- How do you make a narcissist respect you?
You should be aware of one simple fact - narcissists don’t really respect anyone, especially in a functional sense. They can have respect for someone if it is potentially beneficial for them, but it is difficult to expect honest and authentic respect from someone who is neither honest nor authentic. What a narcissist can do is respect a person’s power, privilege, money, physical appearance, prestigious occupation, social status, unavailability - in other words, they can “respect” everything they want for themselves, except the person who possesses those things.
Even that “respect” for superficialities other people possess is laced with envy, which is also one of the core characteristics of the narcissistic personality. In some instances, it is important that you make a narcissist “respect” you, because you might work with them, have children with them, or something similar, so you are unable to just walk away. There is still no magical cure for narcissism, so employing different strategies to make them at least pretend to respect you might sometimes be necessary.

@Pluviophile Drops These people are actually cunning manipulative selfish abusive greedy people with such an overwhelming sense of entitlements that they will do anything to get it regardless of the cost to anyone. They cheat lie steal abuse bully and generally mistreat people and manipulate others to make you into the bad person. The reason they do this is to provide supply to their master to prove to them that they are worthy of their so called love. Usually a parent older sibling or friend.
Yet the same people are the ones to sow strife and discord in their students apprentices lives to give them a sense of achievement to show off to their friends how clever and successful they are while all the time destroying the lives of their student protoge and their partner. Yeah, but what if, like the video says, you happen to work with them or you're in an environment you can't really walk away. It's useful to know a few tips in order to keep things smooth and protect yourself. This isn't about respect per se, it's about protecting yourself

1. Cultivate your self esteem
2. Let the narcissist know that u can easily leave n replace them
3. Don't engage with them on a deeper level, engage only when they r being nice to u.
4. Grey rock technique...go no contact r treat them lk they don't exist
5. Calmly end the conversation if its gng no where
6. Present urself as a high value person
7. Don't walk on eggshells around them...if there is danger of physical violence, call for help 1st
8. Set clear boundaries
9. Make them work hard to earn their presence around u
10. Play hard to get

It is a waste of time trying to make a narcissist respect you. A person is only supply, a game, to use, abuse and manipulate is the way the narcissist think. Their temporary fake kindness is not worth putting yourself through their manipulation, games and abuse. They will hurt you worse than before. Go no contact.

I married to a narcissist who made my life hell , after almost 2 years I have divorced, I have a son of 9 months old n he took my son with him , he constantly betrayed me n I was a fool who thought he will change with the passage of time , he got married again right after the 2nd day of divorce n was having an affair with that girl n I was unawared of all this shit ! He drained everything out of my leaving me behind with question why I was not enough for him? I did everything to make him happy I always sacrificed my self respect infront of him n I just regret now y i did so much for him who was not worth of even my hate !
“Stubborn” that is a nice way to enable narcissistic behavior and allow verbal and emotional abuse. Enablers be careful of the words like stubborn to justify unacceptable abusive invalidating and manipulative behavior. Different words but they all cause the same damage on their victims. I believe there is no solution. I don’t want a relationship where I have to act one way(not who I am, or want to be)to get respect from a person. Beware of the unexpected and overwhelming amounts of very intense praise, compliments and too much affection shown by an otherwise ‘new’ friend’ …. They will eventually rip out your heart and possibly also drag your reputation down in front of others, should you expose them as narcissists, once you’ve realised the truth. It’s Hell .

My most draining experience in the workplace has been with a narcissist. I watch these videos in hope to handle myself in the most emotionally intelligent manner in case I run into someone like that again.
Their respect is just not respect. Frankly I’m on some level terrified of their ‘respect’. They will ‘respect’ you when they envy you.. and then their jealousy monster will come out to make you miserable. They’ll try to take and steal everything you earned not so they can have it but so they can just sadistically smirk at your misery because how dare you outdo them or have something they can’t possess.
I had an incident with in law were they kicked my wifes dog and i confronted them. They claimed its there hkuse and can come outside anytime he wants. I said yea but not kick dog. He tried and claim the house again and i was like no thats animal abuse and against the law. He got quite and had the deer in the head lights look. He was like i can come out whenever he wants. I was like whatever and walked away. He mumbled something andvi raced to the door and my momentum pushed me forward and feel on him. We were going to fight when wife broke it up. He tried to play the victim and told him dont come near by dogs. He gave the whole family the silent treatment for 4 months.

