    I went out sunday with some friends. We limited out on reds and caught almost a dozen mangrove snapper. Mangrove would only hit on a small hook with 25lb braid just letting it drop to the bottom slowly. Got a massive amberjack too, but we were a day early for him. He hit a pinfish so hard that it snatched my rod down and the butt came up and ripped my shorts almost completely in half. So I fished for a few hours with my tackle hanging out. Was a great day!

    Went out on the lady ann out of dauphin island yesterday - 6 amberjacks and 12 Reds. 200 lbs of fish in 6 hours.
    Nothing better than saltwater fishing. I’m definitely not ready to leave!

    Those beelines are a great eating fish! Always hanging in large schools in structure. I prefer them over Amber Jacks as far as eating goes. However those Amber Jacks sure fight hard!

    I went offshore fishing from St. Augustine 60 miles out and ran into a school of 50 plus pound amberjacks. After the third fish, my arms were like rubber bands. Those fish are some of the strongest to reel up besides big grouper. The problem is amberjacka are extremely wormy and most people just eat the shoulders. We caught about 20 and released 18 back into the ocean.

      Nothing wrong with warm water worms....can actually eat them raw and they pose zero threat to you, unlike Northern (I believe only freshwater) worms that are parasitic versions of shellfish, and can really mess ya up

    GO VOLS! Love AJ's, plenty of them off the coast of Jax when I visit, albeit a 90 minute boat ride to them. Flaky meat, yum! I do use a stiffer jigging rod and traditional round baitcaster to haul them out of 100+ water, 8oz carolina rig, on big braid and big fluro, 6/0 circle hook, and just cheap cut squid for bait, and keep a rig for Trigger (smaller J hook), and for sure for my favorite eater fish, Vermillion. You know you might be in trigger territory when your bait gets peaked to death or your sinker comes up shiny.

    On the Pacific their cousins, yellowtail, are called "pea fierce", strong fish. I saw a 35-pounder last ten minutes on tuna trolling tackle- a 6/0 Senator, 80# test line, stout 5-foot rod, Have fun!

  • @MikeS-kf4xs
    @MikeS-kf4xs ปีที่แล้ว

    ive been fishing for aj's for 40yrs and i use a penn senator 6/0... the old ones that are black not the red ones they sell now.... 80lb andes mono and 80lb andes mono for leader ... aj are not leader shy... try not to fish right on bottom even if thats were they are come up 20 ft. tighten drag all the way and even use plyers if i cant get it tight enough. mono and a good rod gives you a good amount of stretch for when they dig down. also ajs tend to like a fast bait aka blue runner... yellow tail jack... bar jack and porgy if your looking for bigger ones

    Hi Brad amber jack are good to eat and the parasite in the tail area that looks like a spaghetti noodle is not dangerous if you miss it and wind up eating it. I have a friend that came on the party boat I worked on back in the 1990's he owned a seafood market in Raleigh NC. He was cleaning an amber jack to eat on the boat for lunch another customer seen the parasite and asked if it was harmful to eat he said no removed it and ate it raw. It made several customers sick seeing him eat the parasite I told the captain he told him to never do that again on his boat. I love me a vermilion snapper very very good to eat any way you cook it been a very long time sense I had lane snapper also very very good.
