  • This is a medium length haircut with some wave and curl in it, leaving it longer to make sure it brings out those curls! It's a great haircut to practice foundational cutting. It's a classic haircut that will never go out of style!

    I wonder... did you also go to the neck to cut the tips and make them equal? I did not see that in the video.
    And also I wonder how his ear can be so hairfree despite the length. Did you cur around his ear or is it because you styled it backwards?

    • @AllenRayHair
      @AllenRayHair  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually just check for evenness on the bottom but I'm careful not to cut into the perimeter. I'm sure I just styled it back and with the curls, it naturally sits off the ears. :)

    How do you consistently take off the same amount all around the head?! I feel like that would be hard.
    And then... is it all kind of one length in all areas?

    • @AllenRayHair
      @AllenRayHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not naturally easy, I agree. That's where discipline and practice come in. :) I had very strict mentors. The most common thing for people, they tend to get longer starting from behind the ear. On the side of the head, it's a flatter area and behind the ear, the sections need to get smaller and the body needs to move quicker because the roundness is "sharper". Pay attention to those areas behind the ear and my best advice is to SLOW DOWN to watch each section, then cross check every 5-6 sections to make sure you're not getting longer (or sometimes shorter which means you're cutting into your section).

    Scissor cutting wet hair gives you full control, the best layering and the hair falls in place perfectly. Your cutting style is methodical and yet quickly done with no fuss and pleasing for the client, easy to maintain and nice to watch a talented stylist do such good work. Great job!

    Found your videos around may of 2020 because my boyfriend needed a haircut and we were in lockdown still. I now still cut his hair and I follow this video every single time. It yields great results! My boyfriend doesn’t let anyone but me anywhere near his hair with scissors so I am extremely appreciative for these tutorials. The one thing I still struggle with is sectioning, I can never get it symmetrical. Maybe that is because he has an ungodly amount of cowlicks, but I don’t really know. Are there any tricks to sectioning correctly every time?

    • @AllenRayHair
      @AllenRayHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I can't say much more than practice but one tip I have is that the head is not symmetrically round. It is flatter on the sides and the back. The corners behind the ears are a "sharper corners". A tip is if you're right handed, stand more left and move your feet. Especially around those tighter corners. These corners are where most people start going longer because they don't move their body enough. If it's getting shorter, then you're cutting into your guide. Also, cross check the hair as you move around the head. And of course, the smaller the sections, the less room for error. Make sure you can see your guide at all times. Good luck!

    I’ve never cut hair before but as we are in lockdown again I’m going to try. My son has hair that is slightly longer than this and very thick with wavy and curls being weighed down. He’s never had a short hair cut and I’ve always been nervous to give him a horrible haircut while I learn. Going to try following this step-by-step! Thanks!

    Thanks so much for sharing this very clear, unfussy video. One of my teenage sons has exactly this type of hair (wavy/curly, and really thick!) and although I sometimes used to cut it myself when he was little I've always been intimidated to cut it since it became more mature hair and ever more unruly so I've sent him to the salon for the past several years! He came back last time quite unhappy with the end result (they left it too much one longer length on top which made it simultaneously flat there and bushy at the sides, one side more so than the other!) and kept asking me if I could "sort it out", I wasn't at all keen but looked at various tutorials and agreed to try after watching this one. Success! It's not a perfect cut- his hair is VERY uncooperative! - but really does look much much better than the salon had done and he's happy with it. Thank you again!

  • @cnmailway1
    @cnmailway1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    One of the easiest to understand men’s Curly hair cutting videos! I tried this on my boyfriend with truthfully mediocre results. I was hesitant to take too much off. I think if I tried again and cut a bit more it would turn out better. But hopefully salons will open before that happens, for his sake.

    You are really gifted and I bet there are so many barbers and stylists that aspire to be able to cut as well as you. I'm sure your channel will be one of the most successful in your industry.
    Just out of curiosity, what scissors do you use?

    I always wonder if a client with wavy hair gets a wet haircut and the weight of the water extends out the length of each strand while cutting, then when it's dried, the client ends up with a much shorter haircut than they wanted because the coil/curl factor kicks in when the hair is dried. Why don't stylists/barbers cut curly hair dry? (Have the client wash and dry before the appointment.). My hair always ends up with a huge 'ba-doing' factor and way too much volume and misdirected waves/curls if cut wet. Surely there's an answer!

      Cutting dry is an option as well. I usually like cutting wet but there are many ways to do things. :)