Thank you, it's been almost 2 years since I left from my ex-Nar. This video is exactly how he is. A week ago, he called, when I said hello, he hung up on me and didn't call back. I think he was testing to see if I still had his number, or hadn't blocked him. Well, I have blocked and deleted his number. Life is too precious to let anyone control you and make you miserable.

Here’s the problem as I see it . The narcissist knows your vulnerabilities , sensitivities , and emotional weaknesses because if he / she lives with you , your guard is usually not up most of the time. Slowly she begins to manipulate your weaknesses to get her way . After a while you begin to think that being abused is a most normal state. You begin to think that your job on earth is to serve the needs of others and you feel guilty for looking after your own needs. When you realize that you have been conned , the narcissist makes you think it’s your own fault….. you did all those things on your own … I had little to do with your choices she reasons. To leave a narcissist requires a great deal of introspection and wrenching soul searching . But it can be done . I have lived with one for 35 years . Yes that’s right ! and I have finally summoned the courage to file for divorce. Soon I will be free. You have one life and it belongs to you . Don’t let the manipulator steal your most precious possession .

For me number one worked in reverse. I had high self esteem when we met, it was torn down over time. Trying to reverse the damage done and find my value again. No matter what I've done, said, or didn't do or say, it was never enough. We don't speak often now, and its normally only when he wants something. I steer it back to our son and leave it there, cutting down on the bull shit.
Please do not give him more than he can handle. No one needs to deal with this stuff

I like 👍🏾 the video especially the last part on “how much their respect ✊🏿 is worth to you?” These people are trash 🗑. I’ve dealt with narcissist and these people are evil 👿 to me. I believe they are little demons walking on earth 🌍. My goal is to not engage with them or set very strict boundaries around them.

Yeah, a narc's "respect" isnt even worth the effort, unless you're stuck in a situation like being the child of a narc - in which case you leave when 18 or pursue EMANCIPATION earlier. If you're the spouse of a narc and have kids, yes its difficult, but you CAN leave and the relationship will likely end in a bad way anyway -- better it ends on YOUR terms and timing.
I pity people who have children and stuck with a thing like this in their lives. All I can say is enhance the positives and eliminate the negatives. Gradually, little by little, quietly and anonymously build up your new little kingdom.

Ever hear of room-mates? I had a similar situation and there was also a deep recession when I was 18. Except I was kicked out of the house, blamed for something that never even happened.
I stayed on a friend's sofa at first (for several weeks)... meanwhile ran ads in newspapers for freelance work -- painting and wallpaper, yard work, odd jobs, later worked at a variety store stocking shelves, worked as a gopher in construction, etc. Eventually took a commission-only sales job -- turned out out i was good at it and made money to get my own place. The world isnt going to come knocking on your door kiddo. You got to be a go-getter.
Just be careful. Make good decisions and don't tell anyone, except someone who will NOT tell the narc.

I now realize that there are more narcissist in my life than I thought. A relative that never lets me talk about why I called in the first place, then turns it around to them. Thinks the details of their day is more important than why I may be upset about mine…I called first….wow.

You dont deal with a narcissist. Simple as that. All of these tactics in video is useless as it underestimate people who practice manipulation tactics since they are young, and without any empathy, these manipulation tactics is much more lethal, especially on people who have more empathy.

My mother is like this. She seeks attention to go on about herself. When I need to say something she’s busy on Facebook facing me with her back. I literally asked her “did your mother show her back to you when you tried to make a conversation with her?” It was like a slap on the face for her. So if a narcissist is acting disrespectful the best thing to do is sharply point it out at that moment. Trust me they’ll be embarrassed. Be sarcastic. If they turn up with a phone when you try to talk just say “oh mr/miss celebrity do I need to make an appointment to talk to you?” Say something to slam their ego because they have respect for nobody. Even the ones that don’t know you “respect” you in a manner that ain’t real, it’s more for a show to get your attention. They don’t even respect themselves, how can you expect respect from someone who doesn’t respect themselves? Honestly don’t even try.

