Dont worry too much about it, the goal of a junior engineer is to learn. That's imposter syndrome. The good people (skilled ones) have it. As long as you have the intent to learn from your mistakes, you'll do just fine!
Dont worry too much about it, the goal of a junior engineer is to learn. Just create a PR, get some comments and the next time you are looking over your changes that you are about to commit, think about the things that were commented on in your previous PR's and your code quality will improve dramatically in a couple of months
Dude you can summorize the entire software development field as "professional googlers", you are basically paid to figure shit out. No one is mad because you didn't know something, you only get shit for it if you are not willing to figure things out and make mistakes to learn how to do things. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes and you will be fine.
90% of the day emailing, messaging, and commenting on tickets. Checks out lol.
Haha if only it was 100% code...
when he says time to stand up i thougth that he will go out to run or gym but, its A REAL DAY an not as the others
Ahhhh the art of gyming
Haha I should get to the gym more...
I really love your video, it's more realty than others software engineer's videos. Coding is hard and painful sometime, but I enjoy when my code work fine in production and I feel happy when customer like our software and think it's helpful.
Absolutely! It can be a lot of work but also super rewarding!
This is more of what I was expecting when deciding to study to become a software engineer. Thanks for giving me a real glimpse into what that lifestyle is like! +1 sub!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it!
Finally an accurate account of a day in the life of a software engineer.
Thank you!
the cable management in the background trying to hide XD
Yeeeeeah, it’s bad 😂 gonna redo it
Amazing video! Finally a software engineer that doesn't spend his day working out, cooking, and when they finally get to the software engineering part: "now I just do some boring code" and doesn't specify anything. Thanks for sharing!
Besides that, could you maybe talk about salaries? Entry level, intermediate... That'd be awesome!
Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Salary totally depends on industry, location, and years of experience. With a few years of experience, dedication, and the right location, you can easily make six figures in the US.
Thanks for sharing this, I'm still in training and added scripting to my exercise schedule besides school. The fact that you can work your own hours (as long as you fulfill your contract) is one of the reasons I want to enter this field.
It's a great field to be in!
One of the accurate ones out there. Good job for keeping it honest
Thank you!
Me being a software engineer, watching this to learn how should I actually be behaving
Haha I'm not sure if I'm a great role model 😂
@@JustinHammond 😂😂
Im 16yo and I love programming and this gave me a lot information about this job. Thanks you and keep making videos.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! As many others mention, this is honestly the best video out there for showing a true day in the life. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😃
Finally a real day video... no more eating, walk, gym and work for two hours. And btw have a young assistant is awesome.
The young assistant is always good.
You're super hardworking!! Waking up early and hustling. And this is so real and relatable!
Finally I saw your comment with only 10 likes.
I've seen you everywhere senpai, from anime to memes and now here haha.
no offense but between waking up between 8:30-10:30am is not waking up early. I do agree that he is hardworking though.
@@viertelasiat What. I have my standups at 11 and i wake up at 10:55
Wake up early? LOL.
Initial thoughts. Here we go another programming video with obnoxious dance music. But by the middle I was grooving.
Great video by the way. Programming is not just fancy furniture and well catered food.
Thank you!
I mean a triple monitor setup + adjustable desk is still fancy
I agree about the rest tho
I come here every few month just to get that positive energy! It really motivates :)
Heck yeah! I’m glad you enjoy it!
Actually here again. Just wanted to let you know what a great job u did with this! :)@@JustinHammond
I love how you saved the best part for last: video games.
Indeed
Your desk setup looks good . Looking forward to do a similiar one with a thinkpad
Thank you!
I am going through the same situation with a baby toddler at home and debugging kernel beside her :)
You're lucky, our little one does not sleep througout the day
Lots of fun 😂
THANK YOU! This video is super helpful for managing my expectations. It's leagues more helpful than the other cliche hyper-hustler ones that just exhaust me watching them.
Tou appeared to me in outstanding videos and the truth is that I thought, what is he going to show? I finished my PhD in computer engineering a month ago and except for your little boy, I think everything else is identical to my life. I haven't seen any videos on this subject before, but I loved yours. I congratulate you!!
Thank you very much! 😃
Thanks for the honest, actual reality, day in the life of. No sugar coated b.s. , cookie cutter non sense. I'm coming from a tech support background > going into IT Support > then Software engineering. Nice to see what I'm "really" getting myself into. I'm still pumped about it!
That's pretty much what I did! IT -> Support -> Engineering. It's worked out great.
@@JustinHammond I appreciate you writing me back. The software engineer talent pool is thick with applicants and position. Hang on to it. It's stressful, but a dream job.
