I've got 35 years of singing Gospel with my Dad, who is a retired music pastor. I grew up singing by the time I was three. Mariah and I are almost the exact same age. I love this lady's determination. My Dad is in BMI'S songwriter database back to 1967. MC was a case study for my music business Bachelors. People say this lady's phoning it in. That's garbage. Listen to Patricia's absolute clarity of tone, and tell me Mariah can't sing.... you're not listening at that point. They're clearly both belting!!! MC can go full chest to whistle to head in 6 counts, with zero loss of clarity. I have 2.25 to her 5.25. Nobody on this planet has her range, or clarity when they go from D2 to E5 to C4. This duet is magical and otherworldly. I hope whatever becomes of their relationship (and Mariah emphasizing she loves her mother but has to establish boundaries is an interesting insight into what she herself wants) that they know they gifted us with something special. I also love the inclusion of family photos as well as Mariah being obviously pregnant while recording this. What a love letter to leave to her kids and their kids when they look back on her legacy.
