You just don't get to this guy's level overnight. Texturing is an art as well.
As an everyday drywaller and repair specialist I find clinch on with mesh/hot mud word very well. Corners with stand plenty. Other products are spendy. Commercial jobs have large budgets. On busy corners I add more nails. Simple really.
Great vid for anyone that wants to know how to do it, but good luck to any of you that want to try for yourself. Being a taper for well over 25 years, I can tell this guy knows what he's doing and makes it look like you could do it too. As one poster below said, there's no wasted motions and things like blade pressure, angle, amount of mud, etc are Very tough to get right. Only through years of doing it will you get to this point. But yeah, excellent vid, Thanks Kody!

when I used to work we used to use the metal corner beads and bang it with a rubber hammer and a snapper to make it stick then fill it up with mud..
drywall mud in my humble opinion is an art. I am a GC and do all types of work. Building custom cabinetry, tile setting, wood finishing, you name it, but for the life of my I can not master drywall.
I can make it look goof but it takes a ton of time. What should take a skilled drywaller 30 mins will probably take me 90. My hat goes off to you guys. A nice sheet of rock is the backbone to any room pr space. Ugly seams - and it doesnt matter how gorgeous the remodel is.

I watched a few of your videos on taping. Chad did a fine job. It looks like he get's paid by the job so there is no goofing around or waisted motion. A good pro makes things look easy but it takes some experience to get the mix just right, load the blades just right, apply the right pressure just right etc. while not wasting materials on the floor. It would probably take me a day to do redo my 2 car garage, I'd be sore, there would be a lot more sanding and it wouldn't look as good. I'd gladly pay someone like Chad to knock it out in an short order.
I am in the middle of my first (small) drywall bathroom job and after hours of using joint compound etc I have a new appreciation for pros. I enjoyed watching this video because I have a lot to look forward to as I become more proficient. That job site looks amazing. Great video too. SUBSCRIBED

I have done lots of drywall taping and I still enjoy watching these videos. One tip to re touch on that they said that most probably didn’t catch is to thin out your mud on outside and inside corners or you want be able to get it out from under the tape. Or you will damage the tape trying to get it to lay flat. Awesome job guys keep it up. I don’t know if you have a tear away bead video but that would be another good one to do.

i did the same mud for two weeks an its easy once u have a good teacher like him to show u but for me i had to kinda learn on my own with a little help from the pros.

This is really great info. I do all sorts of construction on small projects from pouring footings and ledges to framing, electrical, and plumbing, but mudding and taping is still magic to me. It takes me hours, 5X as much mud as it should, and sanding like I'm building a teak boat. So watching the skill like Kody has is really inspiring. Thanks.
After Harvey flooding me in Houston this video makes me so jealous of his skills! He is like a sheetrock Samurai! Like he would be mad skilled in the kitchen too. He makes those taping knives look like he's at the Benihana!
You want to see daylight though the knife cus that shows that you have a place to apply a first coat of mud and get that slick finished look

Okey Dokey, here's a good tip, you can spot screws/nails with one motion top to bottom, then bottom back to top. But hey anyone that's finished more then 100 boards knows this already!

BZ1340 I know what you mean about endless seam. I have not come across any tricks myself. I just make sure to take my time flushing up the beads and double checking a few minutes later. One idea would be to pre-fill those joints after install so your first coat doesn't catch on any lippage. Also make sure to bend the metal part of the bead inward just a little so it also doesn't catch.

This dude 100% knows what he's doing, and he's good. I challenge anyone to belittle his skill. Maybe he's doing it differently that others see, but where I live- this is how it's done (though I see a lot of plaster). I do high end painting and no builder who wants quality as the #1 requirement hires out to the guys who are into maximum production. Just saying.

I am old school when it comes to corners. I just fold the Tape you use for the Sheetrock in half the long way and put it on after I put a beed of mud on both sides of walls. This is just in case you do not have a corner trim. Then sand afterwards

So good to see a taper that really knows what he's doing. I've been on so many jobs where they hire these bozos who don't have a clue and all the corners, inside and out, come out crooked. What really drives me nuts is when you have a bifold doorway jambed with corner bead and the beads aren't straight or even parallel. You cannot get even reveals with your doors when the jambs are like that.

Good job. My suggestion to homeowners though is to use a metal corner bead. More durable and longer lasting. Paper corner beads if you hit it will break and or leave a big dent in your corner Sheetrock. Just my opinion. Good work though.

I'm retired, and never seen this bead or method
We had the steel mesh cornerbead
I had a machine shop make a little tool like a small square with notches on it, based on my plywood prototype
I would simply hold it on the top and bottom of the wall corner , transfer the marks to the drywall
Then chalk line it, then hold the bead up to the chalk line mark and screw it on
Perfect every time, then instantly put the first coat of mud on to hide the chalk line marks
So, no one could figure out, how I got them perfect every time
And , how I could through a house so fast
As you could not measure back every time as the drywall was never perfect at the corner, and it took to long
Back then, only the fastest and best tradesman had a job
oh wow, thanks for the tip. i used to screw the metal corner bead to the stud first before the mud cause i didnt didnt want it to lift up but I guess you dont need to.

Black Majik, sorry if I didn't get that right. I like usg bead x on long soffits, it is paper faced metal. But if I have short runs I use no coat, it flexes so you don't get the straight line for long runs, but quick to install and I like the hopper application.
I still use the metal cornerbeads installed with a crimper. Use screws at ankle, knee, hip and shoulder height. Never had a problem and it’s quick

This is how i learned. I did insurance work for yrs starting in the 70s. New construction used the Ames machines and we worked the very same method and tools hes using there (i was a painter/taper). Thanks for sharing, 👍

Apply a short peace of corner bead under the corner bead butt joint that will keep the two ends lined up side to side and level with each other.
Wouldn't that create a bulge in the corner??

they make a hopper that applies the correct amount of mud on the corner bead. you can adjust the amount and the type corners bead you are using like square, bullnose both small and big, hell i have even used plastic arch corner bead in it.

Stay away from the metal bead if you can, unless it's the mesh type bead.

I started blue collar work aged 13 and im now 36. Ive covered every trade in home building but never mastered one career or finished college for carpentry. Now im installing elevators and i can honestly say that without a trade this type of work isn't worth damaging the body. I dont blame millenials for wanting an office job.
