The Sure MV7 was made for vocal speech, and probably will do decent for music vocals. But bottom-line is that it's made to pick up things in close proximity so that you don't hear background noises. What's nice about the Tula, is that if you bring down the sensitivity and use a pop-filter, it will take some pretty nice vocal takes, or is also good for pod-casting, spoken-word, etc. You can think of the Tula Mic as sort of stream-lined, minimalistic Zoom hand-held recorder. It has not interface, and no options like built-in compressor, or file-type choices, but in a way, it's simplicity it's what is so inspiring. After a while you ENJOY the muscle-memory of what button does what. The hands-on feeling is intimate. The look is cool. I just bought a second one! My permanent pocket-mic.
with noise cancelation on tho I can clearly hear the furnace hum while not as bad it is delayed and accompanying the voice, whenever the voice happens I can hear it tho lower level
Sounds like the Tula is using a noise gate rather than noise cancellation as you can hear the furnace when you speak but not when you’re silent. Also the shure is supposed to be used closer to your mouth.
*Also, if you sit far or close, does it make a big difference in quality of sound? If I sit too close, will it be too loud - or if i sit too far away will it be too low? thanks!
Sitting closer is good - for all mics most of the time. And you can set the levels based on your voice volume. And I always level the audio later and remove noise. I use auphonic which is paid but cheap and versatile. I’m not an affiliate just love the tool.
I think only if you’re out in the field. I recorded a podcast and video that’s a touch windy. Look in my latest videos and there’s one where I’m outside.
Blake, sorry on the delay. I’m not sure! I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. If you’re able to send them an email and let them know what happened that can give you the right info. Sorry for the issue!

Which mic did you use for the initial voiceover when talking about the Tula mic?
Tula definitely sounded better and it's surprising. And your video is not the first comparison that has proven this. Thanks!
Super helpful, thank you.
The tula cancels the background noise when you're not talking but I can hear the background noise when you talk.
Exactly…I think the background noise is quieter when I talk with Noise Cancellation on, but you can detect it.
Loved the tunes.
Thanks Adrian!
Do you need a windscreen for this? thanks!

Great review - thanks for putting this together. Your affiliate link isn't giving me the 10% off you referenced... am I doing something wrong?

I clicked your affiliate link but there wasn't a 10% discount.
