  • It's time to start tearing down this ATV engine. The CVT clutches and the wet clutch shoes have to be removed before I can completely tear down and rebuild this motor. These ATV/UTV CVT clutches can be a pain to remove! I have to find replacement wet clutch shoes. TOOLS USED ↓↓↓↓

    Does anyone have a video on replacing the oil seals on this exact engine ?

    Thank you so much for this series its answered alot of questions i had about opening this engine up to replace my neutral position sensor

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. Yea, the neutral position sensor is easy. It's just 2 bolts. Just be careful because there are 2 little pins and 2 little springs behind it. Don't loose them.

    Great videos man you're a lifesaver! I have machine shop experience but with particular parts. Bought a 02 vinson and wanted to have a peak at the clutch as i found clutch material (also some shiny shavings, magnetic..) in my oil sump so i figured best i tear into it, unfortunately Ebay does not ship the clutch shoe rebuild kits to Canada.. Local shop $310 for whole wet clutch assembly lol I am hoping no one took the oil sump off ever in its 14000 kms of use and pray its just normal wear. Idling it sounds great, revving sounds great... if i put it in gear and drive i hear a whine that matches the rotation. when i let off i hear some chatter. I checked/replaced all wheel bearings also, i do see my drive belt has some wear marks on top side so just wondering if the deceleration is causing backlash and thats what i hear.... sounds more deeper int the internals to me but maybe im paranoid lol

    Matt your video on the Vinson is awesome, I've never taken one apart and you are an immense help. My wet clutch is shot and I ordered the rebuild kit, however I can't find a video anywhere on how to do the rebuild, would you have a link or advice? TIA

      Thanks! Is it just the clutch or are you rebuilding the whole thing?

      I’m putting the new parts into the wet clutch. It has the fingers as it’s an automatic. Looks straight forward but wanted to have an idea before I took it apart. Thanks

    @5:30 mine has a smooth metal sheath around it about 3 and 1/2 inches long making it impossible to pull off, especially by hand. What do I do?

      3 jaw puller, I see you've answered this already.

    Hey man I have one just like yours same year same everything my issue is when I put it in reverse it wants to spit and sputter but it revs up just fine in neutral but it takes a lot of horsepower for it go forward with it but once the RPMs get up to about 500 it takes off like nothing to it somebody told me that it was a sensor that’s inside the motor I see that sensor they were talking about do I need to replace that is the wires that goes in to the side of the belt casing

    I have the same Vinson and the gear position sensor got the wires chewed off it right above the outer case where the grommet comes out of the inner case. Do I have to drain the oil before I take the belt covers off to replace that sensor?

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sensor wire in this video is behind the clutch. Yes, you have to drain the oil to get to it. It's a real pain to take all that stuff off. If it was me, I would try to solder the wires back if I had enough left and can match the colors right.

    • @RobertJones-vm9mc
      @RobertJones-vm9mc ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattsShop my gear selector doesn't work because of those wires being gone but the question I have is would it put the bike into some kind of limp mode because it acts like there is a rev limiter in Hi-Lo or reverse neutral or Park?

    • @RobertJones-vm9mc
      @RobertJones-vm9mc ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattsShop a rat chewed those gear position sensor wires off right at where they go into the case so when it's out of park it won't illuminate on the gauge dash. The bike won't go over 22mph as at wide open throttle it has seems to be a rev limiter no matter if I'm in park, neutral,high or low range. I'm wondering if anybody knows if the gear position sensor isn't working properly it would put it into a limp.mode? I know the reverse has a rev limiter so if the four-wheeler can't tell what position the gear is in I'm wondering if it would be possible that the rev limiter would be no matter what position I'm in. The bike will only go 22 miles an hour in high range

    Just pulled my cover off 2003 Vinson. Oily black wet gunk everywhere. Seal I suppose. Don't have a big enough socket to go further. What size is the socket and will I damage anything if I pressure wash first?

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pressure washing the cover if it's off won't hurt it. Don't do it if you'll get water in the engine. I don't remember the socket size.

    I can’t get my wet clutch off on my 700. It’s pressed on and I know there’s a tool for it but I have no clue what it’s called or what to even look for.

  • @DylanSika

    My Vinson is taking more than normal revs to "engage" drive and then it launches forward. Is this an issue with the clutch being "sticky" and taking extra revs before it engages?

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be a worn out belt and/or a burnt up wet clutch.

  • @Johnny-ip4mk
    @Johnny-ip4mk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My Vinson won’t go any faster than 10mph. It’s like driving in first gear. Am I looking at a worn belt or clutch issues? My son driving it up hills in high gear if that helps any.

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd start with the belt, CVT weights, and then go to the wet clutch after that, or drain the oil and see if there is any clutch material in it. Most of the shavings will be stopped by the screen under the four small screw cover where the oil drains from. You can pop it off and check. It's an oring that seals it up.

    • @Johnny-ip4mk
      @Johnny-ip4mk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m hoping it’s just the belt. It’s an ‘03 with about 1300 miles. I bought it used a few years ago. I could never get it to go into low gear so I just drove it in high. I never really beat it so it ran fine in high. I let my teenage son use it and I know he burned something out. He finally admitted that “it kinda wouldn’t go up any hills” lol. Thanks for the info. I’m subscribing to your channel 👍

    Can't you just grind or smooth down the groves on drum, then rough sand it for new clutch shoes to bed in, like brake pads.? Good dianostic on worn clutch. Can't wait to see it complete.

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently, the groves are supposed to be in the drum. I looked up pics of the new part and it had groves in it too. I'm not going to worry about it.
