I went to Wal-Mart in Alpena, Mi. Last night and I saw your van parked there. Must say I got excited to see your van. It was late like 9:40 pm . I drove by and clicked a pic while passing. I had to show my sister. We were just talking about you being in michigan. Just wanted to say hi. Happy travels. I love your channel
Hello from mid michigan. I suggest getting a State Park recreational pass. It's $40 but allows so much access to day use areas and even places to boondock at. Ossineke state forest has a beautiful dog friendly beach day use area. I would suggest talking with locals in the areas to find our favorite spots. Safe travels to you and Joey!❤
Joey is one of the luckiest dogs to have you. I wish all dogs were treated so well. Thanks for taking us along with you on your travels. Be well. Be safe.
I had to go get a coffee refill when I saw your new video up! Now settled in to watch and am annoyed at your beach not allowing dogs. That looked, to me, like a sign put up by a person not the park. But omgosh! You found such a great spot after. I love iOverlander for finding spots to stay both in my RV and when car camping. I even spend time looking at it when I'm not traveling to check out places I might want to go to, lol! I understand that feeling of loss at the end of a book, lol! What a great park in the rain! Always says something about a place when the washrooms are clean.Bonus on the electricity at the tables! Be safe!-Sue
Hi Chantal and Joey. You can always stay at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops, too. They also have a great selection of camping goods to meet your needs and can bring Joey into their stores. The staff will let you charge your Jackery there also while you walk around. It's completely free and you don't have to buy anything. Good luck and happy travels!
Tawas looks like a nice town and so happy it was dog friendly for your little Joey!! Your darker hair and mascara look stunning on you :-). I'm happy to see you back on the road and am enjoying your continued adventures !
Great to see you two back on the road. I'd send a note to the website about that 'no dogs' place since it was listed as the opposite. Lake Heron sunset - GORGEOUS! Thanks for taking us a long. You two be safe.
I'm in Northern Illinois and you've inspired me to visit the Great Lakes! You are a wonderful person and I wish you safe travels! I hope the dog friendly sites are everywhere you turn going forward! I really appreciate your content and I have learned so much from your channel. I'm just getting started as a part-timer but I have big dreams. Give sweet Joey a little hug from Illinois. By the way, I just watched your live yesterday and I feel safe saying we all LOVE Joey's cute little face (teeth) so maybe a sticker that reads "Kisses from Joey" (no drawing even necessary since you don't like how they turn out)
Great video! I love it when the timing works out that you are making your coffee when I am making my tea. Thanks for letting me join you for Sunday morning caffeine time 😊 kisses to Joey's furry little face ❤
You’re in my area 😎 Tawas is beautiful and I loved taking my lab bloodhound mix to that exact spot! She loved the water. I am glad you came north and saw a much nicer area. Northern Michigan is by far the best for nature views .
I'm from Michigan and have family and friends in Tawas. I hope you keep going up 23. It's the most beautiful drive. Make sure you stop at the lighthouses along the way. Your video was posted 3 days ago so I'm a little behind. I'm a new subscriber. Have a great time!
I would and do take my dogs on beaches like that. If someone tells us to leave we do. It rarely happens. Lots of those signs are unofficial and put up by dog haters. My dogs stay leashed and only hang with me.
You take beautiful time lapse angles and light we feel the happings of a dimensonal shift.Cool ! Hi Joey, mom will find the bestest place soon, you'll be able to exercise once again.🕊️🐾🐾 13:59
The UP is more fun after labor day when it slows down a bit until Oct 15 After fall color season it starts to get cold Be careful of steep areas and rip tides Welcome to Michigan Much Love🫠🩷
You're going to love the UP! It's like a different world. Lake Superior has beautiful rocks- I made jewelry for years with some of those treasures. Enjoy!
Im sorry your visit to Michigan was disappointing. I live here and absolutely love it here. Being surrounded by the great lakes is amazing. I do have to say though, that I've never had to worry about places being dog friendly, so i wasn't truly aware of how limiting that must be. Your gps was pronouncing Tawas correctly .. that is a beautiful area, along with so many other areas along the water. I hope you find more dog friendly places in the U.P. Travel safe .. its always a pleasure to watch your journey ..
I'm from Northern Michigan. Can I suggest to you, traveling to Manistee, Frankfort , Empire, all these towns are on Lake Michigan plus SO many more. We also have Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore it's beautiful . Michigan is a beautiful state. Safe travels!
Good morning from Louisiana! It's going to be 103°F here today. When you say it's hot in the 80s or 90s, that would be a cold snap for us! 😂 I love you and Joey and I love your channel! Blessings to you both! Have fun! ❤❤😊😊
Thank you, Sara!! And yeah, you wouldn't find me in the South in the summer in my van. It would be genuinely dangerous. But 90°F with humidity is still dangerously warm to be in a minivan with a dog.
I'm a Michigander also.....but I prefer small towns on the lakes. Much more hospitable. We've traveled all around Michigan & appreciate small town ambiance. We don't travel to spend our money on coffee mugs & sweatshirts, we love what nature provides. I abhore college towns......too many people. Personal preference is all
You are awesome you’re about the only one that I watch on TH-cam now with Van life or car life because you’re so informative. Thank you so so much for being so informative.
Awww…..sorry you don’t love our state. A good time to visit is October. The colors of the turning trees are beautiful! ….And the weather is cool and crisp. October! Cracker Barrel’s are convenient. Right now, hopefully you can check out Traverse City and take the boat ride over to Mackinaw Island!
