  • In this video we will do a walkaround of the G55 AMG, look at the interior, drive it and do a bit of gentle 4X4'ing as well (of course we engaged all 3 diff-locks).

    It’s not the tyres, it’s a front axle…

    Hi there
    I have question
You use the differential lock you must put it on n or while driving
If want to use the car in desert i use low range button with differential lock or only only 3 button on top
What difference between the differential lock and low range
    Thanks

Differential locks sends the same amount of power in either direction. So for the center differential it will send the same amount of power to the front and rear axle. The front and rear diffs will ensure that the wheels on that axle will turn at the same rate (in unison) even if one of the wheels on that particular axle lost traction. Without it the power will go to the wheel with the least amount of traction and just spin it away in all likelihood. You will use it in soft gravel, sand and rocky terrain. If you use it on asphalt you will destroy them.
To engage the diffs you will see in the video I have pressed the buttons. The yellow light at the bottom of the button came on where we requested the diff locks to be engaged. Note that the diffs only engage when the red light at the top of the button comes on.
For low range I will try to explain it, but this have to do with the transfer case (which is behind the transmission) taking a certain amount of rotations from the driveshaft and reducing it so that you can travel very slowly. You will use it with steep inclines and in rocky terrain (note that these are examples).
To engage it you have to be in neutral or park and press the button. It engages immediately. Newer vehicles you can engage it on the fly (however I do believe you still have to engage neutral and perform the request and then engage drive and carry on).
For dessert driving in the dunes depending on the speed you wish to travel at, but from what I have seen travelling with friends is that they keep high range engaged and if the sand is very soft engage the diff-locks. Also they deflate their tires to around 1 bar (14.5 PSI) and have a tyre inflation pump handy to inflate them when you drive on asphalt again.
