    I know this is how you provide for your family. Might i say you are one exceptional gifted person. You think everything out even as you go to modify your things as well as others. You don't show the whole process which i can understand. I haven't seen a bad video yet, thank you. Have enjoyed them all and i have many more to watch yet.

      Thanks Jake. Oh yes I'll agree with thinking things out. Down to the smallest detail lol. I don't show the full process a lot of times due to trying to protect the viewer from injuring themselves and also trying to keep the video shorter. We do our best to produce a good quality video and we're also researching other ways to make them even better. Thanks for your kind words and for watching.

    Thanks so much for this old video and because I watched it I didn't want to see a happy face bucket on my brand new 2020 BX 1880 so unlike 2015 when you made your own cutting edge Kubota now sells them off the shelf plus the bucket comes with the holes pre drilled already. I dropped mine off because of a hydraulic leak and had them mount the cutting edge plus a leveling kit as well. Thanks again

    I do not expect anything but the best from you Paul. I do not know anyone in my area that dose the type of work you do. They all are into one thing and that makes it hard when you need several things done at one time. I end up taking things here and there. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us. Blessings Shane.

    Thanks Paul for the very informative video. I had bought bolt on hooks but not the ones that have a riser welded on to get them over the lip on my B2601. Now after watching your video I will mount them inside the bucket. I’m amazed on your knowledge by using heavy equipment and feel lucky to see how you do it. Thanks for showing us how to do it!

    • @7863348
      @7863348  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne putting the hooks inside the bucket is the safest way to do it. I do these videos to try and educate people and if they prevent injury or worst then the time it took to do the video was well worth it.
      Thanks for your kind comments. Thanks for watching. Happy Tractoring 👍

    I Work on the west coast in mining and heavy construction as a welder and will confirm hooks inside is the safest location. You should never be straight in line with your pull without armour, when chains break they can toss links with enough force to seriously hurt you. Love your videos you are an excellent roll model in both my work ethic and in my marriage you and Kathy rock keep up the great work.

    • @7863348
      @7863348  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ecko996 I got into the small tractor world back in 2008. I could never understand why anyone would put a hook on the back of a bucket yet everyone does it. To me it's just wrong. It's easy to see you've been around the big stuff because you know why the hook is inside. It's a bad feeling seeing a cable snap and head towards the cab. It's happened to me and I was happy to be behind that bucket.
      Thank you for your kind words. Really nice knowing you've been watching our videos. Keep well over there and have a great weekend.

    Thanks Paul .... I am having the "Smiling" bucket after moving the 108 plus inches of snow in the Boston area. But thank the powers that be that I was able to purchase the BX for winter 2014/15. I mentioned in a previous post that I was wondering if I'd get a chance to move snow ... OMG did I move snow! I'll work on finding the blade and replace it as soon as I can ... and yes I'll invest in some industrial drills ... and out the one from Harbor Fright to drill holes in wood. Again thanks for the Bucket Mod .. as always good information to keep my BX in great shape!

    I have a cutting edge, only bad thing is that its not reversible. I wish I had one, but for me, it should last a long time. I've also added some golf cart mirrors on loader arms like yours. I used 4 magnets I bought at Harbor Fright. They hold pretty good. I plan on getting a right side rops bracket from you once I get some more money saved up. I found the perfect toolboxes at HF. I have been accused of modding too much. All I can say is I learned from the best and not for sure if you can have too many, though. They make life easier when using these tiny tractors.

    It's nice to have a cutting edge on a bucket. Saves the life of the bucket when it's scraping against things and makes a nicer edge for back dragging like you said.

LOL BTW ,I DO NOT miss repairing HD equipment , last one I fixed was a engine in loader in a sand pit , you fix it where it broke , and the reason it broke was a buster heater hose . They keep using the machine until the engine overheated and seized !!!!! EXPENSIVE FIX ! all the best , be safe , be well you guys , bob k

    Thank you once again in providing your advice on this series of topics. I'm about to install the hooks on my BX bucket, and wondered why you placed yours on the inside. As well, the primary topic being the cutting edge - well, I guess that'll be my next to-do on my MacHine.
    I was going to install/fabricate a tooth bar on my B3030 a couple of years ago, and never got it done - still have the teeth, but no bar yet. Very much looking forward to that fabrication and install onto your cutting bar/bucket. Always appreciated.