If you haven’t read spark of the everflame it’s great.. the 4th and final book in the series should be out late October.. in case you needed a rec based on your two series read 😊
I would've loved to meet you.. I live in Standish. You probably drove right through here. I hope Michigan doesn't disappoint too much. I completely understand the frustration with the no dogs on beach. Safe travels.
I wish I could have been on the road to come and meet you. I have been over there, and it is beautiful. I live in mid Michigan and am going to go camping in pinckney next week. I love watching your basic journey.
I'm not sure which direction you're going, but the up of Michigan is much cooler than lower Michigan also if you're going through and going back down towards Arizona are you going through Wisconsin Wisconsin has lots of lakes and beaches that allow dogs!
Yep. I’m not through the video yet so I don’t know what is going to happen next. But I can tell you that I drove 1300 miles, to refresh my spirit after my dad died. I spent four years caring for him end of life in my home. And I was crushed. And I got all the way to Michigan and couldn’t do anything with my dogs. I’d like my tourism dollars back.
I would not have paid attention to the faded sign. Pay attention to what you found online. If they changed the rules, they would do it online also. As aa resident of Michigan, the $13 a year with car registration for park support is worth it to get into the parks free. I use it at a local state park to dump my tanks. You and Joey are looking great!
Tawas pronounced correctly. I would have gone on the beach anyway because of the janky sign and not official. Tawas state park has a dedicated dog beach. I'm from Michigan and I avoid anti dog beaches when looking to camp in the area. It's a bummer sometimes. Stay safe and love to Joey!
I'm sorry your having trouble finding dog friendly places. I have travelled all over Michigan with my Charles and Georgie and didn't have any issues bringing them anywhere I went. Even Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore allowed dogs, hopefully it will be better once you get to the UP
Oh, BTW…. If you like Tawas, you have only scratched surface! The further north you go the more beautiful it gets. Make it into the Upper Peninsula (U P). You will be amazed:) PS…Fun fact… we who live south of The Mackinac Bridge (pronounced MackinAW:) are called trolls and north of the bridge are called Yoopers:)
Although I know you've probaby moved on from Bay City, if you headed a bit more south to Saginaw, they have a lovely Japanese Garden and Cultural Center. Also, Midland is a cute town just west of Bay City. You're not far from me now.
You know, there are bad dog owners who think everyone likes dogs running on their beach blankets, shaking off on them, seeing dog poop cause they are not responcible dog owners. If dog parents would be responcible and thoughtful, it would be different.
Good Morning from Atlanta Michigan, not too far from Tawas City ( I’ve always heard it pronounced Tah-Wahs, as you were saying it. Also, Michigan People are called Michiganders (think Goose & Gander For pronunciation). Idk Y 😆. Alpena a little north of you has some nice parks. As you start to come inland, you’ll probably pass Atlanta, so if you need to know of some spots, reach out/ comment & I’ll let you know of some spots. There are also parks, Jackson Lake State Park that has some amenities, and Clear Lake Camp; the latter has a day camp that is really nice. The beaches & areas definitely get more accommodating as you go North bc it’s less populated In the UP along Hwy 2, there is a rest stop that is really nice for overnight, with bathroom amenities & from the parking lot, you can walk to Lake Michigan. Good Luck! 🍀 🐇 ✋
I went to Wal-Mart in Alpena, Mi. Last night and I saw your van parked there. Must say I got excited to see your van. It was late like 9:40 pm . I drove by and clicked a pic while passing. @@roseSaterstad that's awesome!
Right! That’s not an official sign and if it’s advertised as dog friendly I would never have left and I’d have walked Joey!!
Totally agree with Samantha, I would've ignored that unofficial sign
Absolutely. I am law abiding but that was bs. Question Non Authority! :)
Please don't give up on Michigan. Please head up north to check out the northern lower peninsula- and then check out the UP and Lake Superior!
So glad u found Tawas, it's my happy place. Hopefully that redeemed michigan a little. The more north u go the better it gets!
That sign isn't official, so i wont do it. That could have been a mean person just putting it up.
My thoughts exactly
That's what I thought!
I agree. Not official. But I get why also. So many people who won’t pick up the dog’s poop. And we bring our kids to these local places.
That was not an official sign.
Agree! 👍
Sorry you have had a rough go of Michigan so far I promise you the best is yet to come. The upper peninsula is beautiful and a lot less people.
Use that beach, that No Dogs sign looks like some hobo put up. It would take a more official city or county sign in good repair posted appropriately.
Your hair looks really nice that color. I'm glad you and Joey found a nice place to hang out.
Be a rule breaker once in a while Chantelle! Especially if no ones around 😂 go on that beach, with a janky no dog sign, with Joey ❤
Haha 🤣 Just trying to be respectful of the locals.
@@MyBasicJourney just say I’m sorry i didn’t see that sign.
That was a rinky dink sign. Didn’t look official at all, I respect your decision to obey.
So glad you’re back. My condolences on the loss of your father❤️
We call ourselves Michiganders ♥️ Upper Michigan is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!
Joey is one of the luckiest dogs to have you. I wish all dogs were treated so well. Thanks for taking us along with you on your travels. Be well. Be safe.
If you go further north be sure to go to traverse city and sleeping bear dunes
Oh yea, Traverse City an up north lower peninsula jewel. Also, Mackinaw Island!
Nancy's always right!😂 Thanks fir sharing beautiful Michigan. 👍😎🇨🇦🌊🐾🌸
I'm so happy you and your furbaby found a welcoming place to spend some time. You make beautiful wholesome enjoyable videos

