- This method shows you how to GUARENTEED change your name in TBC Classic. You NEED 2 accounts to do this. If you somehow manage to restore the character before creating the character with the name you are trying get rid of, you will have to wait 7 days before trying again. Sorry if its shitty quality, the point stays the same.

There is one major thing to be noted on this. Basically if u want to change ur character´s name at lvl 30 or higher u will need to have 2 wow accounts from the SAME battlenet. If lower than lvl 30 u can also use accounts from different battlenets. It is because it reserves the name for ur battlenet for 30 days after deleting (if the deleted character is lvl 30 or higher).

How to do it: (WoW1/WoW2 as example; you could use WoW4 and WoW8 if they are your accounts it doesn't matter)
1. Two active subscriptions e.g. WoW1 and WoW2 (I have not tried doing this with a friend/an account attached to a different email ie WoW1 and WoW1).
2. Open WoW1 and WoW2, make them Windowed mode, put them side-by-side.
3. Create the character on WoW2
4. Quickly click restore character on WoW1 after clicking 'Create' on WoW2.
Worked first try.
Sub for WoW2 did cost £10, name-change as a service is probably similar or more if they add it at all.
Still working in sod 5 July 2024. Took a few tries but it worked.
Need second account on SAME battlenet if character is above 30. Cheers!

shame it requires you to have the 2 account under the same email. I have 2 accounts under different emails and it won't work because of that.

Unfortunately I have to say that it is very poorly explained what exactly is requiered and what exactly you are doing. All that alt tab multi window switching with unsynced audio and multi click sounds from your mouse / keybaord really confused me.
The video itself is not mine, which is why I credited the person whose it is. My mic was on mute while recording so any clicks / keyboard presses are not mine! Hope you managed to get it to work

Didn't work for me. Once I deleted the character, I couldn't create it again on my second account. It kept saying "name unavailable"
The account has to be linked to the same email address

15/07/2022 IT DOES NOT WORK. 2 Accounts under the same email, it won't let me restore the old one 'already have a character with that name'. I literally did it in split seconds.
EDIT: IT WORKS. Secret is you need to write the name and hit enter (I was hitting 'enter world')
you probably restored the deleted character before you made the new one
Could I Delete my character, have a friend create a character same faction with my previous name, and then undelete him then I can get a name change?

For anyone still using this trick, you dont need to click or any business like that
just set the character names up as per the instructions, then;
Enter, Alt Tab, Enter in quick succession, the final enter confirms the 'you can only restore once per 7 days box'
makes it far more successful.
But name unavailable
You only got one try per week now.

FYI: just did it between another person's account and mine, not linked obv in any shape or form BUT! I was done on char level 26.

How did you do it? I can't even create a new character with the same name as my deleted character on another account...
I think character level of the one you want to delete and restore matters. If they are higher than 30 perhaps you have to wait 30 days. If it’s a lower level character a friend can do it for you?
Also, make sure it’s the same faction, the new one.
I have a hunch it’s probably important to fully create the new character and log in once before trying to do the restore. Basically confirm a new character will in fact successfully login with the old name once, then log it back out, delete it, and then, do the steps from the video. Also, you have to do it fast, but start off purposefully doing it too slow and gradually get faster. All that will cause is you having to try this multiple times.
If you do it TOO fast, the old character will restore with its original name and you can’t restore another deleted character for a week.
Doesnt seem to work as of 14/6-23, you just get a "There was a problem with your character" or something
well, i delete my toon but when i try to create it in another account it tells me "that name is unavailable"

Just did it successfully on SoD, I had the 2nd account on another monitor in windowed mode and hit enter, and just clicked ok on the other screen almost at the exact same time, worked great. Jan 16, 2024

What happens if you don’t leave your guild before the name change, but want to rejoin with the new name?
I can confirm I have just done this on TBC Classic and didnt need to muck around alt tabbing. I helped a random person in SW. He deleted his level 30, I created a character with the name he had then logged in and logged out. He then restored the character and it prompted his name change. So I can 100% confirm seperate battle net account does indeed work. Perfect for me to swap my hunters name to deathknight just to confuse the hell out of my guild :P
I just tried this with a friend and it said "a character already exists with that name even though he was deleted, did they change something? Update: I think it's because it has to be on your same account as it will let me create a lvl 1 character with that same name even though my other one is deleted.

