Love this review and please more reviews of 3rd party lenses! I only buy 3rd party because of the cost savings and little sacrifice in most cases for image quality.
Finally a review on one of the bigger channels. Don't know why they've hidden it so much :D I don't mind the lack of buttons, it's half the price of the GM, a light, small 1.4 35mm with weather sealing that the f1.8 and f2 versions from Sony (no gasket) and Sigma (no seals except for the gasket) don't even have in the same price class. That is a big advantage. I was out today in heavy snow for hours with my Tamron 28-75 G2, it got wet several times for minutes and I wasn't even concerned because I know I can trust Tamron's sealing. With a lot of these more affordable options by Sony and Sigma, that just isn't the case. Even the G/GM lineup has very thin rubber gaskets on the mount. I wish Tamron would finally port their SP 35/1.4 to Sony E-Mount. Negative for the lens: MFD isn't great. At least 22-25 would have been nice.
The manual samyang/rokinon 50mm f/1.2 is one of my favorite lenses on Fuji, it's really sharp wide open, has very smooth + non-distracting out of focus area look, and it's really cheap used... I would say it's loca situation is similar to this one but for me it's super worth it for how good it is otherwise for the money.
"Linear stepping motor", well I give up trying to understand the differences, what matters is how accurate, fast and silent it is and as per your report it seems pretty decent on this lens.
linear stepper move on a straight guide rail and don't have a gearbox. normal stepper motor rotate and need gears to move the lens. they both use magnets

I feel your pain on the 35 mm, I feel that way with a 50 mm. But I am still using the original Sam Yang 35 mm F1 .4 and I am completely content with it. I am really interested in the auto focus anamorphic lenses and zoom anamorphic lenses for both photos and video. I want to start offering something that has a different look to it, more movie like for our photo and video work.
I agree; I likewise am not a fan of the 35mm lens focal length, but invariably land up with one in my photographic kit. I much prefer 18/28/40-45(pancake) & 70-75mm primes. As an "L" mount Lumix's/Leica SL user I'm not particularly well catered for in these focal lengths. At 28mm there is always the Leica primes (if I could afford them!), or alternatively the Sigma 28mm F/1.4 art lens which is now getting rather long in the tooth & is an adaption of an older DSLR design. Also its weight is an issue ...what was it you were saying about aching wrists?

Nice video, very moody music, and I can definitely relate to how slightly unnatural it feels to stay out in conditions like those. I thought the bokeh looked rather nice and I didn't see a lot of loca in the jewelry loca shot (would be nice if it were available in the linked text review). It does not seem very sharp wo though. It is several hundred grams lighter than the Sigma art 1.4 dn and while that lens feels good in the hand, like all Sigma Art lenses, it also feels like a beast in the hand compared to the GM. I used to think 35mm was the ultimate focal length..I still do, in terms of general usability. 50mm shots almost always looked a bit awkward, constrained..but I've come to appreciate working with those constraints.