Beautiful places. Glad Joey got to enjoy the beach. ❤
Good morning from Northeast Wisconsin! Cheers! ☕️ it's pleasant watching your videos...
Tawas is one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan. It's a bonus that there are a few different dog friendly beaches
Tawas looks like a nice town and so happy it was dog friendly for your little Joey!! Your darker hair and mascara look stunning on you :-). I'm happy to see you back on the road and am enjoying your continued adventures !

The sunrise side of the state (east coast) is very dog friendly. From Mackinaw City to Oscoda, less crowded and less expensive too.
Another great video ! ❤ Thank you !!

@@MyBasicJourney yes it is! Have you heard of the cooling pads for dogs? I think you can get them from Petsmart or any kind of animal store.
Glad you and Joey are having a good time.
The search for Dog Beach was successful. It's beautiful there.
Especially loved the water over the big rocks slowmo at the end
Google said Tawas correctly lol and it’s Michigander 😊 You should go up to Glen Arbor, Traverse City, and Petosky. It’s beautiful up there!
As a Michigander, good suggestions for our amazing state!

You are awesome you’re about the only one that I watch on TH-cam now with Van life or car life because you’re so informative. Thank you so so much for being so informative.
I enjoyed your video today. Im glad you were able to at least get one sunny beach day in that area. Hugs to you and Joey from NC
That sign doesn't look official. I'd report that to the website. Official signs wouldn't be handwritten.
Tawas is beautifull. Got married and lived there many years ago.

I did drive right through Standish! 🩷
I get that about finishing a great book. 😂 Life is so much better when you’re in the middle of a good book.
I grew up in Midland which is 15 miles from there. Don’t forget to look for agates and Petosky stones up north!
Good morning from Ohio. ❤😊
That park is beautiful
Hey from Michigan❤ Gonna have to check out that beach ur at in Tawas one of these days.🤔🤔🤔
Awe Chantel! I feel like that wasn’t an official no dog sign. 😢❤
I just started Fourth Wing after you mentioned it... OMG so good!!!
Counting down until January for the new book in the series to be released!! 📚🤓
I wish I could have been on the road to come and meet you. I have been over there, and it is beautiful. I live in mid Michigan and am going to go camping in pinckney next week. I love watching your basic journey.
A lot of the Walmart stores around here don’t allow over night parking.
I'm not sure which direction you're going, but the up of Michigan is much cooler than lower Michigan also if you're going through and going back down towards Arizona are you going through Wisconsin Wisconsin has lots of lakes and beaches that allow dogs!

I was just wondering how many miles do you have on your minivan right now it seems to have been a very reliable vehicle for you
FYI You guys are videos I still watch.....some I lost interest, but still enjoy you and Joey!!!
So happy you've found a place you and Joey can enjoy! Did he finally get into the lake??

What a great place to spend the night, how do you find great spots like that
I would go on the beach anyway. That did not look like a real sign
Stay in Michigan long enough and you will want to stay❤.
Hey Chantel any plans to head up to Canada?
Unfortunately, I don't have a passport so it won't be this year. Eventually, though!
Old school Michiganders call themselves Michiganders, and new school Michiganians use some other silly word to describe themselves :P

That one is 5 stars, across the street from Lake Huron.
