    • @stentorofsparta3576
      @stentorofsparta3576 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s how it should be. Legends deserve the honor of having their numbers retired. They were key pieces of the organization. There aren’t many players of that caliber. Whereas a pair of fists on skates like Neil, there’s a ton of those guys. Guys like him are relevant cause the fans like them & in Neil’s case, he played in Ottawa for a long time. But lots of guys could’ve done what he did. Neil wasn’t ever an integral piece of the organization.

      @@stentorofsparta3576 lmao. Tell me you've never watched a Sens game without telling me. Niel was a lot more than just fists. His role in the team and the energy he brought changed the team's demeaner completely. If a superstar doesn't win a cup but scored plenty of goals than he's accomplished the same as Neil yet you're saying only production is what counts in a team.
      Leafs are proof that production without out Heart and Grit get you eliminated in the first round

    • @stentorofsparta3576
      @stentorofsparta3576 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluejay7815 grit, toughness, heart, intangibles, all that good stuff. It’s all important to a team for sure. But someday down the line, the bolts & their fans like myself will look back on the legends. It was ultimately guys like Kucherov, hedman, stamkos, & Vasilevskiy that got it done for this franchise. The studs, the legends. Guys like maroon & goodrow were important, but we didn’t win cause of them. And no, even without cups, stammer & those guys would still be legends of this sport. They’re high end players. Rare players. The maroon’s and Neil’s of the world aren’t hard to find. If Wayne Gretzky didn’t win a cup, he would not be on equal footing with Neil.

      Here’s a time where I’ll actually pump the habs tires. The way you really know that this was an extremely odd decision & shouldn’t have been done is could you picture an organization like the habs retiring a goons number? Absolutely not. So I guess the sens are content with being second rate & not even striving for excellence.

    Not to mention, not many "grinders" get their number retired, and Neil had one of the most successful careers in that role throughout the history of the NHL, and to do that for 15 years for the same team and to have the impact he has had in the community, it just goes to show that hard work pays off. Chris Neil absolutely deserved this.

    Chris Neil's #25 should not have been retired by any team in any league, given that his major NHL accomplishment was serving over 2500 career penalty minutes.
    By the same twisted logic, Milan Lucic's #17 should surely be retired in both Boston and Calgary, given the huge difference in statistical offensive numbers between Lucic (565 career points) and Neil (250 career points).
    That's just patently absurd.

      Lucic having played his entire career in Boston would have maybe had the same thing happen, Neil was a Senator through and through, he turned down trade offers and even more money to stay in Ottawa.
      If all you can see are his Pens than you obviously have never played a team sport. Most of your type of arguments are stupid and ignorant, Oats, Sundin, Iggy, Dionne have never won a cup so yeah they put up of points but it obviously didn't help their team in the end.