      Bryan Walker Thanks Bryan. I've seen so many hooks installed on the back side of buckets and could never figure out why they mount them there but that just might be me and I vould gave it figured all, wrong. As I said, the cutting end brings so many added benefits to the machine it makes it the number one mod. I'll be doing a follow up mod on the spill guard and show the hooks up close in the next video. Thanks for watching my friend.

    In my view, this is a very informative video, Paul. I could not help but notice that the mid to the rear portion of the underside of the bucket was discernibly wearing. Perhaps it might be wise to attach three narrow strips of hardened steel, running from the rear edge of the front cutting edge to the rear edge of the bucket---so as to alleviate any unwanted, undue wear. I enjoy your videos immensely and, without any reservation, I feel it fitting to mention that you are the type of individual that is few and far between of having desirably varied abilities and attainments.

      Thank you Manuel. The bottom of the bucket looks that way but in reality it's only the paint wearing off. In the future I'll be adding a new designed 4 into 1 bucket I'm thinking about building for the machine. Thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated.

    Well it's November 2020 and I just took delivery of a brand new BX 1880 with a loader and I noticed my bucket already has predrilled holes so I'm assuming that in the 5 years since this video was made Kubota has designed a cutting edge for it. I will have to check with my dealer to be sure as I don't want a happy bucket. I also have the spill guard already installed and I do like your hook placement much better. Thanks

    Hi Paul and Kathy! So Paul, you are going to show the mod of the tooth bar right? Not that I need one but I'd like to see what you come up with. I just got a BXpanded tooth bar for mine Monday night. Then Wednesday morning I had it my neighbor call and asked if my tractor would dig a hole deep enough to bury his miniature donkey that had died during the night. I hadn't put the bar on my bucket yet so I told him to give me 45 minutes and I'd be there. So I put the bar on and went to dig the hole. I'll tell you, the tooth bar worked great. Digging in hard packed soil with packed clay turns out to be really hard ground. I dug down around 4 feet. They told me they couldn't see the hood of the tractor when I was in the hole digging. I had got the tooth bar at just the right time. Everything worked out just right, Got to test the bar and seeing as I had never dug a hole that deep it was a good test. Good test for the 1026R too. I had dug a hole for our dog without the bar but it was softer dirt and I didn't go but about 3 feet down. So I'm curious what you come up with. Have a great weekend and God Bless. Levi~~

    Kioti has a 48" bolt on reversible cutting edge now. It's actually 49" long and you will still have to drill holes in the BX25D bucket. It's about $240 CDN. The 2017 BX23S has a predrilled bucket so it's likely Kubota will have their own bolt on cutting edge.

      #1, is your bucket floppy on your Bx where the Hydralic cylinder attaches to your bucket and where the other end attches to the cross beam on the Loader, mine got really floppy and my dealer tells me this is completly Normal, it seems pretty floppy to me though where the cylinder is pinned on both ends, lots of play.
      Question #2, did you ever make a tooth bar that will fit over your cutting edge that you added to the bucket?, thank-you for the input

    Your bucket and fuel filter mods are probably the best ones you've done to improve the longevity (there's a big word, like, "marmalade" lol) of the BX25D. Speaking of your fuel filter mod, have you had to change the cartridge yet? Oh, and if you could put together a video of your spill guard that would be awesome!

    For those interested... I took Paul's TL2143 part number to my local (US, California) Kubota dealer and their crossover part was a TL2157 which measures 56-5/8" overall with 8 holes (just under $200). Paul didn't go into great detail on the cut off sizes but with this blade I'll have to shift the blade one hole off center... So I'll have to cut about 1/2" off one end and about 8" off the other. That leaves seven bolts holding the blade on, one will be centered and the outer holes will be about an inch inside the bucket sides. Should work fine...

    • @7863348
      @7863348  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ramosel I didn't go into great detail! Geez I told what I could remember from two years ago and spent 2.5 hours doing the video. That being said what your saying isn't adding up but if what your doing is making the cutting edge reversible then it will work. Mine can turn around and the bolts will fit exactly into the bolt holes. Measure twice, cut once.

