How to Use SHARPENING MASKING in Lightroom

- Here's one I literally use on EVERY image I process: Sharpening Masking. This is a quick and easy way to gain some control over the sharpening you apply to your images within Lightroom. In this particular example, I was shooting handheld at a longer focal length, with wind, and ended up using ISO 1600. Still a fairly clean shot but I don't want to make the noise more noticeable by sharpening it, too (and there's no point). Sharpening Masking to the rescue!

Quick, simple and just what I needed to learn. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Excellent. Way better than the boring one on the Adobe site. Thanks.
Haha, glad you liked it!
Can you summarise i couldn't understand wht is actually does?
The black and white overlay is showing you contrast-based edges detected by the sharpening tool. By adjusting the masking slider, you can control how much sharpening is being applied based on the level of detected contrast. For instance, moving the slider to the right means only *stronger* edge contrast will be sharpened while areas of less edge contrast - such as a clear sky or deeper shadows - won’t be sharpened.
Does that help?
@@MichaelRungPhotography yup thnx 🤍
Glad to help!
hey i use 2024 lightroom on mac but i cant see the detai option on the sharpening section,it just says sharpening and no other sub text like details or etc can u help
It's a little hidden: there's a tiny little arrow to the right of the Sharpening slider. Click on that to open the rest of the panel with those other sliders.
Oh thank you very much i appreciate it@@MichaelRungPhotography