I mean those are real routine of other people aswell they are just more productive and I don't think there is anything wrong on that?
wtf?!?!? "i arrive at the office at noon. have brunch and coffee. pet the office dog. sit and code for 5 seconds. standup meeting! then another meeting. then more coffee. code for 20 seconds. lunch for 2 hours with all my co-workers! (also went for a quick jog!) code for 40 seconds. second-brunch and a mimosa using some of the champagne that i smuggled into work, teehee! code for 10 more seconds. play with the dog. home at 4pm PHEWWWW what a day!"
Those people no longer have a job after COVID anyway
THAT I can do!
🤣🤣🤣
Haha if only it were so simple.
Whenever someone asked me why I wasn't in at 10AM I asked them they they weren't in at 7PM and that usually shut them up.
I am SE and I confirm this video, except spending 1 hour at gym before go to work
Nice! I try to work out here and there... need to do a better job of it.
The most **accurate** video titled "Life of a Software Engineer", thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Definitely the best I've seen! Amazing! Now this is what we do everyday
Heck yeah!
Thanks for actually showing what you do. next can you show like a specific problem you have to solve and how you solve it
Unfortunately I can’t show specifics about my job (eg: actual code) but I will be posting lots of videos about personal projects on this channel! Make sure to subscribe to get notified of when they go live. You can go check out one I put up recently where I work through a problem: th-cam.com/video/WQ4lT7-yPY8/w-d-xo.html
Finally great to see an honest "Day in the Life of a Software Engineer."
Thank you!
A true Software Engineer who use StackOverflow . I can see him
Haha oh hi there!
As a programmer dad myself, this is accurate.
Hey there, future dad here working full remote in infosec. QQ : What's the actual impact on your workflow, having your kid around? I see this dude has his kid in the crib right near him, and on one side, I don't see it as much of an issue, but how are the ''bad days''? Any insight would be much appreciated.
@@calin8303 his kid is not yet a toddler. Toddler needs so much attention, while coding they will come up to you and asks to be carried or play. I hope that answers your question.
Glad you think so!
The lack of nap pods and massage chairs in this video tells me that we are truly capturing the essence of a software engineer's day. Thanks for keeping it real Justin 💪
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the more realistic Day in the Life vids I've seen. People should understand the actual work involved! XD
Right? Glad you liked it
Yes it truly depicts the real Software Engineer who is working remotely .
Glad I got it right!
0:44 You know this is a REAL day in the life of a Software Engineer because he treats his breakfast just like a programmer tries to fix buggy code
You're not wrong 😂
@@JustinHammond 😂😂
"If they don't check Stack Overflow they are lying"
I felt that.
It’s a thing for sure
@@JustinHammond Yeah I do it quiet often myself lol
Thanks for the most accurate video on this topic ever
This is exactly what I want to see as someone in their third year of a cs degree
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it
I would like to become a software engineer and this is my favourite video where I see how it actually looks. Thank you for a awesome and inspiring video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Stack overflow is bookmarked in atleast 3 different locations for me. For "efficiency" reasons ofc :D
Of course 😂
My brother is a software engineer and I can confirm this is accurate
How many work days he have in the week ?
Wahoo! Glad I got it right.
2:47 - The best part of the video 👌 So adorable.
Thank you!
This is a first day in a life I see with real tasks shown. GJ.
Glad to hear! 😃
I’m changing majors tomorrow, thought I could eat, workout, and enjoy a rooftop patio view all day!
Bahaha not always 😉
start the day with a healty breakfast: puts waffels in the toaster
Hahaha the only healthy breakfast I know 😉
Yes bro pair programming with the manger is hell 😂😂
Depends on the manager 😂
Finally, there is a programming doesn’t go to concert while working
Haha you know devs who go to concerts while working?!
That's about right. My day is similar except for pair programming. Plus I have to monitor a server from an outside vendor that is not very reliable. We do a LOT of meetings to go over our projects. All the teams come together once every other week to share new things we've learned.
Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience 🙂
Finally a video of real work day like a software engineer!!!!
Excellent, dude!!!
Thank you! 😃
@@JustinHammond you're welcome ☺️☺️
"Gotta start the day off with a healthy breakfast"
*Eats processed food*
You know it 😂
This is way better than forgetting the baby in the back seat while rushing to catch a train.
That sounds terrible! Glad I didn't forget him haha.
Great video, this is exactly how a day in the life of a software engineer is! (and we're 100% sure you are not an impostor)
Glad I passed the imposter check 😂
I am having to make a massive career shift due to my health and my work will pay for me to get a new degree (in exchange for working my soul away in a call center but it’s worth it to come away debt free). I am considering data analysis and software engineering. This is so raw and actually has helped me learn what I want to do (software engineering). Thank you.
Glad to hear! Best of luck
I'm glad I chose mechanical engineering as my program and left programming as a beloved hobby. This is a really nice video though, thank you for sharing
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