    • @ramosel
      @ramosel 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Short Kathy needs to take you to dinner... you need a break. I wasn't complaining, You did a great job of letting us know what to do. I'm following your lead. Centering one hole and centering the blade so it can be reversed. But with 8 holes you don't have "A" center hole. You have 2 center holes. I have to lose one so I have an odd number so you can get a center hole in the center of the bucket. I'll measure it 10 times and drill and bolt it before I ever cut anything off. Thanks for your help Paul. Call me if I need to clear up any more of my mud.

    I just purchased a brand new BX25D for my brother and all of the bucket outer edges are peeling or have peeled. All the small edges on the boom arms and across the inside leading edge of the bucket. I've watched all of your videos, and you have a great deal of talent where fabrication is concerned. It figures you're also musically inclined. Is there a specific 'Kubota' paint I should use to redo these areas? I suppose I should invest in some welding equipment if I want to apply some of the things you've expertly illustrated. Admittedly, it will take me considerable time but time is all we've got and its never too late. Thanks!

    • @7863348
      @7863348  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim you should ask your selling dealer to repaint those areas. That's what warranties are for. As for the paint well I like to buy the spray cans of Kubota Orange from the Kubota dealer but ?Home Hardware has Kubota Orange as well for far less money than the dealers price.
      Talent! What talent? This is just what I do. Nothing more, nothing less. Happy to hear you watched a few of our videos. As for welding. If I can do it, you can too. Keep well

      The hooks are located like that so that when the chain is hooked on them and the bucket is raised the chain can't fall out of the hooks plus when the bucket is up and your pulling on the chain if the chain lets go the position of the bucket will protect you from the chain. I gave a demo of that in one of my videos. Thanks for watching our channel.

    Paul. Just viewed the BX25 bucket edge video. Have a smiling BX 25. Saw in the comments a reply from someone who was going to install new edge to smiling bucket. Is that going to fully straighten it, or will it simply end up with gaps at the right and left side end that will need to be shimmed between the bucket and the blade?

    • @7863348
      @7863348  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the amount of smiley the bucket has. If it’s extreme then my advice would be to cut the bottom out of the bucket, replace with new steel then install the cutting edge. That’s the right way to do it. Happy Holidays.

      Sorry Mike. We get ad average of 150 plus questions and comments a day and there's no way possible for me to keep up with that many. I'm actually considering closing the comment section of our video's or quitting TH-cam altogether so sorry for missing yours. Nope. I haven't made a tooth bar for the BX BUT I did for the 5740. If I didn't have the 5740 I would have made a tooth bar for the BX. I'm not sure what you mean by "Bucket flop" but all the pins and bushings on our BX are tight so there should be any bucket flop[.

      @7863348  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, ok. Yup that's normal. It's caused by the geometry of the tilt cylinder. It's really because there's only one cylinder and that seems to be the only way they could get it to work. It shouldn't pose a problem. I never really notice it myself.

    Hi Paul,
    Great video.
    I just wondered whether the bottom of the bucket would feel easier to use if it was extended by about 15/20 cm and the sides slightly curves to match it. You could put rubbing strakes on the bottom to add strength, and I think this would give a more useful, perhaps ‘rock-esq’ type of bucket, still able to use your sharpened front edge and teeth?
    Take care and as usual a really professional looking video. Thank you. … This is of course only a suggestion and it is not necessary to reply.

      When working or modifying the buckets on these sub-compact tractors weight is a major concern in the design and outcome of the mod. The more weight you add the less you'll be able to lift. Finding that happy medium is the tough part.

    The cutting edge is a piece of grader blade. It is a specialty steel especially when being rolled out in a steel mill. It is a hard job to maintain the bevel edge on the edges of the blade. If you look at the plowing edge of a road grader you will see one mounted on the edge of the blade. As Paul says the blade is double edged and it can be 6 inch, 7 inch, and 8 inch's wide and come with a double edge or sometimes it would have a single edge on one side and a rounded edge on the other which makes it non reversible.
