    Ahh I get it, so Tritan (blue-blind) removes the remaining colours that he can actually see, so stacking it with his eyes, it removes every colour he can see, leaving it colourless.

    • @Tynach
      @Tynach ปีที่แล้ว +76

      Not quite, actually! That would be the case if he were 'red blind' (protanopic), but he's not. Protanopes have 'red' receptors (L cones) that have mutated to behave like 'green' receptors (M cones), and tritanopia is when the 'blue' receptors (S cones) behave like M cones. So in that scenario, all the receptors are actually just acting as M cones.
      However, he's 'green-blind' (deuteranopic), meaning his M cones have mutated to behaving like L cones (the exact opposite of protanopia). So, when he sees an image simulating tritanopia, he's actually seeing what M cones see, but through his S cones. Similarly, when he views a simulation of Protanopia, he's seeing what M cones see, but through his L cones (which include the mutated M cones that behave like L cones).
      That's why there's such a big difference for him when he's simulating tritanopia, but for us it looks closer to the original than the other variations. S cones don't contribute to our sense of luminosity (how bright or dark colors look), so for us tritanopia simulations have the same luminosity, and both greens and reds are sorta preserved, and blues look close enough to greens that we don't notice a problem at a glance.. But for him, his method of differentiating between blues and greens/reds has been hijacked by the color channel he completely lacks. That's why he keeps calling it crazy.

    • @Tynach
      @Tynach ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rachel2142 It depends on the type of green. I recommend finding a picture of what's called a 'chromaticity diagram', which will look like a sort of horseshoe-shaped color wheel with a triangle in the middle, and putting that through a color blindness simulator (the one in the vid's description will do).
      Doing this will show you what types of colors can be 'confused' by people with different types of color blindness.
      It might also help to look up Copunctal Points and Confusion Lines. 'Colblindor' has a good article with visuals overlayed on top of a chromaticity diagram.

    For those unaware, the glasses that “fix” colorblindness only untangle a few wavelengths. It makes something green look darker than something yellow when to a colorblind person they usually look the same. I’d imagine by taking the glasses of and putting them on a few times you’d be able to identify what’s one and what’s the other easier, but it doesn’t let you see colors that you don’t have the cones and rods for

      I got the same thing as Aethel but not as drastic. I'd guess about 0,5 and Aethel is a 1,0. And yea I agree the colour tests and filters you see online are so drastic and over the top. But I don't think you should worry about bothering people. I think that thought speaks more about introvertedness, shyness etc. Just set up the question. Do you mind if we talk about your colour vision? I'd wager you just make it a bigger thing than it is.
      I have a friend who sometimes just suddendly bursts out: "What colour is my shirt?" and she does that when she is wearing red.. :P So at least for me I just see red and green in a different tone. Maybe not as vivid as someone with a normal vision but I can tell the colours apart. Compared to Aethel I could see the pictures were different. I think the colours just blend more together. Like on the isihara colourblind test. Its the one with different sized and coloured balls smashed together and some of the balls form a number. When doing that I fail some of the pages. I can point out individual balls and their colours. That one is green, that one is red etc.
      I used to want to be a pilot and then a police officer but both of those professions did not accept people with red/green blindness. Since then those requirements have been lifted. I'm from Finland so these might be different where you are from. And I guess the reason for that is that you can still tell the different shades of colour apart.

    It is interesting how both pink and green become grey, which means that if you stick all the pink and green cat girls together (Nyanners, Girl_dm_, Rosedoodle, myself, Nekomata Okayu) Aethel would think everyone's hair is grey.

    So ay approximately 14:00, from what I gather I beleive the reason that Aethal finds the Tritanopia image so strange is that those with Tritanopia don't really see blues, Aethal himself cant see greens and alot of warm colors such as red & pink.
    What he can see is mostly blues, so a Tritanopia image removes all blues and were left with green and red to perceive but Aethal's eyes remove a lot of the warm colors that are left.
    So for Aethal, the Tritanopia image is probably very "muted" and near colorless.
    This is just a shot in the dark with my current understanding of how this.
    Edit: lol, just got to 14:23 where chat mentioned color blind stacking, which is a much simple way of putting it.

    I'm guessing the reason he thinks it looks blurry is because by removing one color channel youre essentially reducing the light/dark contrast of parts of the image by about a third.
    And while his eyes cant pick up the different shades of the colors being removed, they do pick up their brightness, because those things are handled by different parts of your eye.

      @Austin_2600 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      "something you get used to" wouldn't apply for color blind people. Since they're blind to those shades it's "all they've ever known"

      There are people who have tetrachromia (4 colors) and our colors can seem "washed out" compared to them, but we're doing fine. Losing the ability to see a color would suck, but if you've always lived with color blindness, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

    My dad is green-red colour blind, the glasses are specialized for each specific type of colour blindness. For some people it takes a few hours for the glasses to start working, then again those types of glasses work better outside where more colour light spectrums can actually reach your eyes :)

    when you already see life through the metaphorical lens of deuteranopia, looking through a tritanopia filter in addition to that makes any color differentiation impossible, resulting in a completely achromatic view.
    yeah the pink and blue pop out to many of us bc we can see them contrasting, but he didn't see that in the first place. Tritanopia filter just yoinks the rest of the colors. Colorblindness squared.
    Then all the people not looking close enough to see that *her skin is pink* just go "omg it looks the same" dude do you know what different colors are. like what they physically are in wavelengths of visible light.

    I work in a craft store and I've had a few older gentlemen sent in to get yarn ask me about colors cause they can't tell. I've had some tell me they were color blind. It's also interesting talking to people about the particulars of the shading they see. Like if you see red better than blues something might be more pink versus purple. I don't think even people who aren't color blind see the exact same colors. Still, it does give some interesting perspective. I imagine games that rely on identifying color can be quite challenging, depending on severity.

    14:26 I'm assuming Aethel either sees tritan like we see deutan, or he only sees tritan in monochrome, but I think that's due to him cranking it up to max severity.

    • @Aeyrgran
      @Aeyrgran ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah, Tritan and Deutan are almost opposites, so stacking a Tritan filter on top of his natural Deutan filter means the image has basically no color at all

    • @AGD_27

      Because his blindness is pulling out all the green and a bunch of the red he sees mostly blues through so when he sees a pic that's had all the blue pulled out he sees basically no colour

    Yes! I used this exact website after that RubberRoss episode to see if I can deduct what color blindness he has by comparing his color palettes with character colors under those filters... and I thought he's Red-blind. Green-blind was second best guess. They're really close and barely different. Was pretty close, though.

    Not gonna lie. I have full color vision. But according to my optometrist, I am slightly red deficient. Reds just don’t pop as much as they should for me. Things that are red look darker than they should be, but I still see red. Messing with color blindness is honestly kind of funny. My friends do it to me all the time. I also have a friend that is completely colorblind. He wanted to try to solve a Rubiks cube. You can guess how well that went.