Does Blizzard approve this kind of forced name change? Did you get banned?
Also: it worked better for me in windowed mode and with two monitors. This way it worked first time. Alt-Tab was too hard for me.
1. I have not gotten banned.
2. I don't think they can ban you for a bug in their game, with that being said, do it at your own risk. As far as we know its working as intended :)
@@mentalgodx They can ban you for a bug. WOTLK had a bug and they mass permaban people. A TH-cam reported a bug that he did and he got permaban

When trying to make the level one with the same name as the deleted one it says "name unavailable"

The enter + alt tab + enter needs to be near instant or it won't work
When i try doing it it say the Name is unavilable and i don't know why that is i use 2 accounts i have them both on earthsahker i delete the character with undesired name and then try making second one on the second account and it says that name is unavilable

the part i dont get is does he also make a level 1 character of the old name in the same account so if he messes up the try he can just keep trying instead of actually restoring? coz i see he can just keep trying if it messes up where he gets the "you already have an active character with that name you cant restore this character at this time"
Even if he messes up, the worst thing that can happen is you get a error saying that name is taken on your account. Basically just means you need to do it faster for it to work

same, think its patched, on client 1 i delete the char, client 2 cannot pick the new name at all, even when client 1 has the name deleted and waiting to be restored

I am getting a "name is unavailable" after I delete character and have a buddy try to make a new one on another account.
I do have a unique character in my name as well. idk if that matters. Looking for any assistance please
It's because your buddy on his account won't work. It has to be 2 different subscriptions under the same blizzard account. You'll need to make another subscription UNDER THE SAME Blizzard account. Then do as the video says, make sure the new character you make is the same faction as the one you deleted

no, your friend will get a “that name is taken” message.
This doesn’t work. Not sure when you were doing this but they have since reserved names of characters over level 30 for 30 days. It might work if you’re willing to wait 30 days for the old name to be released back from reserve status.
If it doesn’t work, you did it wrong. Zirene does it in the video and I did it yesterday. The clip was taken yesterday. It needs to be done on the same account, but on a WoW1 and WoW2.
Your name is reserved to your BATTLE.net account for 30 days not your WoW Account. So you need to be paying for multiple WoW accounts on the same BATTLE.net account

2 seperate Warcraft subscriptions. It wont work with separate bnet accounts

One account, two subs on that same account enables you to have two clients upon because it's two subs.

Not working as of 23JUN22. Name of restored character takes preference over the created one now.
What do you mean takes preference?
@@mentalgodx It seems they made it so that higher level characters will take the name preference instead of a lvl 1 new character. So when you hit enter on the lvl 1 and then the restore, it'll activate the restore'd charac first.

@@benmo7143 It needs to be the same blizzard account, a WoW1 and WoW2 under the same blizzard account. The new character you are making needs to be the same faction as the one you are deleting. As of 3 days ago this method still works

Yes. Both accounts need to be under the same email / same battle.net account.
@@mentalgodx How can you merge 2 separated accounts with different emails? Also someone mentioned somewhere that if you merge that 2 accounts, you can't enter in any instances with both accounts at a time. Is it true?
@@Wizzland As far as I know you can not merge 2 different accounts with separated emails. You CAN zone into the same dungeon on 2 accounts under the same battle.net, they have different instance locks ( 5 for each )
@@Wizzland but in a support ticket to blizzard. They merged different accounts onto one bnet for me. But this merges the whole bnet, so if you have diablo or some game that only allows one copy on both bnets, you won't be able to merge them.

Yes, you have to create the character before you restore the one you deleted. If you restore before you create, you have to wait another week

This might be a dumb question but how do you get 2 accounts linked to the same Battlenet
Go to the blizzard website, then when you go to subscribe, select the option to make a new WoW subscription instead of adding more time to the already active one

Sorry im kind of confused, when you add the second subscription are you paying for 2 accounts now under the same Bnet? or is it basically the same account but youre paying for it twice? Cause i added a subscription but it never asked me to create a new password or anything. Sorry if i seem dumb lol. Is there anyway you could make a video explaining more in depth how to do it.

@@mentalgodx Hey i got it to work today finally. Thank you so much for this. last question.. haha.. so when you go to wtf folder and delete the file. Youre deleting the file of the old named char correct? cause when i go in there now. there is two files one of the old char and one of the new char.