This is true Narcissist are hesitate or afraid to attack people with high self-esteem, they rather like to attacl people with low-self esteem because they want to control that people and it feels good to them they enjoy people seeing slowly loses their self-esteem, I observed this coz Narcissism is present in our family dynamics and i can easily spot them in my workplace... The most important to do is not to loss your self-esteem...
Walk away from a narcissist. You don't want to try and win their respect because it will be fake.
The way to get along with a narcissist , is to not lean on that person, be independent, dont be clingy, have your own money, dont pester that person, for things U have to take care of , and don't whine about your problems

These are All really good except the one where I need to speak an entire sentence about how I’m not gonna accept all those things… if he doesn’t like what I’m saying he will speak over me loudly to yelling until he silenced me completely but I have recently been learning grey rock and this worked instantly and was so satisfying!!! Not trying to stay just trying to get through each day as I desperately search for a way out…

Living in constant competition. Poor narcissists, they are in for a lot of pain.
1. Cultivate your self-esteem
2. Let the narc know that you can easily leave and replace them. Create opportunities for you
3. Don’t engage with them in a deeper level. Limit your emotions and your available time with them. Limited engagement
4. The grey rock technique. Remove yourself if you are gaslighted
5. If you are not listened to, calmly end the conversation
6. Present yourself as a higher status person. The respect won’t last and they may envy you
7. Don’t walk on eggshells. Make disclaimers. They resent people that walk on eggshells around them
8. Set clear boundaries so they won’t control or manipulate you
9. Make the work hard to be in your presence. Make them see you have plenty of supply
10. Play hard to get. They are interested in people they don’t have or can’t have
Cut the relationship at any cost...otherwise u will get poisened.

I’ve dealt with this behavior @ home fo too long. Breaking patterns is difficult when so close from home but it’s not impossible.

Makes sense for the guys who fall for the worst people and fall out of love with people they feel are "too nice".
Makes sense why my boyfriend whom I'm trying to get rid of. Seemed to admire me because I checked out when he went on his moments of grandiosity. He'd literally ask me to pay attention to what he was saying. And when he spoke no sense and seemed to want to drive a conversation to his own direction I'd just stop engaging or walked away. Had no times for it. Still do not. I just ignored him. Got no reaction from me with his lies and tricks. Even when he told an obvious lie I'd just say ok and go with the flow. Maybe he found me exciting because I have my own tendencies of being emotionally unavailable to people that feel wrong to me. He felt wrong.
They're not going to like you they're never really going to respect you but they can act like they respect you they won't have a choice when you're done discarding them like a bag of trash it's the only way to get over on them they will be envious and feel defeated more than anything

Wow! Interesting stuff. I'm 73 and I think I must have encountered thousands of narcissists through the years. Maybe I'm one myself sometimes. All I've learned is that it's best to show others that I'm willing and able to fight back if necessary.

I watched thousands of videos to get rid of a shitty human being - finally I stopped talking chatting engaging and texting - things went better - I am happy person now and I also started engaging myself with other people - world is full of good people too - just because of one single person that’s not the end of the world ----
This is excellent advice for anyone in a close relationship with a narcissist.
I'm living with a narcissist, it's honestly very draining. It's my own blood and i cannot escape since I'm just 14 and they are my own sibling, it's been horrible. I constantly feel disrespected even when I've completely abandoned them. Also they're very abusive (physical abuse) I recently spoke up about the abuse and made clear that they have no right to physically abuse me Or any other people and this made them lose their mind but in the end they had to stop it cause they knew it'll no longer be tolerated by me. But I'm sure they still can get physical any time and I know I'm not safe, yea like I'm walking on eggshells, I've been walking on eggshells throughout my whole life. So I try my very best to completely abandon them but we've to cross paths since we live in the same house, it's really horrific.

What if you realize that you've been targeted for systemic narcissism for decades by your own family (almost whole) and they've been recruiting your so called friends the whole time? I've been cutting everyone out of my life since realizing that they only want to be in my energy to sabotage me while at the same time turning to me for support cause they know I'm the most supportive person they know
That's what happened with me and I ended up marrying a malignant narcissist who they worked with to continue their game .... I managed to gain strength through prayer and see right through them. They are all starting to 'respect' me a little
This is EXACTLY how I'm treated by my family. I've ended contact w all of them and my adult kids it's brutally painful having no contact W my kids them and my gkids were everything to me . I am finally putting me first healing me not being a doormat rescuer fixer or enabler either ...I have Peace and I'm moving fwd that and pray is all I can do
